http://www.cbc.ca/the180/excerpts/2013/10/09/should-canadians-get-a-guaranteed-minimum-income/ Next week Conservative senator Hugh Segal will give a speech in front of a convention of business owners, about ways to eliminate poverty in Canada. He'll tell them the idea he favours is the establishment of a guaranteed minimum income for all Canadians. In the 1970's it was tried in Dauphin, Manitoba, and Segal says "mincome" should get another chance. Before he heads to that convention, he'll make the case here on The 180. Should your income be topped up by the government if you don't make enough on your own? Leave your comments below if you'd like to let us know what you think of the idea. ---------- While I realise this is probably a calculated move to make Conservative Senators look good, this is a good idea. Get rid of EI and welfare subsidies and give everyone a minimum amount every year. People will still work because they'll still need more money. Trudeaus liberals should jump right on this. It's a win win, Any opinions on this? It would all go to the economy and bump it up.
I agree, welfare and ui are insufficient but topping those up to get people out of poverty would cure a lot of social ills, generate economic growth, and save billions that would be spent on fixing the effects of poverty...there will be people who will abuse it whether they're on welfare or UI but those types have always been with us and always will be...
If we looked at Bank of Canada policy in a more accurate way it would be relatively easy to finance this. www.BankingSystemFlaws.blogspot.ca/
It is theoretically possible for Canada to be formed into one massive film production cooperative..... and/ or company....... Each of the major political parties could appoint themselves an "Artistic Director." EAch of the major Canadian political parties could print up a party Volunteerism Hour or Dollar and use it as a prop in films designed to create job and improve the lives...... or even save the lives of Canadians..... and our allies. Those films could grow and increase in value.... .because a world is coming where human life will be regarded as having intrinsic nearly infinite value. At least this is my understanding of a more Theistic Version of Evolutionary Theory and how it can change our view of the value of life itself...... all life.... but especially human life. http://www.politicalforum.com/opini...lligence-begin-matter-fundamental-energy.html Where did Intelligence begin, in matter or fundamental energy? I am an Evolutionary Theist........ I am of the belief that a being with "Godlike" technological capability began, far far far far far more than 13.72 billion years ago, in fundamental or nearly fundamental energy that to at least some degree corresponds with "Energy from Quantum Vacuum." This Intelligence learned and learned, and experimented..... .and designed Big Bang type events, nearly an infinite number of them, and eventually, around 13.72 billion year or so ago began our....... Big Bang event that led to the evolution plus creation of all the life forms that we see here on earth.
One afternoon about five to seven years ago, I was watching Sun News Media, and if I remember correctly it was Mr. Brian Lilly who was interviewing an economist, (it might have been Mr. Steve Keen), and the economist was giving Canada's then Prime Minister Stephen Harper credit for pursuing policies that kept Canada's prime rate low, because this was doing wonders for the economy. The economist stated, that in the previous year, IF the interest rate had been ONE PERCENTAGE POINT HIGHER, that would have costed Canadian taxpayers roughly THIRTY BILLION DOLLARS IN INTEREST PAYMENTS........ so yes...... there are ways to finance a guaranteed minimum income, that could be significantly higher than what individuals and families living on welfare are receiving. I tried my best to address an alternative way of looking at the Canadian economy in my 2006 campaign for the office of M. L. A. as an independent. www.BankingSystemFlaws.blogspot.ca/ P. M. Justin Trudeau does also deserve some credit considering: http://thechronicleherald.ca/busine....5-amid-stronger-yet-uncertain-global-economy Bank of Canada keeps key rate at 0.5% amid stronger yet uncertain global economy
Oh C'mon! Is an hour's worth of work really the same between Ottawa, Labrador, Quebec, Alberta, etc.? Moi r > g the way Ottawa likes it. View attachment 47018
Hugh needs to get on the streets of downtown Calgary and get to know the people that live on them. A minimum income will not cure their addictions, it will only feed their addictions.
On the other hand a minimum income of sorts could perhaps be worked out at the local level. Calgary Dollars cannot be used at the Alberta Liquor Commission and very few drug dealers will accept them either so they could play a significant role in lifting many Calgarians up out of poverty, addiction and homelessness. Now, even the City of Calgary is accepting Calgary Dollars for fifty percent of the cost of a business license. http://calgarydollars.ca/ http://calgarydollars.ca/about/
And theoretically........ something like this could be organized by Canada's charitable organizations........ and connected with a Conservative Party Volunteerism Hour......... and connected to dozens.... then hundreds.... then thousands of reality films..... that take place in communities in Canada that are rising up against the attempt that is being made against freedom of religion in Canada by P.M. Trudeau, (at least that is how I see it anyway). George Soros and Warren Buffet are publicly talking about how the USA Petro-dollar should be devalued......... I disagree and many Canadian, Australian and Israeli "conservatives" tend to agree with me. There are 4.3 trillion USA Petro - dollars in the hands of individuals, companies and nations that might well decide to cooperate with Soros and Buffet..... those funds could be frozen by President Trump.... and diverted..... .and linked to the Canadian and Australian dollars. Should Sorek 2 be in Australia or California?
That is a good comment...... and has validity for the segment of the population of Canada that is already addicted....... but for the majority of Canadians a Basic Minimum Income could significantly reduce the incidence of young mothers feeling economically pressured to have an abortion? Would a Basic Minimum Income dramatically reduce abortions? I am advocating the usage of the Bank of Canada that is owned by all Canadians to finance giving five hundred dollars per month to all thirty seven million Canadians. It will of course mean much more to poorer Canadians than to millionaires........ but it could be surprising how many stay at home wives with cheap and stingy millionaire husbands who control the purse strings of the home may find this extra five hundred very helpful indeed. I suspect that well over eighty percent of of Canadians will spend this money reasonably well and: 1. enrol their kids in more after school programs..... 2. begin to purchase a higher percentage of organic produce vs the cheap GMO stuff 3. purchase a newer car, SUV or half ton truck 4. do renovations to their homes 5. hire landscapers to do certain projects on their properties 6. pay down their debt loads, especially the higher interest ones 7. buy a new home rather than renting 8. buy a cottage outside the city so that they can get away for weekends 9. many will choose to move to rural Canada in order to escape relatively hectic city life 10. eat at nice restaurants more often 11. I also believe that a significant percentage of Canadian women who would have chosen to have an abortion under the present economic situation will CHOOSE to keep their babies as opposed to having an abortion! I suspect that less than ten percent of Canadians will attempt to live off this five hundred dollars / month and simply use it to drink or smoke more. To whatever degree this happens the worst cases where these Canadians put themselves and others in danger this can be dealt with by issuing food stamps vs a monthly check.
I think this is a grand idea. And I'm willing to do my part. If the government will pay me the mere pittance of $1000 a month I hereby promise to spend the entirety of it on keeping as many young ladies as will listen to me gloriously pregnant. Direct Deposit is gladly accepted.
I think that it should be began in the State of Utah.......... the residents of that State would tend to be interested in a possible way to reduce their rate of abortions even further although they already do have one of the lowest rates in the USA. Hey... this could fit with: https://www.latimes.com/opinion/sto...mney-white-horse-prophecy-mormon-joseph-smith
I agree! https://www.basicincomecanada.org/tags/hugh_segal He’s Urged a Guaranteed Income for Years. Are We Ready Yet? Posted by Roderick Benns 362sc on January 05, 2020 ...... I'm advocating a much more simple method that is universal to all thirty seven piont six million Canadians, not merely to the poor.
Sure, Canada should try the "mincome," and they should also try a "maxcome" which would help pay for the "mincome." Suggested: The minimum a person can make is 60,000 CAD, and the maximum he can make is $80,000 CAD. If a person makes $140,000, the Canadian Government will confiscate $60,000. If a person makes $100,000, the Canadian Government will confiscate $20,000. If a person makes $40,000, the Canadian Government will give him $20,000. If a person doesn't work, the Canadian Government will give him $60,000. The above is a great plan to end poverty and eliminate wealth inequality and would undoubtedly make Canada even more wonderful than it is now. A grand idea indeed.
Thank you for your reply but I personally am on a very different page as of today, January 6, 2021 .......... http://www.politicalforum.com/index...writings-as-art.534297/page-2#post-1072329875
