We should ban anal sex

I propose that American states enact legislation banning anal sex. Anal sex is a known health hazard, which multiplies the transmission rates of STDs. The public has every right to act on these concerns. True, sex of any sort is risky, but it can be likened to the difference between normal driving (an inherently risky activity) and getting behind the wheel and acting a fool (i.e. reckless driving).

Many will probably say, "but anti-sodomy laws are always struck down". Well, here is the difference: oral sex has not been shown to carry such an outrageous risk factor, and therefore is not included in this proposed legislation. Without a valid public health concern, the only reason for the outlawing of oral sex is the legislation of morality/ pushing of religious views. This clearly violates separation of church and state. So uncouple oral from anal sex in new legislation, and speak no more of "sodomy".

But, some will say, this is discriminatory! Not so. Heterosexuals together with all LBGTs will all be bound by this law. True, homosexual men currently are the disproportionate practitioners of this act, and they pay a disproportionately high price for doing so (suffering many times the rate of HIV and other STDs). Hence, gay men will disproportionately benefit from ending the practice. This disproportionate benefit can be justified, however, in light of the fact that "MSM" are a protected class, and therefore deserve extra help to combat their special challenges.

To the OP, the very idea is morally outrageous. And it would be another move towards bigger government and a police state. The police are already out of control in some cases, particular with the war on drugs which is equal to a war on cigarettes and alcohol. This idea of banning anal sex is sickening. Do you want this country to become more like the Islamic Republic of Iran?

There are things people do, that are far riskier than anal sex; really. Should we BAN all of those things too? While there is no Constitutional right to participate in and enjoy anal sex, I seriously doubt that justifying such a ban in the shadow of the same, will be warranted.

Just out of curiosity, who's going to sit in the bedroom with you and make sure that doesn't happen? I already stated in the OP why this law is different. It is a public health law, not a sodomy law.

The alternative, which I support, would be to do away with big government altogether, so that if someone gets an STD from their risky behavior, then the consequences are theirs alone. As long as tax dollars are being used to support indigents who make bad decisions, then society has a valid interest in regulating behavior which costs the taxpayer money.

What an outrageous false choice. Historically, the US has had anti-sodomy laws, which go further than what I propose. And we were not "like Iran" because of it.

In the name of Libertarianism and American Freedom, we should make it illegal to engage in anal sex WITHOUT a condom.

 

If Obama suggested this, maybe it would have a chance at gaining acceptance. They like Obama *that* much. In virtually every other situation, this is 1 of the only 2 things (the other being the taking of drugs) that progressives wouldn't allow the Government to ban. It's under these two things, and these two things only, that they claim to want "freedom".

Actually anal sex is no more a transmitter of STDs than vaginal sex and homosexual men are not disproportionate practicioners of it.
