Maybe not quite as wealthy as the church...but he's gotts be a close second, and no religious contribution.

    Warren Buffet

Warren Edward Buffett [b. 1930] is an American businessman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway rated by Forbes as the richest person in the world (in the first half of 2008, before the Wall Street meltdown). He is noted for adherence to the philosophy of "value investing" and for accepting an annual salary for himself of less than $200,000. Compare that to what taxpayers are now paying the CEOs of failed Wall Street investment firms!

    You asked:
I answered, though it seems you did not actually want the answer. Still, I will answer the next one as well:

"Mr. Buffett, age 82, pledged 12,220,852 shares of Berkshire Hathaway class “B” stock, valued at more than $1-billion, to each of his three children’s foundations. The Howard G. Buffett Foundation gives money to agricultural development, clean-water projects, and programs working to fight poverty. The NoVo Foundation, co-founded by Peter Buffett and his wife, Jennifer, seeks to improve the well-being of girls and women globally and supports economic and education programs. The Sherwood Foundation, founded by daughter Susan Buffett, supports social-justice and early-childhood education.

This pledge follows a 2006 promise to give each foundation about $1-billion, which Mr. Buffett has been steadily paying off each year.

He will begin paying down this latest commitment later this year.

In addition, Mr. Buffett gave stock worth close to $1-million to a charity in 2012 that he declined to name and 10 shares of stock, currently valued at about $12,000 apiece, to each of 15 elementary-school students who won an educational contest sponsored by Mr. Buffett called the “Grow Your Own Business Challenge.” The contest is associated with “The Secret Millionaires Club,” an animated television show that features Mr. Buffet and seeks to teach children about business and personal finance."

Likely these charitable donations have had some level of impact on a great many people.

Why's there always all the bigotry? Religion isn't to blame, nor is atheism.

People are dicks. It's human nature. There's the problem.

Is this thread supposed to be about atheism or is it supposed to be about the constitution? It seems the op goes in way different directions. Should we repeal the death penalty? Because there may actually be life on other planets!

    Sure it is.

Most scientists are atheists, science makes much more meaningful advances than religion could ever hope to make.

What should rational, thinking anti-theists do about Christians and other mystics? Worth? It would seem most wars and the ills of humanity can be blamed on religion itself and in the Abramic religions specifically.

Think about that. No guilt for not pleasing your threatening god. This god that loves you so much that he will roast you over a bouillabaisse of fire forever!

Humanism is the social plan and Christianity uses it. It existed long before the fables of the Bible. Enduring is right... you got it. We have to endure people that believe in something that no one has ever seen, no one has ever heard, and no one has evidence it existed yet you people poison every aspect of life with fiction. Our government is supposed to be free from religion yet there are military chaplains and a chaplain for Congress. There is nothing Godsters can do morally that anti-theists cannot do.

What the fugg are you talking about? Real property... U.S. property.

No, amendments can be added. The concept of community is pre-Christian. Engineering is science and pre-Christian. Why not address the corrupt preachers and ministers who fleece you of cash that they cannot operate their religion without. If Christianity is so powerful, you certainly do not need churches or people to give their money to so that the same fables and teachings can be repeated over and over. Seriously. All sermons are retreads.

    Nope.

One must ask if Christianity is the so-called truth, why doesn't it make people happy? Atheists and anti-theists have no need to gather very week and remind themselves what they don't believe. Christians do and even the best hard-core Christians (baptists, evangelicals) gather 3 to 4 times a week.

To add to this, religion cannot give anything tangible or real to humanity... only mystical concepts. One could argue food or shelter, but those things already existed.

Yep and all those things are religious institutions, and would be completely impossible to devise without a Holy Book present.

Do you have anything constructive to add, or something that is equally as nonsensical?

the social laws we impose on ourselves predate religion, we are social animals and as all social animals we have behaviours that we follow in order to survive...

It's sad that you're so completely unaware of religion's contributions to society. It also sounds like you've never heard of Lewis' proof of the existence of a deity.

Yeah, but the calendar is something that was described in the Old Testament, and according to better legend, the Catholic Church was last notable guardian. So what do the atheists offer as a more scientifically derived calendar?
