Will humans ever be able to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that a creator god or creator gods cannot possibly exist?

    I don't think so.

Then it would end free will if it did.

It would put an end to any freedom of thought and there'd be no atheists or other unbelievers left.

Sure. After they're dead they'll have first hand proof.

Until then we have a sale on Salvation! We haven't seen Salvation this low in years, and we may never see prices like this again! So you better come on down and get some of this Salvation before it's all sold out! :blankstare:

If God or Jesus were real they would not agree with organized religion. Or most of the teachings.

The Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

Jews believe that they are God's Chosen People.

Hindu's believe in Ganesh and other Gods.

And on and on. We can't prove that all religions are wrong, but it is logical that only one can be correct.

So we should be able to state conclusively that at least the great majority of religious people are living in a fantasy world.

No....firstly, one cannot prove or disprove a negative.

Secondly...even if you could the very devout do not generally accept proof in the first place.

What difference would it make? Those that have the NEED for "something" will always believe in whatever they want to make up....and those that need proof still won't have it..

Certainly true of the hardcore atheists here, some of the most closed minded people I know.

Depends on how specific the religious beliefs are. You can look at Christianity and dismantle it by going form claim to claim proving it to be false (which isn't a hard thing to do).
    Global flood, no evidence.
Genesis 1:1 and 2:1 contradict each other, and both are out of order when compared to what is known to be true.
    Pigeons blood curing leprosy.
    etc.

While an entirely unfalsifiable belief like diesm is much more difficult to conclusively disprove because they do not make specific claims. "A deity created the universe and does not interfere with humanity..."... how would that practically differ from reality? The claim is entirely unfalsifiable. So why bother trying to disprove a benign belief?

It is extremely hard to accept proof that does no exist...theist proofs are not scientific proof.

No. But the existence of any God can't ever be proved either. That is why being an Agnostic is the rational position.

Since when are 'theist proof' required to meet the standard of 'scientific proof'? Is there a law, code, rule, regulation, statute or other document which mandates that theist proof must meet scientific standards? Remember, it is the theist that must live with the proof that they have,,, not the scientists nor any other secular oriented person or group of persons.

I think it is obvious to anyone with ounce of a sense it is a fool errand. Anyway, why would you want to do it in the first place.

We refer to it as the scientific method.

To use this method we need to have data to examine for validity...ancient words written by people does not allow this, and that is literally EVERYTHING to examine.

There is nothing to take this hypothesis to theory...it has been looked at for thousands of years.

Nope. There's a better chance of proving that probability does not exist.

Who said or what law said that the Bible or anything pertaining to religion needs the approval of science or the scientific method? I know from study that such philosophers as Descartes made mention of God in some of his writings, however he also was involved in that strange system of 'logic' and was attempting to form a "logical proof" for the existence of God, however, 'logical proof' is not necessarily 'scientific proof'. His 'logical proof' (as it may have been) was also not subject to scientific testing, or replication in some laboratory using specialized equipment... so his method would not meet scientific scrutiny either. It seems that science and/or the scientific community have simply developed a method wherein they (members of that community) can arbitrarily rule out things that they do not want to consider else things that they know they cannot refute using such scientific testing as required by the scientific method. Oh well.... science can never know all that there is to KNOW.

What hypothesis are you talking about? Has an official hypothesis been submitted for review by the scientific community? What has been looked at for thousands of years?

    I DO.....
and as you are dealing with me here, that is enough.

Just as you seem to think your opinion must be taken as truth....such is mine.

As I have made no "DEMANDS"....and nothing I provide means anything to you.....there is no point in continuing.

I don't think anything can ever be conclusively proved or disproved, let alone an ultimate question like this one. Nothing is absolute, irrefutable, set-in-stone fact - there will always be ways to disagree with anything. Quite simply, I think God exists to those who believe in God and doesn't exist to those who don't believe in God. And anyway, why would we want to conclusively prove the "correctness," or "incorrectness," of religion? Diversity of opinion is a valuable asset to society and its progress, and both belief and disbelief have benefits to the believer/disbeliever.

a religion can be disproved by disproving the stories.. disproving there was a God no one has ever seen... that would be as hard as proving there are not invisible ghosts all around you....

On further examination, the OP asks a different question than the thread title does. Gods cannot be proven or dis-proven but some religions can be dis-proven by noting how reality contradicts certain religious claims. See post #9 for an illustration.
