I just read that Rick Santorum has proposed banning hard core porn. If you want a news source, google it. So why is he doing this? It is my guess that he is trying to make brownie points with the religious right, but will it work? After all, "W" said he would ride the religious right all the way into the White House, and he did. However, I don't think that the religious right has as much power in the GOP as they once did, but we shall see. As for the issue of hard core porn, I have always wondered why hard core porn is legal yet prostitution is illegal. Can anyone splain this to me? That aside, I dare say that even if you were to prove that porn is harmful to any given society, banning it would be near impossible. It would be akin to the futility of prohibition. The demand and addiction to it is just too great to be practicle to prohibit it. Also, I don't think Santorum is really serious about banning it. I think he is merely a desperate candidate who is now willing to say desperate things because Romney is beating him to a bloody pulp. Just think of it as a risk/reward ratio. The greater the risk the greater the potential reward, as well as devestation.

I don't think he's looking for brownie points. While I disagree with a good portion of what he believes, there's no doubt that he's the real deal. He has convictions and sticks to them. I don't support a lot of them, but I give him credit by sticking to his guns and doing what he believes is right
Actually I believe you have it backwards. According to federal law prostitution is not illegal see Nevada. State have outlawed prostitution it isn't a federal issue. Porn is against federal and I believe most state laws. The issue is how it is interpreted as obscenity if ruled obscene it would be illegal. The federal govt. has no jurisdiction outside this country so international porn is safe. I am no lawyer so you might want to double check. Yet I am fairly certain I am correct.
This will kill his campaign. Historically any candidate who tries to make a "war" on porn, gets the axe. Porn is a main stay in the US these days. People like their adult material and they aren't going to take kindly to someone trying to take it away.
I am a Independent with libertarian values. I happen to be opposed to ideas like expressed above. Abolishing both parties would be a start but not going to happen. So I hope Santorum isn't the nominee not because of this issue, just because he can not win.
