Why do many if not most black people have lighter or even white skin on the palms of their hands and bottoms of their feet?

This suggests that black people may have indeed evolved from lighter skinned homo sapiens, who's skin was exposed to extreme sunlight but hands and feet had much less exposure, so stayed lighter.

Not really. Animals also have different colored "palms and soles" than the rest of the skin.

Actually it is the other way around, genetic research has already proven that and the trail leads to Africa as the home of all mankind.

which is what I believed happened...being at one time fur covered our ancestors likely had light skin...as we lost our fur our skin grew darker to protect us from uv burns, palms and soles aren't readily exposed to sunlight, constantly lose a lot of cells and develop calluses...as we moved into cooler regions clothing became a necessity and darker skin was of no advantage...

Well it is an interesting thought. But at this moment in science(well as of last year) the consensus is that homo sapiens were originally dark skinned, and then became light skinned as they migrated out of Africa- then became dark skinned again when groups moved to lower latitudes again- like in Southern India and Australia.

Regarding the hands and feet- I haven't heard anything regarding why there is typically less melanin in those areas- have you tried researching the issue?

you are under the failed impression that all homo sapiens and our hominid ancestors in Africa, always had black skin...regardless of climate changes.

He was suggesting they were white and that is simply not the case.

Those that were traced back to using genetics, the closest to our orgins are Black, do you think they somehow changed from light skinned to dark skinned and back to light skinned? Really?

life originated from the oceans and them some returned to the seas(whales)...there is no reason skin colour can't change from dark to light to dark a number of times...random mutation, enviromental adaptation, sexual selection and gentic drift allow for an infinite variety of possibilities...

You'll have demonstrate where its confirmed we were originally dark skinned, thete is no DNA record for that that I'm aware of...

Those they have traced back to as the group with the most orginal genes are in Africa and they are Black. Why don;t you show me where anyone has changed from white to black skinned, genetics shows it happened the other way round but none show any lightskinned peoples changing to a darker color, got some data?

shave a chimpazee's dark fur and you'll find light skin...we were like our cousins likely light skinned and only became dark in regions where uv protection was needed...fur is a hindrance to endurance hunters like ourselves, it interferes with body cooling...as we evolved and lost our fur a change of skin colour would've accompanied the change...

"they have traced"? Really...show me the DNA studies that go back 5 million years when we diverged from from our primate cousins that verify your claims, it doesn't exist....

My data is all around us, people change skin colour with every generation with sexual selection...no dna data required just your eyes...

This link supports my pov that I've being claiming for 25yrs, dark skin is an adaptation to UV damage and light skin is not an adaptation to vitamin d deficiencies...the link disagrees with me as vitamin-d...vitamin d deficincies are found in equatorial regions as well as norther latitudes, extreme northern latitude inuit hunter gathers gained their vitamin d through diet...

And being that we all originated in Africa means .................................we were all Black. Thanks for playing.

as I suspected you got nothing...only verified you don't understand genetics or adaptation at all...

NO ONE! claimed we didn't' originate in africa...you're only trying to deflect because you have no clue what you're talking about...time to go back to school for you...

I'm sorry Casper but that is false. Early African hominids were white just as chimps are. The mutation for darker melanin came as a result of losing fur.

You did not watch or read anything I presented to your question, they all lead back to Africa, which white African Tribe would it be you say we came from. I have forgotten more on the topic than you will ever know. As for deflecting, I bow to the master of deflection, YOU.

    Prove it.

True, and we came from a very sunny and hot place, hence we where what color?................... I'll wait.

I just did Casper. You can look up the oxford genetics study yourself.

pure straw man arguement on your part no one has claimed man didn't originate in africa...which has nothing to do with the op...you're either being dishonest or ?

And yeah I read your links there's nothing there in regards to original skin colour as to when we made the transition from fur covered primate to naked primate...

many chimps and other primates have lighter skin under their fur.

its only common sense to understand that with fur or thick hair blocking the sun, there is no need whatsoever to have dark skin to protect one from the suns UV rays.

dark skin clearly came as homo sapiens or our ancestors lost their fur and thick hair, while living in very hot areas.

but it is possible that europeans and asians are descended from primates who moved to europe and asia before they lost all their hair, when africa was less hot, etc..

No one will ever credit you for giving a lot thought before you post...

Know more than me? :roflol:...an unfinished degree in anthropology/archeology(yeah that includes genetics and evolution/adaptation)...a career change ended that but my daughter picked up where I left off and has double degrees so I keep up with the science...

Yes, by all means ignore the fact that there are no, and have never been, any white tribes of Africans, at least none that anyone has ever been able to prove existed and no one here has proven any such nonsense. The people of the region that are closest to the orginal gene pool are Black, but, yes by all means, ignore what you want so you can believe in whatever fantasy you wish. Jeeez. Why do I bother, your mind is closed and once that is established it is pointless to attempt further discussion. Have fun in your fantasy world.

still waiting for your claims of genetic study proving our ancestors were always black, how long should we wait?...still waiting for you point out which poster claimed our ancestors werent from africa? How long should we wait for that?...

Gotta feelin' we'll be waiting a very long time....but I posted a link which supported my position, which you ignored...
