What a joke. American Conservatives have much in common with Abbott. What is clear is that he has little in common with Obama and the American liberals..

Yeah, actually there was coverage here about how he stole the main points from what worked here in Canada. By 2010, the governor of the Bank of Canada, David Dodge, gained international acclaim for his recovery vehicle, conservative hoarding of resources, so much so he was recruited by the Euro Bank to come and help them solve their on-going crises.

Obama rejected the format and chose to go the other direction, printing money and running up the debt.

Your grand children's kids, base on current taxation levels will have to work seven an a half months to pay taxes.

    Yeah Obama

Well genius show us the economic data to back your point instead of shooting your mouth off about something you were not even aware of 3 hours ago

No I believe they just like the Torres in England are closer to the democrats. They favor a single payer healthcare, gun control, and bigger government. They even call themselves the liberal party and they are not classic liberals(libertarians) I provided a link in the post you quoted to their plan. This goes to the discussion we had in a different thread the US left vs right does not translate to other countries. Where the left actually are socialist. Yet go ahead and say I'm a aussie liberal since I disagree with you. In the US they would likely be democrats or RINOs at the least. You would not want them to be in charge here they would be no better than Obama to a conservative. The gun control alone makes me have little use for them.

The Aussie's have spoken at the ballot box. Evidently they rejected the Labor platform.

Meh, the ball gets passed back and forth. Aussies got tired of one government and wanted a change. They haven't rejected liberal principles - Aussies are by and large fairly progressive - they support abortion, same-sex marriage and certainly believe in climate change.

The Labour Party just came off looking unprofessional after all the leadership contests.

factional fighting - same reason the LNP has lost more times than I can count - including the Queensland Election before last

Which is why it is amusing to see people OUTSIDE of Australia interpreting this as a move to the right. Our "right" is still so far left of your centre you could not find us with a telescope

Sure and I am not arguing that at all. The election was a case that Labor lost rather than the Liberals winning. Labor shed nearly 5% of its primary votes, but the Liberals only picked up less than 2%. This was after the Liberals had maintained a 6% lead in the TPP numbers for most of the year.

Fortunately for Labor the Liberals where not even smart enough to go to the election with their best man. If Malcolm Turnbull had of led the party, Labor would be having caucus meetings in a phone box.

Tony Abbott of the Liberal Nationals Party Coalition wins an election and all the Reds in America start shouting about a conservative victory.

You can't make this stuff up!!!

    Ah, where's yours?

I would venture to suggest that IF there were economic figures showing a rosy picture the Labour Party would have used them...

Whenever a political pendulum swings it is because people are voting AGAINST the government...which means in plain English that they are what we in North America, the trend setters of the English language, call PISSED OFF. That is Political Science 101.

And people whose cupboards are full NEVER vote conservative.

So where's your economic data...show us that 8ty-2's reasoning is wrong as you have alleged.

Agreed - few people find Tony Abbott palatable in ANY form. But, thanks to Rupert Murdoch and his dancing press Kevin Rudd and subsequently labor was vilified

Interesting how well candidates like Clive Palmer did

We're far more conservative imo, but we do go through cycles. We have no gay marriage clearly with such a crushing loss to Labor and the pro gay parties its a non issue for the vast majority of us.

We dont mind helping the poor, elderly ect but it must be done while keeping us employed, keeping the economy healthy and NOT running up massive debts. We will not tolerate anything less, thats why so much of our campaigns were about 'how will that be paid for'. Something many other nations dont care about given their debt levels. Even labor had to run a hardline on boat people, we'd never cop being invaded like the US does.

They did but it was buried on page 34 by the Murdoch press. Rudd KNEW there was another global depression heading our way - China which had ridden out the last recession was finally failing so could NOT paint a rosy future picture - and the liberals were smart enough NOT to show any future costings

Who did you vote for, the labor party? If you did, you lost.

"Liberal" means conservative here but no, you would probably be too far right for most of our conservatives - even those who think they are on the left. As an example - one of the central platforms of the Liberal party here was for paid maternity leave

Really??? Strange, I read several quotes and post from Aussie's complaining about the carbon tax and was one of their main reasons for voting with the conservative party. I have to wonder if you really have your pulse on the heart of the people there.

In his acceptance speech just a few moments ago, he named scrapping Australia's carbon tax as the very first thing he hopes to accomplish in the next three years.

I know but as usually with PF if are not in lock step with either crowd you must be on the other side. God forbid if you think for yourself. I was under the impression that the Australian Liberal party was economic liberals and social conservatives. Is that correct by American standards?
