    First, either someone is using old statistics or they don't know what the population is here;

    313.9 million
    https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy...14,d.cGE&fp=26c29a438f965b4f&biw=1440&bih=737

Second, with all the guns in the civilian hands of the third world countries (how can they be soldiers when they have no insignia or uniform that can be seen and recognized at a distance??) I would highly doubt his figures.

Hey, Bower, have you got off your, "everything here is classified as sexual assault where it isn't t in the U.S.."" kick yet. If not, you might want to go look at some of the sexual harassment lawsuits going on. "Oh, he talked to me and I didn't want him to", "Oh, he looked at me a certain way and I didn't like it". I could go on but ANYTHING at makes someone feel uncomfortable is classified as sexual harassment. If you touch someone, I don't care if it's on the arm, it turns into sexual assault. To take it a little farther, if a police officer pokes you in the chest with his finger it's classified as assault and if you feel big enough you can deck the officer with no charges being filed on you. To be punny, they have got real touchy about someone touching someone else here in the States.

here's the part the socialists really love.............if you are found guilty of sexual harassment, ie., mouthing off inappropriately without touching, your name goes into a sex offenders registry list of offenders and you can become a sexual offender by simply telling woman she looks great. You can also loose your Right to own a gun.
60% of most murders are a direct result of alcohol consumption.

Your reasoning follows a lame dog.............. you have no idea about Rights because you don't have any. and I/3 of Americans are on the welfare dole, and the 1/3 are government employees. Do the math, subject, do the math. You don't even visit here, you have no idea about America, only what you dream up in your head.

4 pages later and your question still hasn't been answered. Does anyone actually have an idea how to enforce background checks for all private transactions? Think of a drug dealer on the streets. How could you force every street dealer to require a doctors prescription to sell drugs to their customers? It's the same concept. How can you force a private party to follow that regulation and know for certain they will actually do it? Anyone?

    One of my favorite jokes.

Full mandatory registration along with agreeing to a search anytime of the day or night to insure that everyone is following the laws. We all know that a criminal is not going to register.....

I am totally against registration and background checks for private sales.
The only way they could enforce it would be to take our rights away and if (we) the people allow it, it can happen......

It will just encourage them to fly under the radar. You could sell a gun in a private transaction then report it as stolen. If the person who bought your gun gets caught with it you have a police report claiming the gun was stolen so if they rat you out for selling it they won't be able to prove it. If they don't get caught with the gun and they do nothing to draw attention to themselves the police won't search them for illegal arms.

The pertinent questions is obviously, how do they keep criminals from getting guns. Can you answer that simple question?

Yup, it's brave people who buy guns to "defend themselves" against the impending foreign military attacks, criminals who hide in every shadow, black helicopters, alian invasions, zombie apocolypse... or whatever.

People who don't think they need guns to defend themselves from these imagined threats are just scared...

Sorry if this had been mentioned already...didn't look through the pages of responses.

How do background checks prevent normal citizens from getting guns?

Because everything is a felony nowadays.

so according to you there is no crime anyplace in the world after all you are making the claim that if you own a gun to protect yourself form a crime you are paranoid so that means their is no crime. you are also ignoring the fact that every study ever conducted including the latest from the anti gun Obama admin shows that guns are used in self defense hundreds of times more than in a crime. so please explain how guns are used to stop crime if there is not crime. but if their is crime how is it paranoid for a person to own a gun to protect themselves from the crime?

Wow, that was so poorly written it took me a few minutes to read.

Let's say that my wife and I are currently around 40 years old.

In our 80 years, we've never been in a position (outside of military service) in which we needed a firearm to survive.
My neighbors are in their late 70s, and have also never needed a firearm to survive.

Between my neighbor's home and my home, there's been over 200+ years of life lived with no need for a firearm. I'm willing to bet we could go the next 200 years without needing one (and I don't plan on being around that long).

Maybe your experience is different... How many crimes have you been a victim of that you would not have survived if you didn't have a gun?

Wow so totally unnecessary a statement

So what. Nice to know and good for you. Doesn't mean anything to all the victims of crime that should they have had a weapon to defend themselves, they might not be a victim or a dead victim. Kinda selfish of you to use your experiences to deny others the right to self defense.

Why do you care what others experiences are, just because someone wants to be self reliant in matters of self defense doesn't affect you at all. Your point is moot.

your right so because you have never been a victim of a crime, crime does not exist so lets safe tons of money and get rid of all police departments.
let me ask you this have you ever had your house burn down? if not why do you have a smoke detector or have fire extinguishers? after all according to you since it has never happened it never will so you don't need those things.
I see you failed to explain how in a society with zero crime as you claim, how all the people stopped a crime with their gun.

I read somewhere that a person who is good with a quarter staff can usually take out a good archer over any disputed bridge crossing.
