China is currently having over 14 million abortions per year. Many are forced abortions, or based on the sex of the child. Compare this with only 6 million Jews total in the holocaust. Close to 40% more boys than girls are being born in China with the world's largest population. So I pose the question, is this really what we want to encourage in our country? Here it looks like a woman's right to choose is ironically turning into a holocaust of women.
Yeah it is. You're talking about one of the worst genocides of the 20th century, to something that doesn't even qualify as a genocide.
pro choice =/= forced abortions. If anything, its prolifers who want state control of women's reproduction.
I'm simply disgusted. Millions have died in genocides, but people don't seem to care and use the term for political points.
To restate the facts, over twice the amount of deaths that happened in the holocaust is happening EVERY YEAR in China. It totals up to almost 100 Million deaths which is significantly more than the 6 million that died in the holocaust. (http://www.allgirlsallowed.org/gendercide-china-statistics). Why is this different, because they're women instead of Jews?
You said, baselessly, "gendercide is OK with liberals." Real women die 14 times more in childbirth than abortion; that's what you support. Abortion doesn't kill people, so it isn't genocide. Chinese government restrictions are the source of the problem, not choice. If choice were not available to women, more baby girls would be abandoned or killed, which happens regardless of the availability of abortion.
Wow, that's a quote for the ages. I think that many times more babies die in abortions than in childbirth, but that's OK.
We are having 300.000 abortions and 100.000 births every year , everyone is happy about it. I am grateful to my government for not having to support a child since the age of 17 .
Being pro-choice automatically puts you at odds with China's policies because many times, those are not abortions that are "chosen", they are forced. There's a difference. Pro-choicers, at least ones who are truly pro-choice, want the mother to be the one who chooses. Not another person, not the government, but the mother.
I thought it was more like: Pro choice = Pro sex selective abortions because we all want to choose the sex of our baby, the hair color, eyes, etc...
This doesn't sound very democratic. Only one person gets a say in somebody dying. Sounds a lot more like a dictatorship. Let me guess, you expect us serfs to pay for the Empress and her abortions too, and we get no say at all.
I too used to have the callous, arrogant and liberal viewpoint of "pro-choice" until such time as my wife had our "BABY" inside of her. We went together to see the BABY develop via ultrasound. We saw the BABY moving, heard the heartbeat of the BABY and I was there for the birth. At that point, I realized the miracle of life and understood that when the term "pro-choice" was used that one person was never considered; the BABY. So, I am pro-choice today as long as the baby is given the choice to live or die. We must wait to abort until such time as the BABY is deemed capable to decide for him/herself if they wish to be killed.............err, aborted.
Liberals can't defend what's going on in China, but they defend it anyway, which makes them look bad.
What's going on in China is what you want for the US--government control of women's reproductive systems.
Callous and arrogant to allow a woman a safe abortion if that is what the woman is going to do anyway. really, you would prefer this perhaps? http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2005/jan/06/health.healthandwellbeing
