'Annie' remake: casting of black lead provokes negative Twitter posts

Have you ever met a Persian Mr.Sunday? You do know they are Aryans right?

Also all the good characters turned into black folk, but the pratagonist is still white .

 

I thought Persians were Iranians. Yes I have met some Iranians/Persians/whatever. They don't have white skin, more of an olive/light brownish skin tone.

 

Persians/Iranians are considered Caucasian..........

 

I disagree. This current version of Annie is simply a modern day version of the vernable comic strip that was started in 1924. It does not matter what the color of skin the person playing annie, or Daddy Warbucks or anyone else as long as the core essence of the story is maintained.

Furthermore, we are not in an ugly time here. People have forgotten their hisotroy of what this nation has been through. And today does not compare to the Great Depression of the 1930's, the Jim Crow era of the 1950's and 60's, the severe recession of the 1980's, and so forth. Today is not an ugly time. It is glorified, mystified, and horrorified on the internet. And that disconnect is what is sad about today's society.

 

They are Iranian, root of Iran comes from Aryan. Most Persians are light skinned, some even have blue eyes. So your comparison to a white person playing a slightly darker skinned white person makes no sense.

 

Actually Iranians are not as light as you think. Many of them are dark brown skinned as well. Some are light. I live with some in my area and they don't look "white". Skin colour is not only the determining factor. Facial features come into consideration as well.

So my point still stands. ;D

To contribute to the subject, this little girl was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild. I enjoyed the movie and I think she's a terrific choice to play Annie. I won't take Twitter remarks about her race seriously.

 

This is all no different than the dumbasses who whined and cried when they saw John Boyega pop up in the Star Wars Episode 7 trailer.

 

Yes there are darker skinned Iranians, but for most part they are light skinned. Your point is like saying a German cannot play an Italian in a movie, that is ridiculous. Its far different when say a Black person plays Julius Ceasar , or a Chinese guy plays Ghandi.

So what if there are minor differences? My point still stands. No one complained when a white man played a Persian/Iranian man. So why are they complaining when it is a black girl playing a role usually played by a white girl. Obviously there is an element of racism here. People are not used to seeing Black people play certain characters.

Most Americans I bet would not be able to even distinguish between Arabs, Iranians and Pakistanis.

BTW I'm not saying a person from a certain ethnic background cannot play another role which is of a different ethnic background.

 

Never watched the original. Never cared to. Musicals freak me the hell out. However I see nothing wrong with this. I think they could have cast someone other then Jamie Foxx but that's a personal preference. Besides if you're okay with Westside Story then you have no reason to complain about this.

You must not see what transpires in some of our cities on pretty much a daily basis since Ferguson? I didn't compare it to be worse/better than other times, but it's still an ugly time with racial tensions growing.

Their casting choices for the entire film leave so much to be desired...one would have to think they're only trying to produce a movie to keep the FF rights.

If he's doing a Han Solo/Luke in a stolen trooper suit it makes sense.

If we are now seeing an actual Black Stormtrooper...then something doesn't add up as they're supposed to be clones and should all look lik eTemuera Morrison. Seeing an inconsistency pop up out of nowhere, and wondering whats up...shouldn't be considered a dumbass or whiner.

It goes against everything we've been told so far, and is curious. Unless of course he stole that suit for something in the plot...like Luke and Han did on the Death Star. But we wont know for a bit.

The stormtroopers were clones originally, but the Empire stopped cloning and starting drafting people from everywhere when they realized clones become susceptible to disobedience. Of course I only learned about that from playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 and that is probably not canon.

But this is a new story and they very well could've still drafted him, or be a Luke/Han fakeout trooper.

Yeah, time will tell. I just hope Disney/ Abrams doesn't screw these up. Im a bit nervous about them. I didnt care for some of the stuff in that trailer honestly....like that ridiculous lightsaber.

 

I don't think so. I have seen the previews and read the critics on the movie. It is funny and it relates to today for the audience. It will do well and is a lot funnier movie than the Dumb and Dumber go to North Korea, aka The Intercview.

The difference between those 2 movies of course is one is an established property with known characters, and a cast that doesnt fit them. But hey, i'm no Nastradamus....maybe people will eat it up. Im still siding with it's going to bomb but..Heck...a few people bought the Pontiac Aztek.


It's too bad too because this is the third try at a Franchise that should be like printing money. Great Characters, a huge cast of great villians and stories to choose from.
