Are EU elections useful? If we consider the real power of elected European representatives in comparison [when not in contrast] with the power of the notorious Commission ... which is the real weight of the votes of the European electors?
The low interest in this poll is anyway a clear indication of something: that EU elections are not that interesting!
People are upset, as there are about 20 checks in place that require to be passed until inauguration. The hyper representation that is involved in the process, so people are doubting whether the they truly have a say. Its the electoral college x10
You made a mistake, EU is not a democracy but feudalism. Hey do you know that Mr. Draghi can murder you and get away with it ? ... heck not only Mr. Draghi but any head of a national bank in member states have complete law immunity , all members of EU's financial commissions too . If this is a democracy i am virgin Mary Napoleon . Elections have a meaning if we do our best to sent anti-EU representatives in the parliament with the will to dissolve it .
The conceptualization of democracy in EU is variable, but always at advantage of some "actors", the usual ones. Overall Germans, some French ... Angela is leading the continent, with a good relationship with Russia [with good peace of American administration ...]. The main problem is ... towards which horizon is Frau Angela guiding us?
Sure a birthing democracy with a clear "business attitude" which affects also the approach to the construction of the democratic system. Let's consider for a while the Union Flag. Despite the number of countries members of the Union has been increasing, the number of stars on the flag is anyway the same, 12. This is a clear example of efficiency ...
There are no Germans or French but crazy neoliberals of any nationality . Frau Angela is leading the union either to its renewal or to its dissolution , time will tell . From my communist perspective all this "Crisis" thing is the best that could ever happen since European societies have start filtering the center-something trash out .
The British especially don't seem to be interested in the EU Elections. Look how low the UK's turnout is for these elections compared to other countries: http://www.ukpolitical.info/european-parliament-election-turnout.htm Still, no matter how many vote tomorrow UKIP will still win, not only in the EU Elections but maybe in the local elections as well. - - - Updated - - - They won 13 seats in the last EUSSR Elections. I think they'll win a lot more than that this time.
Just a note, in Italy the left is presenting a Greek candidate, Tsipras. Since in Italy he is not exactly the most known politician ever, this case gives me the occasion to add a consideration about these international candidacies. Are they so effective? For example, are there around, in other EU countries, Italian candidates?
Tsipras is the representative of European Left party in the upcoming elections and it just happens to be Greek . Talking nationalities in EU parliament is pointless .
Absolutely pointless, but at least I would appreciate to know the candidates I am called to vote [or not, of course].
The impression given by the electoral campaign here is just that we can chose to vote for Tsipras ... it's reading the list of the candidates that you realize [as it's obvious ...] that they are all Italian ...
