According to Democrats, the economy is booming. But they are pushing to hurry an extension of unemployment benefits. More precisely, Emergency unemployment benefits. Emergency unemployment benefits in a booming economy!

According to Republicans, the economy sucks, barely limping along, with many millions of Americans out of work longer than ever in our nations history. And yet to Republicans, emergency unemployment benefits aren't necessary. So, according to Repubs, one shouldn't be concerned about securing an income in the worst economy in our nations history. What the...?

Man I wish they'd all just stop playing politics and stop trying to have it both ways.

Around the globe 300 million people are jobless ( The Economist). We also have very scary figures for unemployment. This is the time, when political parties have to develop a bipartisan approach to address this issue. Lot of jobs are lost overseas, manufacturing industry is gone, because we are buying cheaper products from other countries. Education is getting expensive everyday. New generation are not trained properly and then even finding a job according to their training is another uphill task.

I think the best solution is to merely rethink how we calculate unemployment. Let's merely move the decimal to the left and WHAM! Unemployment is cut by 7%. See, problem solved.

Agreed. I've been in residential construction all my life. And I've never seen it this bad or for this long.

maybe it's not a good time to force us to buy light bulbs which cost 12x more than good ole 60w bulbs

maybe it's not a good time to add more EPA regulations

maybe it's time to drill baby drill everywhere

maybe it's time to build refineries

maybe it's time to lower taxes

Yes, and you can keep your doctor and HC plan if you like them, period. Don't look for honesty from that crowd.

As I recall, the GOP's argument is that extending benefits encourages continued unemployment and that the money for this extension should come out of existing expenditures and not be added to the national debt.

This isn't an unreasonable demand. There's plenty of redundancy, waste and fraud that can be eliminated to pay for the extension.

Nah! There's nothing wrong with this nation that going wide full open socialist agenda and regulations crazy while pushing taxes through the moon won't fix . . . in leftwing "Hope and Change!" alternate-reality land that is.

When I got laid off about 10 years ago, I got 26 weeks unemployment. Now the dems want to give people up to 73 weeks. If you can't get a job in 73 weeks, you're a moron.

This is nothing more than a cheap democrat strategy to secure the votes of the people who would rather remain "funemployed" than get a job where they are productive and contributing to society.

    Which is correct.

    .

That's incorrect, Their concern is paying for it, as it should be in the real world. But in the end we'll just end up borrowing the money, so they're probably pissing in the wind.

Yea, what the....? Where did that come from?

    Look who's talking....

I heard one democratic politician say this is a good thing because it puts more money into the economy. Lol.....

So the dems have redefined reality.... extending unemployment benefits IS a boom in the economy.

That Republican argument that "unemployment compensation encourages continued unemployment" is a suitable argument for a good economy, not a bad one. That's why I say the Repubs are at odds with reason and with their own statements. Likewise the waste and fraud. Those can be addressed any time in any circumstance. But to hinge an emergency unemployment package on generalized prudence in spending denies the very essence of the emergency. Not to mention that Repubs constantly state that the economy is awful, and that millions are unemployed. Then turn right around and say that aid to the unemployed will keep them from working, when repubs know darn well that, aid or no aid, the jobs aren't there. And they even say it over and over and over again. So is it is or is it ain't. And btw, the economic tsunami that swept thru the nation did not discriminate. So half of the registered voters who are out of work are Republicans. They're not all liberals or sloths and leeches.

According to Obama, paying people not to work creates jobs. If the unemployment benefits will not be extended, it'll cost us 240,000 jobs. :roflol::roflol:

This clown must be laughed out of town. Why is he still in Washington?

So the liberal solution is lifetime unemployment checks?

The Obama economy sucks and he is only making it worse by paying lazy Obama voters not to work.

Yes. Should not be happening in America, and yet it does. Apparently, majority of Americans enjoy being lead by a clown.

Some say that. So sure. But do you really want to bicker over what to cut or offset while people are having their electric and water service discontinued, evictions, yard sales, going homeless? For gosh sakes, it's called emergency unemployment compensation for a reason.

Why would you think that the unemployed are Obama supporters? Probably half of the people who are registered voters who lost their jobs when the economy tanked, are Republicans.
