Why not? If they believe it, it has to be true, does it not?

Why do you think people writing in the early 20th century had no agenda? You state that like it has some kind of merit but don't provide any substantiation to support that idea.

My daughter is a is contributor to them also!

I've read & quoted "Foxes Book of Martyrs " on here quite a bit, which includes the Inquisition (persecution by the religious) , and so dont take martyrdom lightly!

Not all are called to be 'God's paymasters,' and some who can handle $$$ w/o it owning them (like Roy & Dale Rogers of past) are faithful in little and then given much..

Again, pick another fight, as the reason that Amazon makes them FREE to their Prime members is that they are considered 'Classics!"

Cheap shotting on your part...the only conniption I've had on this thread was about 'our' military and 'our' entitlement kids!

Had to take Alfalfa to the 'Margarita wood shed' for some discipline , as

Every so often when you come across one of the 'agitating trolls' (with a reputation for such), who while we were growing up were called 'smart-mouth punks,' they need a 'verbal' trip to the woodshed. And just as when the 'weight of the law' comes down in full force, both barrels are given in the hopes that something will get thru to get their attention and hopefully 'stick!' Some ppl in their folly need an 'in-you-face' wake up call to snap them out of their folly...but then per scripture,

    Proverbs 26:11
As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.

It's kind of funny that you bring up an article that states things are getting better there, that the negatives they talk about are for a very specific demographic and are qualified, it doesn't talk about their higher achievement in education, that their economy is stronger than ours and it is limited to only one of the countries we are talking about.
Pretty weak rebuttal all the way around.

Many classics are dated. Do you think you are making a cogent point? What do you think it might be?
"Thus Spake Zarathustra" is considered a classic in philosophy? Does that mean you ascribe to everything Nietzche suggests?

    nah.....that was all me.........

Why would that be? Does martyrdom equal truth?

Golly. Yes, it's always best to beat your version of the truth into people. Don't forget to publicly execute the really stubborn ones.

I am just always on guard against the "properity gospel". Have you heard the new song by shai linne, he has a new song called "false teachers" where he calls out preachers of the properity gospel, such as Joel Osteen, T.D. Jakes, Paula white, etc. It got him in some hot water with Paula white's son.

I take it you are trying to say you have absolutely no ability to decipher if someone is coming from an agend driven point of view.
    Point taken.

I sat under that type of teaching for 3 yrs, didnt set right with me, and left it!

I've seen too many prosperity (meaning $$$$$) preachers over the years that go from congregations of 100 ppl to as many as 10,000 and then fall due to having their eyes on the $$$...they end up loosing any humility, point up to God for their success, but by their behaviors & walk, they start patting themselves on their backs for being great orators and God's man of the hour!

And if one looks behind the scenes on how they get 'salaried,' it would turn off most sincere Christians, as ministries is run as a business with the senior pastors et al getting a % of the 'take.'

Again my years of seeking the truth have taught me many times over not to place my eyes or trust on men!! Any men, as all can fall as their 'lusts' and pride get involved..many start out sincerely with small congregations, but as they grow, change with pride and the recognition of the 'other' prosperity preachers who acknowledge them and flatter them with equal high standings in their communities of being like-minded....

Actually his purpose in starting this thread has been to show how incivility in America is the fault of those who have not embraced Christianity.
I have no idea why you can't understand that from his posts.
    (LOL!)

Good debate! Think you may need a trip to that wood shed..[IMG]

But as you are being 'uncivil" I can ignore responding to your posts as would be "tit-for-tatting' and I would lose by joining in

Btw, I'm more 'joyous' than anytone you ever met--I have a friends & family fan club that aids me in overlooking your types!

The influence of Texas on textbook content has been a major drag to the modernization of available teaching materials in the public schools.
Your article is agenda driven, as it assumes educated people have an agenda that is inculcated to them through the process of their education.
The best way to discern the credibility of serious study on any subject is typically by looking into the sources that are used. Broad source study is the hallmark of the truly inquisitive historian, scientist or any serious researcher. This is why systematic theology is such a silly topic of study, as it starts with the presumption of the truth of scripture and builds its case around that presupposition.
Much of the material one finds under "Current Events" at your local Barnes & Noble are agenda driven screeds intended to twist selected material to predetermined ends.
Do you really need to be told this, or are you simply desperate to defend your bias developed from the use of antiquated sources?

I don't think I'm the one that has devolved to name calling and rudeness.
You have a very odd way of making the case for the OP.
