She did nothing that justifies ending her life. They should have shot to disable the vechicle and not to kill.

 

This stuff is just stupid. Someone rams a barricade at the White House, they are surrounded by armed secret service and decide to run. In the process she hits an officer, the chase also results in another officer being in a serious wreck. All the while she is headed toward the capital building. I find it logical for them to fear she had some pretty serious intentions, possibly a car bomb or something. If someone is stupid enough to ram a barricade on the White House property they should be prepared for a pretty severe reaction. Anyone who thinks she was unjustly shot is on the mental level she was IMHO. And I am usually pretty critical of officer shootings and over reactions. You cannot try to force your way into an area like the White House and hit secret service with your car and think they are going to give you a traffic ticket. DUMB

 

Why did they have to shoot at all? It was a car chase. What actions of hers do you think warranted deadly force?

 

When guarding property of the US government, in some places, and only in very restrictive places, and only in circumstances a person of reasonable understanding would know their action is justified, deadly force is authorized. Are you saying DC, the WH specifically, is one of those places?

 

Assault with a deadly weapon... attempted murder of a police officer... forcibly breaching WH security... gross child negligence/endangerment. Those cops probably saved that baby putting her bat(*)(*)(*)(*) mother down. Strong fear of possible car bomb.

I am confused by my conservative friends attitudes here. Most of them should have a strong sense of what happens, militarily, when someone crashes a barricade protecting... something... in the desert. This is our White House... our CiC. Probably the highest value target in the world. To second chance the capitol... I would fully assume there is a bomb involved and do whatever I could to end her.

 

Because if that's the case, just like every military installation where deadly force is authorized, there should be giant signs posting that warning. In some cases, loudspeakers play recordings in many different languages providing this warning. Oh, what, it's common sense that deadly force is authorized at a barricade several hundred yards away from the White House front steps? Is it?

 

Yes, I am saying that when someone tries to forcefully enter the White House grounds, is prevented from doing so and heads towards capital hill, hitting one officer in the process, deadly force is justified. If they would have found a bomb in the trunk after she was dead, no one would be questioning it.

 

My take on this has nothing to do with politics. I'm always critical of cops that shoot unarmed people.

Yes, I agree that the police can and will use the "vehicle as a deadly weapon" excuse. I get that. Most people will side with the cops on this one. I can't. Not unless it's totally obvious that's her intent, to run over cops. But that doesn't appear to be her intent. She accidentally grazed one of them, who has virtually no injuries to speak of and, I believe, has left the hospital.

 

The barriers will stop a car bomber. That's why we've spent billions on them. The cops know this. The cops weren't protecting the president or themselves. She turned the car away from the barriers and fled!

 

For most anyone with a lick of common sense? Yes, busting through barricades and running over secret service is something that will get you shot.

I am confused by the people on here that are crying about her getting shot, some of these people will come on these boards and try to justify police shooting unarmed people all the time, perps who are a far less threat than someone trying to bust through security to get at the White House.

I'm not one of them. She didn't get shot at the White House barricades. That's one problem with your assessment. She was fleeing in a car! Since when are cops justified shooting unarmed women with their babies in moving vehicles?

 

Fled toward the capital after attempting entry onto the White House grounds. She was obviously someone with a terrorist plan or someone with some pretty serious mental issues capable of doing something pretty severe. You make it sound like she came to the Whitehouse for a tour, was turned away, chased down, pulled from her car and executed.

 

I didn't suggest that. She was fleeing when she struck, bumped, grazed, whatever, the officer. She wasn't trying to kill him! Read what the eye witnesses said about her hitting the officer.

Who says she was trying to get away? She tried to forcibly enter the White House grounds, hit a secret service agent when she was prevented from doing so and was seen as a deadly threat. What would you think she was up to? You cant just wait and see, they had to make a decision based on what info they had.
