Here is the thing....the FACT of Evolution does not conflict with one's belief in a GOD. Now for those enough to take Genesis word for word....well...I am sorry but they are just going to have to live in the 21st Century.

In this day and age...a VAST amount of JOBS are centered around GENETICS AND GENETIC ENGINEERING.

About 99% plus of the fruit and vegetables you currently buy and eat are Genetically Engineered as well as Genetic Tests and Genetic Engineering is one of if not the fastest growing fields and job creation fields in existence.

The benefits for extending Human Life, curing Disease such as Diabetes, Cancer, AID's, M.S.....etc....and even the Common Cold....as well as Genetic Tests determining when a woman is pregnant and such a pregnancy at a point just exists as a clump of cells or even a late term fetus....such tests can determine any Genetic abnormalities or Diseases and we will and currently ARE....capable of curing them before birth.

As well....right now we are just starting to grow Human Replacement Parts such as Hearts, Livers, Kidneys...etc...and we already have grown Skin, Blood...etc....the applications are LIMITLESS.

ALL...of this is specific and connected to EVOLUTION as any child without the proper education is not going to be able to get a JOB in this extremely fast growing field....which is already IMMENSE IN SIZE AND APPLICATION.

Whether it be a Midwestern Farmer.....a Doctor....Pharmacist....Biologist....Zoologist....Sea Food Farmer....Apple or Fruit Orchard Grower....or more than I can type here....EVOLUTION...and an understanding of it is KEY to all these jobs, applications and fields.

Seriously? Your darling little article by Larry Sabato has absolutely no correlation with liberals being educated like the Founders. Granted most Founders were Classic Liberals, but that ain't nothing like liberalism today. Good Grief, Charley Brown.

 

I find it hilarious that we are "depriving children" by not teaching them evolution in biology but you don't hear a peep from the liberals about depriving our children when there is no requirement for classes for statistics, economics or personal finance in our schools.

What % of our population will actually use biology and evolution for anything other than conversation pieces later in life? Now how many children will have to deal with statistics, economics and personal finances an innumerable amount of times?

You want to whine and complain about our children being deprived, cry about something that matters and will actually have an impact on our children's lives. Not to mention if kids knew about personal finance and economics it would cure MANY of our country's ills today. Maybe that's why the left doesn't advocate for it.

BTW this thread should have ended with the liberal who essentially said the founding fathers were wrong and that the ideas of the left today are far superior. Morons.

 

Just to let you know I am a Fiscally Conservative and Socially Liberal Independent from Massachusetts and you are correct that we should be placing greater emphasis upon requiring classes for statistics, economics or personal finance in our schools.

However as important as that is....so is learning Biology, Physics, Evolution, Mathematics and Computer Science.

Evolution is not only a proven FACT but is so connected with the many JOBS that are at the highest percentage of all jobs in the U.S. and WORLD that it is hard not to state a job the Evolution is not in some way connected.

For example....a Carpenter....a Mechanic....and a Dept. of Public Works Employee in any town or city anywhere.

Now how is evolution connected to these jobs?

The 2x4's and other wood that the carpenter uses or frames a home with is all wood from trees that have been Genetically Engineered to grow faster, straighter and taller with a greater and stronger wood density.

The Mechanic is using Genetically Engineered Oil Spill Clean Up material packed with Genetically Engineered Bacteria that eats the oil.

The DPW worker is using all sorts of Genetically Engineered Products from Weed Killer to prevent sidewalk and street cracking....to Pest Control Material that is not harmful to people or the environment....and even ORANGE SPRAY PAINT....that uses a Genetically Engineered Algae Pigment that will turn clear and degrade in sunlight as well as be non-toxic.

With all due respect, AA, the mechanic, carpenter, or department of public works employee, may benefit from biology, or physics, or even evolution, but damned sure does need to know those subjects to do his job.

Especially the department of public works employee, who usually has the science of standing around in groups of several while one man digs a hole, down to a science.

What I am especially happy about is Geneticists can now make Stem Cells from just about any cell in the body.

For years Federal Funds were denied to various Groups who were on the cutting edge of Stem Cell research in search of cures for Alzheimer's and a vast number of diseases....because of some misplaced Moral Issue specific to Right Wing Religious Groups.

Thus these scientists were only able to use a small number of stem cell groups approved by the Fed's or else not get funding.

Children are being deprived if they are not taught about evolution. In addition, liberals often complain about various areas of poor education standards including economics and statistics. One of my own personal complaints is the lack of mathematical understanding in our population.

The importance of evolution is not limited to a biological setting. For example, evolution is used in computer science to solve optimization problems.

So maybe if we weren't busy trying to throw up red herrings and stop depriving children of information, the world would be a better place.
