I know a bit about exactly what the current Chinese Anti-Ship and Carrier Killer Missile systems are capable of and what the level of threat they pose to a U.S. Navy Carrier Battle Group.

The Chinese understanding that their Navy even though they are attempting to expand it is vastly inferior to the U.S. Naval presence in the Pacific and the Chinese in an attempt to develop a weapon system that could possible even up the odds started developing anti-ship and carrier killer missiles.

But here is the thing....the U.S. Navy projected more than a decade ago that China would attempt to develop such missile systems and this is why all USN. Carrier Groups have Ticonderoga Class Aegis Cruisers equipped with state of the art SM-3 ABM/ASATS.

Take a look at this video....LINK...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDqNjnUNUl8

All the way back in 2008 the U.S. had a satellite with a highly toxic Hydrazine Booster Tank in a failing Earth orbit.

It became a concern that the Hydrazine Booster Tank would most likely survive re-entry into Earth's atmosphere and so it was decided this was a great opportunity to test the new SM-3 ABM/ASAT....in an attempt to directly strike JUST the Hydrazine Tank with a SM-3 without a warhead and not hit the satellite itself.

This video shows an SM-3 being launched from a Ticonderoga Class Aegis Cruiser the CG-70 Lake Erie....and in the video you will see this Sm-3 ABM/ASAT DIRECTLY STRIKE AND EXPLODE the Hydrazine Tank and this Missile does so striking just the tank on a satellite AT ORBITAL DISTANCE as this satellite is traveling at a rate of speed I believe of14,000 to 17,000 miles per hour...well the video will tell you.

There is NO THREAT of any Chinese Missile attack upon a U.S. Carrier Group.

This threat will become even lower as very soon all USN. Carriers and all USN. Aegis Cruisers will have installed the FEL or Free Electron Laser system.

Maybe China thinks that our carriers are like theirs, with no planes? It's utterly inconceivable to me that people can get caught up in these little scenarios where they completely shunt out the reality of military operations.
First, we would know exactly when these missiles were being loaded onto any particular ship, and from that point, we would have them targeted by multiple delivery platforms at every second.
If they did engage in the folly of actually launching one at us, the launch platform would be atomized within microseconds, and we would engage the missile with a variety of deterrents. Once that happened, the ENTIRE Chinese military complex would be in severe and imminent danger of total annihilation. I don't think there's any danger of it coming to this, because the Chinese are indeed wise, and they understand the penalty of urinating on the electric fence.

    You are right.

The Chinese if anything are extremely practical.

This latest round of foolishness concerning those Japanese Islands is something the Military Leadership of the PLN...Peoples Liberation Navy....not only want no part of but as well the Chinese Naval Leadership have desperately attempted to convince the Chinese Communist Party Leadership to avoid.

You see the Chinese Naval Leadership KNOWS that this whole thing is pure idiocy as they know any actual attempt of any Offensive Chinese Naval Operation upon any level could result in the destruction of the entire Surface and Underwater Chinese Naval Force.

Unfortunately it is a common practice by the Chinese Communist Party Leadership which has a branch known as the Peoples Revolutionary Ideology Division which places IDEOLOGY OFFICERS upon all Chinese Naval Ships.

These Ideology Officers have been instructed to be moral boosters and attempt to do this by showing films and having on board Ship rallies that decry the inferiority of the Imperialistic Military Forces.

Most PLN Officers just CRINGE when such films are shown depicting CGI images of victorious Chinese Naval Forces destroying U.S. Carrier Groups or such Rallies occur in attempts to indoctrinate Sailors into believing their Navy is invincible.

Long Time Chinese Naval Leaders believe it to be much better for their Sailors to understand EXACTLY what they would be facing in confronting a U.S. Nuclear Carrier Group in battle as such knowledge would help the survivability of their ships.

From a purely military point of view, the South Koreans are fully capable of handling the NorKs by themselves. The inevitable destruction of Seoul would keep them preoccupied with rescue and relief missions for a few weeks, during which they would have to fight a holding action. After that Pyongyang would fall within a month.

It looks very odd to me in seeing that these little scenario clips only show the offensive stuff coming from China and NKorea. The part that is missing is our response. We know where every single piece of ordnance on earth is that could threaten us. It can't threaten us unless it is ordered to fire. When that order is given, we have a handle on that communication. That communication travels at the speed of light, so when an enemy commander tells his guy in the field to light off this 'n' that missile, he is telling us to fire the deterrent in exactly the same instant. The trouble with our response is that we don't just want to shoot down the missile. We want to take out the launch platform, and the guy who said "go", and his boss too. So much more expedient that way, and cheaper in the short run.
Trucker- have no fear about the US running out of diabolic devices. By the time any of this would come to bear, we will have lasers mounted on our combatant ships that will basically make the Vulcan 20mm cannons obsolete, with a systems and munitions cost savings of about 90% Rail guns are expected to go online in about 2016. Those things fire projectiles at around 14,k fps, which is too fast to catch, deter or intercept.
Relating to what AA says about the rank and file keeping up morale... The stuff they have is the most amazing thing that they have ever seen. This is like the local schoolyard bully thinking that he's UFC material....

These are the words of Chinese General Chen Bingde after being invited to watch U.S. war games and military drills.

    DECADES BEHIND THE WEST?

Chen played down Chinese military advances on his trip, telling the audience of U.S. military officers and faculty at the National Defense University the People's Liberation Army lagged at least 20 years behind developed Western nations.

"To be honest, I feel very sad after visiting (the United States), because I think, I feel and I know, how poor our equipments are and how underdeveloped we remain," Chen said.

Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff and Chen's host, stressed the importance of renewed dialogue to minimize the risk of misunderstanding

It took a build-up of offensive forces & propaganda campaigns for those wars to start in the first place. I'd like to see meaningful efforts by governments to eliminate militaries globally.

I don't think it's even within the scope of our species to evolve beyond the making and deployment of weapons. Some people joke that we were misnamed as "homo sapiens" and should be called "homo fabricans".
Look at everything we do and make. One could say that it's all motivated by an innate drive to build and defend fortified cities. Even when we're not at war, we're constantly in competition. George assembled 73 widgits yesterday, and I only muddled through 71. Brand X had a 1.7% jump in share dividends, eclipsing Brand M. It's our whole thing!

I agree with that, this is why Japan and the others want us to keep our bases there. I feel bad for China though, considering what they suffered at the hands of the Japanese. The atrocities that were committed on them were worse than anything the Nazis could have dreamed up. I do like the Japanese on a personal level, but if they went to war I certainly wouldn't be rooting for them. If a nation isn't willing to admit and confront its past like Japan, then it really hasn't changed.

I'm confident that we have the basic capacity to accomplish this, though it certainly would be a challenge. Still, we've had treaties to cut down on nukes already. Will it really take so much for nations to agree to mutual reduction of standing armies?

The real hurdle I see is in the nature of our governments and elites. There are too many in positions of power who are prepared to foment war and send other people to their deaths in order to accomplish some goal. There remains too much dog-eat-dog thinking among business and national leadership, it seems. It all just seems to come down to the most powerful yet sociopathic members of our species. As long as they are able to gain power and use it to turn others into their pawns, warfare will remain a sad reality. Thus many suffer and die prematurely for the twisted designs of a few.

Well....IF we are around long enough meaning if we are not wiped out by war or disease or a comet or asteroid...etc....we will evolve to a point eventually to no longer we a warlike species.

Being able to create and understand a Unified Field Theory would go a long way.

Japan is a much different society than it was during WWII.

You really can't hold the current living population of Japan responsible for what the mostly all dead now WWII Japanese Military did.

Well...here is the thing...as I have stated I am..."CIVILIAN"...not Military because I never could stand taking orders.

I have thought a lot about whether or not some JOBS were ones I would agree to do and I have turned down many.

But the thing is there is what you WISH was the reality and then there is REALITY.

So you can either go live in a wooden shack deep in the woods and with the aid of some tech. post complaints and Utopian ideological concepts and ideals....OR....you can get involved and actually try to work within the existing systems and use such systems to effect change for the better.

I have had MANY people post to me....How can YOU believe you have the right to decide what should happen?

Believe me....once a person and I mean anyone, you, me, even the most Pacifistic person on Earth comes face to face with a reality where if they don't do something so many people die and if they do actually do something either no people or less people die....ANYONE will weigh the options and then pull the trigger.

You can actually look at my posting history and see I posted that I was sitting in the belly of a C-5 all day until I was told to stand down.

Very shortly after this the Kerry/Russian proposal to offer Assad the deal that if he gave up all his Chemical Weapons no Military action would follow.

I am not convinced Assad will give them all up.

The Japanese did about the worst things that can be done against the Chinese in the rape of NanKing.
Comparable to the things that our American "heroes" did to the Indians. Well, maybe not that bad....
The thing with our evolution is that some serious Eugenics would have to be enforced over a fairly long period to reduce our will to violence and conflict. Even at that, we would have to reach a point in medical tech. where we identify the mechanisms within the brain that contribute to that dysfunction, and either modify the way these mechanisms come to form, or surgically change the structure of the brain in infancy.
That all has to wait for a form of Gov. that is both conducive to the quality of life for humans, and yet able to exert that level of control. Not in this current iteration of the way things are....

Well Human violent tendencies are very connected to drive and will and creativity as it is a part of our base animal instincts so I don't think it would be a good thing to fool around with such traits as we could all end up never wanting to do, build or create anything.

War and the desire to obtain power can be eliminated if such power and control can no longer be possible.

War has always been about the struggle over resources thus if we were to develop and understand the Unified Field Theory which would allow us to convert energy directly into any form of matter or the reverse....such things as wealth and power go out the window as if a person can be supplied an unlimited free source of energy and convert it into anything they desire....no needs means no struggle for resources mean no ability to control or hold power.
