Today the committee will choose the 100 to draft the new constitution. So far 1000 nominees. Out of that 1000 the committee will choose 100 to draw the new constitution. Once it is drawn it will go to referendum by the people. The 1000 names include people from all levels. Judges, scientists, women, Coptic Christians, youth activists, MP's from various minor parties and independants, lawyers, International experts, human right activists, even Egypts most famous footballer who has a huge respect and following, not only for football but is better known even for his moral lifestyle and good character Abu Treika is on the list. People demanded all walks of life be included and it seems they are in the 1000.
yes inshallah it will very little needs changing in fact of the old constitution just needs implementation like everything else
the last one was drawn up by International experts on constitution why throw it out? It only needs a few changes
Mubarak lived under the old one, Mubarak isn't the image you need right now if you're trying to get a new country together.
Main points to change 1. Times and term of president. Only 2 terms and 4 or 5 year terms. 2. Must elect a Vice President within 30 days. Also that Parliament NOT president decides to fire Vice President. 3. Emergency Law and Military trials for civilians. 4. Parliamentary or presidential or semi system to be adopted. Before all power was in hand of President. That needs to change. That is dictatorship. Final say should be 'elected' parliament.
to quote a famous misquoted quote "een Mubarak rezhim-e ishghalgar e Masr bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad" The Mubarak regime occupying Egypt must be wiped from the page of time
The real issue in all your Muslim kingdoms is not about having a constitution and/or its wording but following the letter of the law in every respect. It's unfortunately not part of your corrupt culture and will require changing the mentality and the collective psyche of the entire people which will take generations. Changing a few words on a piece of paper will do absolutely nothing, the new constitution will be just as ignored as all the previous ones were.
Borat does have a point. If you read the existing constitutions of Egypt, Iran, Syria etc. you see that the intent of the documents have long been corrupted by the powers that be. By corrupted, I mean that the existing regimes are not upholding all manner of rights and freedoms outlined specifically in these documents. Another piece of paper is not going to significantly change things, if the people, the culture and the judiciary are not prepared to change as well.
The list of the 100 chosen members of the draft committee. 50 from Parliament with 20 substitutes and 50 from public figures including 20 substitutes. http://shorouknews.com/news/view.aspx?cdate=24032012&id=96ef7603-29bd-47a4-8a4e-772a125c32eb From reading the Parliament list the 50 chosen fairly I think represent the parliament by ratio. There are 6 women in the 100 and 4 of those are Coptic Christians. Noteable names from 'public figures list' include: Amr Hamzawy-activist, independant MP and outspoken critic of SCAF Late pope Shenoudas lawyer Doctor Ahmed Harara- activist who lost both eyes in separate clashes El Banna Professor of contitutional law El Arabi-famous industrialist Nadia Mustafa and Moatez al Fatah - professors of political science Abdel Shukr leftist from Taggamu party Mona Makrem Obeid-famous Coptic Christian liberal female Judge Marhim -Coptic Churches General Council Lt Shahin representing SCAF Sameh Ashoor -Head of Lawyers Syndicate Dr Abu El Ghar- liberal head of social democratic party and activist for university independance

Maria Dmitrienko won a gold medal for Kazakhstan on Thursday at the Arab Shooting Championships in Kuwait, but during the award ceremony the public address system broadcast the spoof anthem from the 2006 movie "Borat," which offended many Kazakhs by portraying the country as backward and degenerate. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ilyas Omarov told the ITAR-Tass news agency the incident "is, of course, a scandal and demands a thorough investigation, which we intend to conduct." ITAR-Tass quoted shooting team member Oksana Stavitskaya as saying that Asian Shooting Federation President Sheikh Salman al-Sabah had apologized to the team. "Sheikh Salman personally apologized to us. He recognized that the use of the music from the scandalous film in place of the anthem of Kazakhstan was completely a mistake of the organizers. He explained that the awards ceremony was conducted by a firm under contract," Stavitskaya said. The Kazakh news agency Tengri quoted team coach Anvar Yunusmetov as saying tournament organizers had downloaded various countries' national anthems from the Internet. An excerpt of the "Borat" anthem: "Kazakhstan, greatest country in the world. All other countries are run by little girls. Kazakhstan number one exporter of potassium. Other countries have inferior potassium. . . ." continued
The Libyan Constitution 1951-1969 guaranteed equal rights regardless of religion, ethnicity, tribal affiliation or economic status..
Things were pretty good in Libya back then.. They were making rapid progress in education.. and the Jewish community was thriving.. Then came Khadafi.
I am suggesting that my leaders have thousands of innocent blood on their hands and if they only followed the constitution it might have been avoided. I am suggesting that we should take the log out of our eyes before we tell others to remove the splinter from theirs.
A constitution is only as good as the people who uphold it. If Egypt had the opportunity for the same basic form of government that America and others do, I wouldn't have much hope that it'd do anything for them. Not saying that Egyptians are bad people, I just think that their problems run deeper than whatever form of government they have. Many Americans seem to be proving this statement a lot lately.
How true, how true... If Egypt so righteously opted for a constitution that will be erected by 100 people from all levels, I notice that no Jews were included because they were all thrown out of Egypt with their shirts on their backs. Constitution oh vain Egyptian constitution the first act of your preposterous meeting is to close the Israeli Embassy in Cairo and annul the Peace Treaty declaring it void by stating publicly that Israel is an enemy. Egyptian constitution everyone knows what it represents! The Sinai Peninsula should be returned to Israel as this was the price of the Peace Treaty!
