This thuggery probably has more to do with agri-monopolies and the stock market price of pork bellies than it does natural resource protection. This is just more evidence of corporate ownership of the US goverment and its employees/henchmen who jump at the command of their masters.

Pigs are easy to raise and therefore lots more people are getting into pork; especially small-farmers. You're not seeing this happen on gigantic hog farms are you? ...lol...That's because if a lot of small time pork farmers flood the market, BigPork cannot make as obscene profits as they used to if the market is flooded with good-tasting cheaper pork. The stuff they raise at big production farms often tastes like crap. Pigs more than any other farm animal take on the taste of the food they've eaten. Sometimes big production farms will feed them the most nasty "food" like fish scraps or even manure from other animals like cattle. Small farmers tend to feed their pork good quality local scrap produce and grains, so the meat is superior to big production farms.

Once again we have the ugly stepsisters conspiring against beautiful little Cinderella to keep her in the dungeon and out of the marketplace. How many times must we see this theme repeated before we figure out that the number one enemy of American small-time ingenuity and therefore the economy itself is a corporate monopoly [insert name and type of product here]?

So they just meet every morning and randomly pick some farm and go shoot the livestock for no reason? I read your link but it doesn't mention anything about what law this guy was violating. They seem to conveniently leave that part out.

And using Alex Jones as one of their sources is beyond bad. He is well known to be wrong on so many issues and to make stuff up in order to sell his products.

This whole issue stinks to high heaven.

    Coupla thoughts:

    1. What passes for science these days has become so politicized as to be unrecognizable. We need to get the government money out of science and politicized junk science out of government.

    2. This is an example of why I despise regulation. Silhouette has it right. Government regulations come down hard on new and small competitors and (whether deliberately or unwittingly) acts to protect entrenched competitors from competition. The EPA's New Source Review regs are this outrage writ large. If the regulators had shown up at a big pork producer, they would have been confronted by platoons of lawyers and prevented from taking action.

The big loser is the consumer.

Is there any reason to not attenuate government regulation?

Improperly contained hogs are a terrible danger to the rest of the ecosystem!

When they escape, they DESTROY land, wildlife, grazing, fencing, other farmers' crops and livestock, and even hurt people, both by direct attack and spreading human diseases.

Of course, none of these people care ONE BIT what damage their attempts at profits do to anyone else - they just want to raise hogs without the proper enclosures, reap the benefits, and make everyone else, including the taxpayers, have to pay the price for their stupidity, carelessness, and law-breaking!

I LOVE this cynical attempt to pluck at animal-lovers' heartstrings with the description of the "cute animals" whose throat they will be cutting in a few months!

Makes no never mind.It should be a right. The market has and always will
be the final arbiter. But I dare say most of the small farms are raising stock
for themself.Farmers, large and small need to ban together and fight this
with attorneys and then their own methods. This is literally taking away the
    right to earn a living.

Actually no... The european stock swine that has decimated Hawaii and every other American habitat is not a naturally occuring species. It is invasive and with the decimation of large predatory animals, they run uncontested for the most part. With their extremely prolific reproductive nature and herd mentality they quickly eliminate native fauna through the spread of disease and the rabid consumption of natural resources....

Wow european pigs and europeans are kindred spirits hehe

When a person is too stupid to control his livestock and it is running roughshod all over (*)(*)(*)(*)ed creation... yes he needs to be regulated. Come down to texas hill country and see the destruction feral hogs create. Try googling up invasive plant species and fish.. see how great the damage is.

    this^^^

There is over 4 million wild hogs running around the south causing loads of damage all over and even attacking humans. Pigs go feral faster than any other domesticated mammal on earth. after only a few days in the wild their behavior becomes that of a wild boar.

The hippie fiddlerdave probably has a leather purse while he rants about animal welfare rights. Next time you're worried about living beings fiddler, don't take any antibiotics for that infected tooth or whatever. You'll be killing millions of living beings when you do. That would be like Hitler. All hippies should have to fight off bacterial infections "the natural way"..lol..

You can't just make a blanket statement about regulation like that. I for one am happy for the regulations on power rates, police brutality, the speed limit..what the factory upstream from my creek right can dump out of their waste pipes. I get that you're unhappy about thugs who misuse regulation to punish small business folks like these startup pig farmers. I'm right with you on abuse of power there.

"The big loser is the consumer". Yeah, like I said, those small time pig farmers can get those pigs some nice food while the big factory pig farms slip a lot of nasty wastes into the feed. Their pork is tasteless [if you're lucky], dry. You might as well be eating tofu. Small farm pork often grown near dairy wastes is some of the best pork you'll ever eat.

This is clearly a case of BigPork coming down hard on the competition that they know can add up overnight if enough people catch on.. Ever see those documentaries on the big seed companies coming after the small farmer who tries to put seed by? Jesus H. Christ it makes the Inquisition look like a girl scout cookie drive in comparison..

Their rationale is that these farmers were keeping "feral" pig strains. Got news for them, any pig strain can go feral on you so looks like they have their loophole to raid any small pig farm. Next will they raid the bison ranchers because beefalo hybrids could easily break down fences and go feral? Then hybrid deer ranchers?

I've got an idea. Figure out a way to trap and kill wild boar running amok all over the country and then dress out those carcasses and sell the pork to China to offset our debt. Cheap American pork whose only overhead from newborn to market weight is a $.20 cent bullet. Lemons to lemonade..

When people keep their children from running amok I'll care about the pigs. The pigs you can at least shoot and eat...kids...not so much.

If the DNR didn't like the way these poor pigs were being raised why didn't they let the guy upgrade or sell the pigs??

The guy could have let the pigs go and admitted that the DNR was right about these pigs escaping.

Where is PETA? Just like NOW and the NAACP, they are never around when they have the chance to do something positive.

They have become our enemy for trying to control an invasive species that destroys millions of dollars in property and ruins thousands of acres of rangeland every year?

Do they control pawlonia trees, chestnuts, or stinkbugs? No. They offer suggestions. This is a control thing.

Agreed, pigs will escape off of big pig farms and small ones through human error. Yet the big pig farms didn't get such raids did they? They make it seem like an attempt to crack down on pig farmers raising certain breeds that might go feral. But I pointed out that any type of hog can go feral so they have a wonderful "reason" with a wonderful loophole to crack down on anyone they like. Again, note that is small pig farmers. Now do the math..

Instead of wasting resoures and good pork being shot & left to rot that could otherwise boost the economy around the farmer's home, why not put money into professional snipers who do nothing 7 days a week in shifts but hunt wild boar in the places where they've become problematic, dress the meat out and sell it to China? They eat tons of pork over there and pork has value. (Hence the raids). The population of wild boar would decrease along with the debt, or at least some of the interest on it. I'd think Uncle Sam would be encouraging as much pork production as possible at all levels; hunting them out of the wild, large farms, small farms. There's money in all of it.

Large corporations owning our literal system is going to be the death of us and them. They are so short-sided, greedy, mean and ruthless that they don't see their own demise coming when they burn the foundation of their own palaces..
