What that means is that they were brainwashed during the first years on the planet and that they ignore any logical argument against what they believe. It's not rocket science.....it's kept mythology and hearsay alive for several thousand years. One generation brainwashes the next.

Stories about miracles, virgin birth, resurrection were only witnessed by a very few individuals when studied as a historical fact. There were six recognized historians alive during the "Jesus Ministry." Not a one of them documented the first miracle.......just his close friends and good buddies.

Meh. I don't equate going through the motions with having strong faith. Not believing in Santa has done little to diminish the Christmas shopping season.

if people (both Christians and non-Christians) would live as good people rather than spout and spew out of their mouths that which they can speak but not practice in their lives... the world would be much better off.

It is not what you say, or read or where you go to worship that makes you a good Christian... it is what you do. And today, most 'Christians' don't do as many good things as they think they do.

I think many are WEAK in their faith...or atleast in ways to defend it.

S'why we see so often how the Christians on this forum try to dodge and deflect, change the subject, and resort to personal insults. When their beliefs are questioned...doubt emerges in themselves. This angers them and they turn the anger outwards to the people asking the questions.

I've met Christians who never read the Bible, never go to church, and aren't really good people who will swear that they're strong in their faith. The sad thing is, they may well believe it.

Yup, people suck regardless of self imposed title or a title that the neighbor hangs on you.

Oh come on... you know he's referring to one's childhood.

When he goes on to say "one generation brainwashes the next"... well... it's probably a good assumption to make.

Why should they have to defend their faith?

It's a faith. By definition, faith is a belief not based on proof.

Now, when people actually feel the need to defend their faith...that's when it becomes apparent how weak it was to begin with.

His original statement in relevant part was " they were brainwashed during the first years on the planet"
My question stands. If they were not on the planet then where were they prior to the indoctrination period.
As for you speaking about generations influencing later generations, leads into the infinite regression of who was the first to receive an indoctrination that could be handed down to the next generation?

Sure, it's far more plausible he means they came from another planet, and were indoctrinated as part of the immigration process...versus thinking he was using figure of speech to refer to one's childhood.

Did I suggest anything regarding a specific location when I asked the question of where they came from? If that answer of yours (referring to another planet) is the best your imagination can accomplish, then live with that imagination.

Are you familiar with the Food and Drug Administrations rules pertaining to the amount of foreign matter that is allowed by law to be found in processed foods? Then you should also get acquainted with checking your purchased food products before ingesting them.

I was a Christian once, I think the being upset with people for questioning your beliefs and making you question them too..... is a normal part of the path we all take to finding the truth

Santa is one of the best young lessons for teaching children this....

They drop in for an hour and a half on Sunday morning, drop off their tithes and return home via a restaurant to feel good about themselves for another week. The money they give is used for buildings, building expansions, maintenance, preacher's home and salary, stained glass, steeples, oak or mahogany pews, expensive musical instruments and sound systems, youth programs, religious retreats, missionaries, 10% for the denomination headquarters, etc. The Poor Be Damned!!

It's not Sunday that much anymore... It's Saturday, so they can drive down the shore (NJ lingo), gamble at the casinos and sleep late on Sunday. Gotta wonder who is worse, the clergy or the congregation. One wants all the money, the other all the exceptions.

Oh...when it comes to the worst.......the Catholic church has them all beat. Constantine revived that dying myth in the fourth century, wrote the rules, set up shop and now the church has hundreds of billions of jewelry, gold, silver, fine arts and some of the most expensive holdings of any in the world. Kind of strange when you really think about it. The church's requirement for celibacy for their priests and bishops has been responsible for more rape than any other up front reason in the history of mankind. They're all guilty because those with the power to do so swept it under the rug for centuries.

Strength in faith to me is subjective. I know some Christians who seem handicapped by their dogma while others are stronger for it. I think dogma is fine up to the point that one tries to get me to live by, or judges my by their dogma.

A current poll claims that 40% of the respondents don't believe that Obama was born in America. So saying that Most Christians are strong in their faith just indicates that they have a serious problem dealing with reality, especially if they don't believe that Obama was born in the US. Sometimes it's best to just say that some people are stupid.

What specifically does being born in America have to do with Christianity or even being a Christian that would enable you to associate the findings of that poll with either Christianity or Christians and the faith involved?

Somehow I've just never been able to wrap my arms around supposed words of wisdom which came from people who believed in witches, thought the earth was flat, schit on the ground and wiped on their hands.

    Purposeful Ignorance.

When one ignores information based on preconceived belief which forces them to dismiss a recognized reality which has been proven accurate through research and evaluation, they are living in purposeful ignorance.
