Its the number of people in the workforce...........try to keep up. Lowering the UE rate by magically claiming people stopped looking for work is just fuzzy math at work.

But congratulations on finally getting to 2008 numbers..........

funny how they blame Obama for everything but when something good happens it's never because of Obama

Try to keep up. The number of total jobs isn't the number of people in the workforce. It's the total number of jobs. The total number of jobs has nothing to do with the LFPR or the number of discouraged workers.

No, what's funny is how they want to take credit for "good news" and Blame Republicans for all the bad.........if this report was different, they would be trying to explain how it was (x) the Republicans did that caused it.

Sure, there are lots of ambiguous and vague words in the English language.

    Love the semantics.

How do you determine if someone is not employed for economic reasons?

    Do you need this job?

    Naw, dude.

    Check.

I would be so much more impressed if the numbers of jobs 'created' was more than the number of folk who gave up looking consistently.

Feel free to point out where in the OP I give Obama credit for the good news or blame Republicans for bad.

Exactly my thoughts. Let me help you out with your previous post.

Those terms can be confusing to the uninformed.

    It's far greater.

Since Jan 2010, we've had 9.3 million additional private sector jobs. Since that time, the number of "discouraged workers" - folks who are not in the labor force but want a job, has increased by about 500,000.

I will be satisfied when we have the same number of employed people, the same participation right, as of january 2008. or job numbers to compensate for a lower participation rate.

until then, we are still behind.

Obama had absolutely nothing to do with any job creations. You can thank private companies and the Federal Reserves monetary policy.

Ummm..this is some fascinating math. The difference between 66 and 62.5 is , most certainly NOT, ".05%"

    Did you miss the following:
The situation is made more dire as unemployed workers are left without resources. Nearly 5 million Americans will lose out on unemployment benefits over the course of 2014, Stone predicted, due to Congress failing to extend emergency jobless benefits in December.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. The labor force may be shrinking for a very natural reason — baby boomers are retiring. Some analysts estimate that retirement accounts for 40-60% of labor force shrinkage. 

Additionally, young people are studying longer. As higher education and unpaid internships become the norm, fewer young folks are moving directly from high school into the workforce.

Of course, it’s impossible to tell exactly to what extent these factors affect employment numbers. Until more time passes, economists — along with everyone else — must wait to see"
Read it slowly again, or is it for the first time, either way, try again.
Oh and you can thank the Repubs for killing of extended State and Federal unemployment benefits, must be because they care so much for those suffering, Compassionate Conservatives my Arse.

True, but he (along with the Repubs) did save many jobs by bailing out companies. Interesting to see Republicans admit that the government does not really creat jobs but then scream about the unemployment rate as if it is the Presidents fault, something ain;t right there, is it.

For economic reasons means there was either a temporary cut back in hours or the person wants full time work but can only find part time work.
