An elderly woman who suffered a fall was left lying on the floor at a care home for up to ten minutes because a senior nurse was praying, an inquest heard.
Abdul Bhutto, an agency nurse, told junior staff they would have to wait until he finished before he would attend to 87-year-old Dorothy Griffiths, who died nine days later.
Mrs Griffiths, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, was left on the floor while the Muslim nurse continued to pray on his mat.
Eventually he arrived and examined the pensioner before telling carers to put her back to bed. She was later found unresponsive and was taken to hospital.

Carer Zoe Shaw told the inquest: ‘It took between five and ten minutes because he was praying. A staff member told me we had to wait for him to finish.’

Two questions comes to my mind - firstly, muslims usually pray what? at least twice during the work shift... is the nurse being paid for the time he spent praying?

And the second - what would Jesus do - would he stop praying to help the ailed person?

Here he is , Dutch the Troll Honker .
Look at his comments . Only a Troll Honker could be so insensitive .
This is the Poster who mocked Muslims for taking off their shoes when entering a Holy Place and mocked Russians for asking guests to take off footwear when visiting .
This post and other frequent Racist posts from this young man show a very troubled mind .

As the right wingers on here say when talking about Christian care providers, you can't make them give care if it conflicts with their religion.

Wow that's sad. Hopefully there is a case that can be made against him so he can get some jail time.

I agree, it's a good comparison, I say the patient comes first, if you can't do your job, get a different job

I doubt it, no more so then someone that denies someone a morning after pill and then the person later dies giving birth or during an abortion, either of which could of been prevented if not for the employees religion... the current law is on his side in this case

Yep. You can't do the job, don't work the job.

The other week I read on a forum about a Christian woman who was fired because she refused to work on Sunday because she wanted to go to Church.

Christians on the forum were up in arms. However, when she was employed the job description was that working on Sundays was rotated throughout the entire staff to be fair on everyone. She thought her religion got her out of that. Her boss disagreed and fired her. She tried to sue and lost. Agree to do the job then you do the job.

if the employer knew of his condition, that he had to pray and could not take care of the patients during this time, the employer might be able to be held liable though

There was a case on here a while ago when some Christian refused to sell birth control pills to a woman because it was against their religion. The pills though weren't actually for birth control, they were for another problem. Birth control pills are used for a number of medical reasons, some which can be life threatening. It was one of these life threatening conditions that the woman needed the pills for. However, the right wingers on here defended the pharmacist refusing to sell them to her on religious grounds. What's the difference?

there is no difference, both are putting people at risk imo

can you imagine going to a pharmacist for heart pills and having to wait ten minuets while they finished praying

did not realize this was not in the USA, but either way paid of free health care I would want someone that actually watched over my loved one (even here at that age it may be free healthcare)

you would think this kinda thing would not need to be legislated, that common sense would prevail.., is sad

Unfortunate however, labeling all Muslims as un-caring religious fanatics is, of course, ludicrous. If we look further we see many such places where the elderly are 'warehoused' when they start becoming incontinent, forgetful or even confused. Wait...'they' are us....err....in the future. We better look a LOT closer at this stuff!

That Muslim should be fired for neglecting his patient and sued for malpractice. Maybe even stripped of his nursing license.

Are Muslims required to put praying at a certain time above the safety of others? That just doesn't seem likely to me. If not, this isn't about the guy's Muslim religion, making all of your comments about Christians and what not irrelevant.

If what I think is the case happens to be the case, we're just dealing with a backwards imbicile who should loose his license.

the Muslims i work with don't, but then again the most of the Christians I know have no issues with birth control either, I think some do these things to show others how "religious" they are, they do not realize that is not what people see, but in their minds it is what they think people will see

Thus, I'm led to believe that this isn't a religious issue.

I don't think it ever is, it's more of a personal issue they have, kinda like a addiction to religion

hard to find the exact words to describe them, it's a religious issue, but personal at same time, but not the religion itself

Anyone want to tackle my original question? Was the guy been paid for the time off to pray? In my estimation, 2 prayers per work shift would amount to at least 30 min... 1/2 hour... 1/16th of the shift...a day and a half per month... was he paid by the institution? And if yes, why? Why would not he pray on his own time?

Can you explain why while quoting my question you, instead of tackling it, go personal? :cowboy:

You got me; English is not my first or even second language, but I would not call it "extremely poor". Be a pal and do point out some of my mistakes please, so I can learn from the master? Thanks in advance

No obsession. I just happen to spend great deal of my time in various -stans - Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and a bunch of other Muslim countries, so I do have whatcha call "first hand experience", and do read everything concerning Islam daily and diligently. It affects my job performance,

Have I satisfied you curiosity?
