Just would like to measure how people lean, with this.

Imagine you have had enough of where you are, and decide it is time to pack up, and live in another country.

Don't worry about the paperwork etc, assume you would get in,whatever.

Think of all the factors that are key to you, and try to choose, based on those.

I have given nine options, plus your own.

    Poll to follow>>

I went with Cyprus, for the climate, and it is not too far to fly back, to visit.

I went with Germany, because of the quality of life that German people enjoy, and also because it is just next door to my own country of origin, Belgium.

But really, any of the European countries (with the exception of Greece and Spain) would work for me. I have already had the opportunity to live in Belgium, France, England, and to spend extended vacations in Italy, and Portugal. The advantage of France, Belgium and Germany is that they are very centralized and thus it is easy to travel and take long weekends in other country.

In addition, the food is of high quality, mostly healthy, and delicious. Those countries also have an excellent safety net that allows just about everyone not to suffer too much from recessions. The quality of medical care is also excellent, the culture very interesting and important to the people, and there is a lot of history, beautiful architectural heritage, pristine villages, and great infrastructure.

The only negative I can think of is the weather. . .but then, Ryan Air with it's extra cheap fares can take you to sunny countries in just one hour or two!

I don't think I'll ever get tired of where I live now, but I if I had to choose I'd say Germany by far. I also love Italy.

I picked Canada. It's close enough for the grandkids to visit. The country & the people seem sane & nice (I've visited there). Canada is BORING from what I've heard & the Canadians are smart enough to realize that boring can be a good thing. Taxes are high, but you get what you pay for & from what I've heard, the Canadians get a very good ROI. The question is academic because I'm too old to start over again & not rich, so I wouldn't be able to go there & just start writing checks. Nova Scotia, I think.

Well, that is not much of a USP, is it?

    Plus, it is freezing.

I'll never be able to afford it, but if I could move anywhere, it would be back to SoCal.

I'd move to: South Africa or Chile -- to start a new life...

When I'm older and ready to retire, I'd probably end up in France or Portugal or something.

I'd choose France over Portugal, because the infrastructure is world class.

    St. Thomas, USVI.
Lots of opportunities to be self employed, while rolling out of bed at the crack of noon, in your cleanest dirty shorts.

When the tourists get to be too much, I can go hide at St. Johns.....

Yes, it is a US holding, but we're talking ocean and beaches and ocean.......

    ...

I wasn't thinking about Paris at all.

France is the biggest European country of the EU.

France's appeal isn't Paris, but indeed the sweet country side.

Does the expression "To live as God in France" ring a bell?

If I had to move away from America, I would move to Texas. I mean, that's kinda like moving to another country. Only, it would be a lot closer to my friends and family here in the US.

Not sure how far away Oz is.

If you can blend in going south of the boarder to the greater South America would be your best choice. That will be the new world. The old Builderbergs and the anglo world has come to an end for this duration of human existance.

Asia still has a long way to go, and so does most of the world. But the speed of South Americas growth looks good. Best part is they do not do any wars on other countries. Most of their conflicts are within. But if you are a capitalist, that is prime time.

In which case, there's a certan amount of irony in your name - I suggest you remove the "non" part of it. Or, remove the "conformist" part and move to France ;)
