Is a regular checking account that expensive? My Chase account is free, and I've never paid a fee for any checking or savings account. Maybe I've just been lucky.
OP commentary.... You must have missed it.. Dont worry most people dont read hers. - - - Updated - - - I know a few years back BoA added all kinds of fees. Why i moved to a credit union.
WalMart isn't forcing anyone to patronize their stores. You and your compatriots have the power to bring WalMart to its knees......Don't shop there. You don't even have to get off your duffs and vote. Just 'don't do' something. If you are really in the majority, it will become obvious. Let's see you WalMart haters actually do something other than broadcast your hate for WalMart on Internet blogs and forums. Now GO and.......Don't Shop!
Well I might want to debate with you on that. I love Walmart but not for their groceries...the shelves aren't kept up, the meat is sky high (but good quality) and its a mad house. My husband does the shopping and that's where he goes, but not me. But I will say---their Great Value generic brand is really good quality--from frozen vegies to speghetti to anything so far!
Ditto. I get generic meds typically for $4/30 day supply. Some are more. But way, way cheaper than Walgreens or CVS, for example. And while there, I pick up other things. Going tomorrow, in fact. I don't buy their meat. Other than that, it's the same stuff as everywhere else. We have a locally owned store that is generally the same or cheaper than WalMart for name brand groceries and fresh produce. And a much better selection. But for household items, you can't beat WalMart. It's nice to be able to do pretty much all your shopping in one place. To get Plavix and Soft Scrub in one stop kinda blows my mind, lol.
What absolutely meaningless tripe. You might as set a record for TomFitz nonsense. At least for the time being.
No, no, and no. I have a perfectly legitimate and non-insulting question to ask you. Do you have downs syndrome, honestly? Look at your comments. You slam Walmart for being "mean to poor people" ...for doing something that will actually help poor people save money ...then tell banks they need to do the same thing ...that you're bashing Walmart for doing. You whine and cry and complain and make 20 posts a day minimum about "evil corporations" and their imagined slights and when one of them does something that's actually good for the community ...you still find some way to bash them. Amazing.
Me and my cohorts? I don't shop at Wal Mart, and I do vote. And Wal Mart could vastly increase their power by doing what they are doing. The won't need Wall Street., and they'll own Main Street.
I love Walmart. They have always helped the poor, Liberals hate them because they are successful at it.
agree.... good for the working poor, but the no fee for bounced checks I do not predict will last long .
So, low income customers may be willing to bank at WalMart rather than a major national bank. In some locations, smaller local banks can be hard to find, especially willing to offer a service to those low income shoppers. Good for WalMart. This is interesting as opening a bank account is going to require a valid ID. Does it mean that those citizens who do NOT have a valid ID can't open a bank account at WalMart? What's a voter to do? Maybe WalMart can't institute a shopper/banker/voter ID plan. Something it seems ACORN (by any other name) hasn't been willing to do for the more inconvenienced citizen. Again, WalMart stepping up to fill the gap.
The ignore button works wonders! I haven't dealt with a bank in as long as I can remember. I currently have 2 CU accounts; had 3 up to a few months ago and finally closed one out. None of them have ever charged me a cent. They each offer $1000 overdraft protection, which I've never used, but it's there just in case. I'm sure they would charge for using it, but having the accounts and the protection, as well as debit cards, is 100% free. I remember awhile back banks were charging $5 a month to have a debit card. I don't know if they still do.
Fees are going to vary by bank... all of them. I opened an account at a regional bank with a sizeable deposit and had no fees. A couple of years later the bank announced it would start charging a fee for regular accounts that didn't meet a set monthly deposit amount. I promptly moved my funds to a much more local state bank with no fees. I've hardly ever seen another customer there but I bank mostly online. The staff is fairly friendly and I had an easy time borrowing funds to put a new roof on my house. I have no fees for debit card use. I usually get extra funds when grocery shopping or the banks aTm. I never use another banks aTm.
Well I don't trust Walmart to serve the financial needs of the poor for very long, and I never did trust banks to serve the financial needs of the poor. We just need to keep an eye on it, that's all.
No I wrote 'compatriots'....Fellow countrymen... Well bless yer heart. Ya'lls makin' a lil' 'ol statement. What 'power' is that? You do know we have laws against such things as market takeovers?
Which means you agree that Walmart caters to low income shoppers. How does that make them bad people? Isn't that the kind of company you Liberals should be thankful for? Giving the poor more value for their limited dollars? If they paid their employees more, they would have to raise their prices. So you help a hundred thousand employees and hurt twenty five million poor customers. Of course I'm sure your answer is pay them more and let the owners and stock owners take the loss. But that isn't how our system works. Without the Walmarts, many of the poor would be a lot poorer.
Getting involved by managing money with a group of people who have a history of not managing their money well. No good deed goes unpunished.
I have to agree with you there. That's the reason I said earlier "Walmart will have to be careful though if they don't charge for bounced checks. That could come back to hurt them." Banks make big bucks on people who aren't poor that have a habit of cashing checks with not enough money in the bank to cover them. I can see that problem only getting worse with the poor.
Certainly not mine. Making a statement such as I did is not asking for an answer to who's fault it is. Any bungling blue eyed jock-off can see that without you making an insignificant statement like you did.

Keep an eye on them? That's what the founding fathers wanted us to do with the government and we've seen how well that works. I trust business more than government. They can't do the government "civil seizures", they can't shoot you, they can't put you in prison, they can't take your children, and your relationship with any business is voluntary. For the pro-government folks income tax is considered voluntary. I buy food every Sunday for a poor family here in Mexico. There's a widow, three sons, two adopted sons who are actually nephews. We've got two kids through school, one in college, one in high school. We don't go to a fancy grocery to buy organic foods. We don't go to supermarkets, either. We got to Sam's Club and buy in bulk. I get to share so what little I need is cheaper, too. After Sam's we stop and WalMart and buy some of the things they don't sell at Sam's Club. I realize that liberals would like for me to no longer have an option to do less expensive grocery shopping. For liberals it's food stamps or nothing. Of course, the family and I cheat. We don't buy frozen pizzas and microwave dinners. We don't sit around whining that we can't use food stamps at McDonalds or Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's hard to believe the shameless on the left call themselves "pro-choice" when in everything except killing innocents they're anti-choice.
