I mean lock them OUT when you see a mob approaching.. NOT locking them in.

So, your personal experiences should influence how society handles these parents? What's your solution then?

That's not going to work in the real world. They coordinate via social media and all go in at once. The door would be held open.

Is he an adult? Adults are different. Not much you can do about them, but I'm talking preventive measures so that they are not career criminals.

I'm referring to teens, and as far as not practical...why do I have to pay for someone else's child's stay at juvie? Let them pay for the damages and the stay in detention. Hit people in their pocketbook. You have a teen whose been caught in an act of burglary...you are going to pay his rent at the detention center. No smart phone. No nights out at the club or with the boys. No Direct TV or Internet. No trips to the outlet mall. If enough parents are also impacted by the behavior of their teens the way the rest of us are they might try to take that same time they spend getting their hair done or putting in extra hours at work and put in some quality time.

And...why should the kids suffer for the crime alone? I thought families were "all in it together"?

I'm sure someone will claim that they were Amish kids going after the pork rinds.

He was a loser from about age 12. He left to live with his mother (and threatened to accuse his father of molesting him if he fought it) around age 11. He was kicked out of school around age 14. Again: he lived with his mother, rarely saw his father...it would be exactly as logical as punishing YOU for what he did. That would make just as much sense.

Why was he a loser? Losers's don't come out of the box that way. You said loser since age 12. What happened at 12?

He saw his mother and decided it was easier to be a drunk parasite than to work for a living.

No, you are not paying attention: ONE parent was a parasite. The other was and is not.

So, I should pay their rent at juvie? Why are you punishing me?

    Sometimes.

But how did all the same kind of events happen BEFORE cel phones?

And this 711 manager had dozens of people standing in line for Slurpees! That was a stupid idea 40 years ago!

A store owner has NO right to block ME in his store from leaving because some people were shoplifting.

And what does this manager THINK some criminals are going to DO when he does get in THEIR way and he is outnumbered? Politely wait for police?

From every angle, this guy is an idiot, starting with getting a mob in his store without expending a little money on adequate personnel for crowd control for his "special event"! It is not that there are more criminals these days, we just have dumber, cheaper store managers.

A knee-jerk "blame the victim" mentality.

This part is true, but most people would stay cuz some dramatic (*)(*)(*)(*) is going on. They could get their own "Backin' Up" song about it.

    Does he have a shotgun?

Unless his dog pooped on their lawns or he sold them candy with razor blades in it, I'm not sure what he did to deserve this.

Parents should be able to kill their misbehaving kids without any repercussions. That way everyone would be happy and live in peace and harmony.

I am not saying he DESERVED it.

What kind of outcome could he imagine his action would provoke? Clerks are told over and over to not impede robbers, just let them go and let the police handle it. And it goes without saying that clerks are NOT to impede honest customers leaving the store.

But it was a lose-lose situation. The HONEST people in his store could get pissed about being held hostage, the DISHONEST people in his store could get pissed for being prevented from escape. Maybe there is a hero citizen who will face the crowd in order to help this manager keep his payroll down and profits up, but that is hardly a plan to count on.

These flash mobs are becoming common in US cities. It happens almost everyday somewheres.
They are groups of black youth and they rarely get in trouble as they know enough to
wear hoodies and clothing that hides their faces.

The police can do almost nothing about it anyway as they are juveniles.
Nobody can usually identify them as they outsmart the cameras, go figure.

So the store was handing out free Slurpees - what the hell did they expect was going to happen? You advertise something like that, you'd better expect tons of kids piling in. Bad idea. I don't excuse their behavior, but the store was obviously unprepared for such demand.

We don't have 7-11s up here in Alaska anymore, but they are a national chain of convenience stores here in the States, Mak. I'm not too familiar with them anymore, but more than likely it was a nationwide promotion, so this particular store might not have had a choice but to take part in it. Unless it wasn't one of the "participating stores" that you often hear about in advertisements.
