White Leader Limbaugh Befuddled By Bond

So called "Bond purists" would have been angry with the Connery casting since he's Scottish and not British. Anybody complaining only about casting Elba (who is British) as Bond is simply a racist. After by simply reading through this thread, it's become quite obvious this forum is littered with them.

 

I know that. It just feels that if they ever made him American it would be to pander to a certain base. He belongs to England and I completely respect that.

 

Here's the thing. Remember when Amy Pascal was outed as a racist by the Sony Hackers? Who did she go to for absolution? That's right - Sharpton.Who did the Hamilton family reach out to for help speading their message when Dontre died? If you guessed Jesse ackson, you guessed correctly. Don't think Rush is a spokesman for white issues in any capacity that parallels Jesse and Al. Not even close. Possibly the only one who wants the job is David Duke, but there's issues with that.

 

Perhaps conservatives here concerned about the constant and unchanging "purity" of a fictional, non-American (YUCK!) character would be only happy if 90 year old Sean were still playing 007 and acting as if it were an Austin Powers '60's time travel flick.

 

Who is Pascal and Hamilton? Seriously. Never heard of them. I don't know any black folks who consider Al, Jesse or anyone else black for that matter to be their 'leaders'. Any more than Rush, Beck, Coulter are your 'leaders'. You may have unintentionally destroyed your own argument there. HAS Bond's life really changed in any way since the 60's? Some top-secret agent with a licence to kill working for Brit-Cit, and some people named Moneypenny and Q, that's been unchanged for what, fifty years now? Outside of the tech, women, and fashions, not much has changed.

The way James Bond has evolved over the years is that the name is a code name for the top British spy. In the past it has been played by an 3 Poms, one Scot, an Irishman and an Australian (Okay 4 Englishmen if you count David Niven) and that is only the COMMON accounting because if you include TV series, failed movies etc the count is much much higher

 

The Brits do not want to change it

A) because it is a working formulae
b) because there are people from some backward countries who think that all British spies are called James Bond. All a British spy has to do in those countries is have an ID that says "Not James Bond" and no-one would look at him/her - mind you there are other countries where they WOULD use "James Bond" as a cover because who would believe there would be someone in real life called James Bond who was a spy?
c) They LIKE the fact that Bonds American counterpart is always a somewhat bumbling supposed CIA agent who is always subservient to Bond

Id honestly be kind of upset if Blade was remade with a white character, there is not one that could portray that kind of swagger, couldn't take it seriously.

No problem with a black James Bond whatsoever. However the "Scotsman Connery" argument that keeps recurring in the thread is silly. It's like claiming a character born in Jersey couldn't play a NYC cop. It WOULD BE absurd to have a black Bond in certain historical contexts, just as it is absurd to consistently insert prominent female coder characters into the birth of Silicon Valley fictional treatments.

The real inanity of the thread is calling entertainer Limbaugh a "white leader" for troll/flamebait appeal. That's what the transparent intent of the thread is, not to have any discussion about Idris Elba as Bond. In that context, complaining about racism is hypocritical.

The Bond franchise was PCed up long ago in a very gratuitous way, probably to appeal to more of a female audience. It is what it is. All the classic Bond movies are full of tongue in cheek, locker room, chauvinistic humor, and lots of that humor was related to the cliché stuffiness of the bureaucratic powers compared to the devil may care, womanizing agent, in essence, every corporate tool's Saturday night fantasy in the 50s-70s. Classic Bond was more satirical than anything, the "cool" and "badass" elements were tangential. It was never meant, the movies anyway, to be taken seriously. All that went away long ago in favor of formulaic, very unclever dreck, so the bureaucrats won in the end. Hell, let children play Bond, or purple dinosaurs, doesn't matter as whatever special sauce was there was squeezed out ages ago.

I'd be really interested to see the reactions to a male cast of the next "Sex in the City" movie, with male characters behaving and speaking as those female characters did. The outraged reactions would be a real eye-opener in terms of leftist/Hollywood hypocrisy and status quo cultural hypocrisy generally.

Ian Fleming wrote 12 novels and 2 short story collections. Sean Connery (Best Bond) and Roger Moore (2nd Best Bond) after that I one or two and stopped watching them. Dalton, Brosnan and Craig, Booooo!

 

Bond is a fictional character, so why does it matter if it is him as a black actor? Does it really matter that much? If we are talking about actors being portrayed as a different race in non-fictional movies, then that is something different, because it is not accurate with what is true.
