I think that rightwingers genuinely believe that 1-10% of the population is simply 10 times as intelligent and hard working as everyone else..and that nothing is wrong or unjust or secretive about this economic system and nothing about it is tipped into the favor of corporate titans; that we actually have a free market.

I don't know the "hearts" of politicians; I just know the policies they promote and pursue.

That speaks for why I vote the way I do (Democrat).

Why do Americans vote for Democrats?

Because they're not Republicans, obviously. Why do Republicans vote for two-headed Martians?

Democrats are the fun parent. Republicans are the strict parent. Democrats let you eat ice cream before dinner. Republicans make sure you get straight A's or you can't go to the party with your friends this weekend. It's easy for people to be drawn to the fun parent because the fun parent always says yes to everything, but in the end it's the strict parent that is helping you build the character that you need to become a strong, healthy, and successful adult. Everything the strict parent does is out of love. As you get older, you realize that. But when you're a kid, you just think they're mean.

You see yourself as a child with respect to those you vote for? (Sad.)

It was a metaphor. You'll understand when you're older, Johnny.

So be it. In any case, if we take a reasonable and realistic look at that which BOTH parties are comprised, we will see human beings with differing ideas and values. People are 'adult' enough by and large, to choose the candidates which suit them philosophically and morally; children don't choose their parents. And inevitably some kids end up with parents that suck. Some on the Right just go-along with everyone else like good little soldiers; they don't pick their politicians it seems... the party picks them and the go along with whatever.

Some Republicans are terrible and so are some Democrats. I happen to think that ANY politician not speaking and acting FOR the middle class, is surely not worthy of my vote (and they won't get it either). Meanwhile, I look at how many Republicans are out here playing greedy, control-freak and holier-than-thou "Christian". Those manipulators and moochers will not ever receive my vote.

I don't know how far you are into literature, but the Republicans, as parents, are Mrs Rochester - mad, potentially murderous and very scary.

I love people; but I do get mad at certain ideas they embrace.

Interesting metaphor, Unifier. I do not think parental characteristics properly describe the two major political parities. Both convince their constituents to vote for them because of highly manipulative rhetoric. Our political system is essentially is the incompetent leading the blind.

This metaphor would be easier to swallow if the republicans didn't also represent the parent that is gorging itself on ice cream, putting the kids to work and then pocketing all of their earnings.

I vote for the democrats because they're pro-America, pro-union, and pro-working class. They're also pro-wealthy, of course, but I don't have a problem with that since they aren't out to destroy the working class, the unions, and America in general the way the republicans are.

Agreed. Today's republican party has adopted the morals and ideology of Ayn Rand and Leo Strauss and trying to pass it off as an updated version of Frédéric Bastiat. What it really has become is a nasty form of Social Darwinist dogma where one people are used up, or no longer useful to them, then they should be expected to just crawl off and die. They no longer believe that we have any responsibility for each other, and that altruism is a weakness. Barry Goldwater is spinning in his grave over what the Republican party has become.

    Why do people vote Democrat?

Well, sometimes it's because they're dead and don't really know what's going on.

    Smetimes it's just for money.

Sometimes it's because they believe the scare tactics of the left. We've alreadh heard the nitiwts on the left saying the Rpublicans are bringing back Jim Crow laws and if Republicans can they'll do away with Medicare. There's always fools they buy the demagogues bull(*)(*)(*)(*).

Sometimes they're single issue voters and feel the Democrats meet that one issue adeuqately.

It's sad but I heard a woman in the last Presidential election saying that if Obama was elected he'd pay off her house mortgage, pay off her credit card, and put gas in her car for free. My neighbor said he simply wanted someone else to pay for his health insurance.

Really? I thought it was the Democrats who were trying to restrict what kids can eat in schools because most of it was unhealthy? I thought it was democrats in San Fransisco who wanted to ban Happy Meals cause they are bad for ya? I thought it was Democrats who want you to throw away your SUV and drive your solar powered lawn mower to work instead.

Oh yea, and in some communities if you don't recycle you are now actually breaking the law. Fun parent? Give me a friggin break.
