Merkel has confronted Cameron with stats in regards to the old topic of benefits in the UK, a topic that has been reheated over and over again, most likely for political gain. The JSA UK has also released some very interesting stats that disprove myths about the numbers of EU nationals claiming benefits in the UK:

Yes, I was thinking about putting that in earlier. UKIP followers do not listen to the reality shown by studies that migrants give more than they receive.

Same when they talk about people not integrating and someone puts in some facts about the Brits in Spain!!

Glad I spared you the trouble.

Why is America the most powerful state on Earth? Cheap labor is actually an asset, not a burden for those states that know how to use it, how to expand sectors, how to keep people moving rather than keep its own unemployed on hold while 'protecting' them from others from 'the outside'. Laborers being separated from other laborers is a sign of a stagnant society, not an evolving one. When labor becomes too expensive to accept it for free, it means you as a state can't afford anything anymore.

If the immigrants in the UK are as many as some say, while complaining of how small the island is, why don't they put the Many immigrants on a project where they would excavate earth and drop it into the sea to make the island bigger? They did that with Manhattan in NYC. Why not in Britain, given the infinite immigrants? Maybe I'm exaggerating but you get the idea. Where there's openness, coexistence is the least of anyone's problems.

If the immigrants are as many as UKIP says, they would soon link UK to USA by land and Atlantic would disappear. Then they could build a highway (the largest in the world) and so on. There is no limit to what you can do with such limitless labor.

It seems the Brits had no trouble at all integrating in Ireland. For all the Brits who used to trash the Irish and call them useless, the stats speak for themselves! It's rather fortunate that we have these stats from governments including that of the UK. If it wasn't for the big bar at the very top, the next nice thing some would say would be that the 33k are from Scotland!

I find that notion really quite comical
No it's not. Foreign labour is only a benefit when there are more jobs than there are people able to fill them which isn't the case in the UK.
    I don't understand that one.
Now that is a bit silly. And when people use phrases like "this country is stuffed anyway" and the like what they mean is that there is too much competition for jobs and other social needs.
New York is actually smaller than London and the expense of physically expanding the country wouldn't justify the benefits but that is assuming that is a realistic idea
Yes there is openness in the UK but there's also economic reality.
    What?
Actually it's the other way round. The Irish are still migrating to Britain just as they have done for centuries.
    Who said that?
The ones you've posted? It shows that there are more people from outside the UK claiming benefits than Britons doing likewise.
    What?

It is comical if you put it peoplewise. But it's very true if put governmentwise and armywise.

And whose fault is that there aren't more jobs? The Germans always create new jobs without being a leftist society.

Tell that to the 6K Brits who are on benefits in Germany as opposed to 1K Germans in UK. Ask the Germans because they understand. They understood this as early as 1945... Luckily for the world. Never ever would they trigger a new war, even if they could, with odds in their favor.

They increased Manhattan by some 2% in just a few weeks! ... using just land excavated to build the Twin Towers. And it was residual... wasn't even a project in itself. You should tell what's realistic only after reading more on the issue. But you should stop taking things so literally!

Well, not really. Politically the US doesn't wield that much power and over the last decade has lost an enormous amount of credibility.
Militarily the US isn't that powerful. Yes they have more aircraft carriers but that only accounts for so much.
There's a variety of factors and most aren't controlled by government policy.
That depends on what you mean by a "leftist society"
    Understand what?
    Eh?
Ok. But what does WWII have to do with the current expenditure of umemployment benefits across EU states?
    So?
    Which I had
Maybe if you really want to put a point across then maybe you should be more concise and clear in your expression.

There are around 800,000 Britons living in Spain and according to those figures posted above (which are by that useless rag The Graunaid, by the way, so I might have to take the figures with a pinch of salt anyway) less than 3000 of them are on unemployment benefits. Most Britons living in Spain are retirees and very very few claim Spanish benefits.

There are, however, more Spaniards claiming benefits in Britain that Britons claiming benefits in Spain, yet there are only around 150,000 Spaniard living in Britain, much MUCH less than the number of Britons living in Spain. What does that tell you? It tells you that the Spaniards are much more of a strain on British society than the British are on Spanish society.

I'll be voting Ukip in May. It's time Britain left the Eu and forged closer ties with the Commonwealth.

Twice as many EU immigrants claiming unemployment benefits in UK than vice versa, new research shows

Around 30,000 Britons are claiming unemployment benefits abroad, research finds – far less than 65,000 EU citizens doing so in UK

    The Telegraph

More than twice as many European Union immigrants are claiming unemployment benefits in Britain than vice versa, new figures have revealed.

Almost 65,000 EU nationals are getting Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) in the UK compared to around 30,000 Britons claiming unemployment benefits elsewhere in the EU.

Research by the Guardian found that while 14,880 Poles living in the UK are receiving JSA there are just two Britons claiming the equivalent in Poland.

The findings come after David Cameron said he wanted to ban foreign jobseekers claiming benefits and deport them from the UK if they do not find work within six months.

However the research suggests that under such a policy tens of thousands of unemployed Britains living overseas would also be forced to return to the UK.

The Prime Minister has said he would prioritise curbing immigration when renegotiating Britain's EU membership ahead of an In/Out referendum if re-elected.

Polls show immigration at the top of voters' concerns before the next election, with more than one in 10 Britons predicted to back the UK Independence Party.

The Guardian asked other EU nations to reveal how many unemployed Britons are living abroad and claiming benefits to put the concerns into perspective.

Around 30,000 Britons are claiming unemployment benefits elsewhere in the EU, according to responses from 23 nations, with Ireland and Germany seeing the highest numbers.

However the totals are far less than the number of EU nationals claiming unemployment benefit here in Britain, with Eastern European countries particularly prominent.

More than 30,000 people from Slovakia, Latvia, Hungary, Poland, Lithuania and Romania are claiming unemployment benefits in the UK, the research revealed. Less than 30 Britons claim the equivalent benefits in those countries.

Mr Cameron outlined the Conservatives' likely position on immigration at the next election during a keynote speech last year which focused on benefit reform rather than an overall cap on numbers.

"People have understandably become frustrated. It boils down to one word: control," the Prime Minister said.

“People want government to have control over the numbers of people coming here and the circumstances in which they come, both from around the world and from within the European Union.

"And yet in recent years, it has become clear that successive governments have lacked control. People want grip. I get that. They don’t want limitless immigration and they don’t want no immigration.

“They want controlled immigration. And they are right.”

One thousand Romanians claiming benefits. You call that prominent? For a country of twenty million? And for the 500 from Bulgaria, a country of nine million?

Poland is a big country and close to Britain. So it's rather natural.

Most of the rest of those scummy, thieving Romanians in Britain who are not claiming benefits make their money through stealing it off people at cashpoints or mugging old ladies. And they set up camp in places like Hyde Park, where they make an absolute mess, leaving litter and goodness known what else strewn across the place, and when the cops come along and clear them off they return in a matter of days.

Of course, the Establishment parties who are always in power in Britain do nothing about it, because they always keep telling us that immigration "enriches" British culture. Why does Britain's great culture even need "enriching"?

One in 60 Poles are living in Britain and one in 30 Latvians. Polish has now overtaken Welsh as the country's second-most-spoken language. Even roadsigns in some areas are now bilingual in English and Polish, even though, in my view, Poles and all other immigrants to Britain should be able to speak English before they come here. It's an absolute disgrace. And we can't control immigration from Eastern Europe whilst we remain in the EU. The only way we can control immigration from the EU is to leave the EU, and that is one of many reason why Britain must leave. We'd be better off out.

I'll be voting Ukip on May 7th.

Thought we were talking about economy here. How does what you describe hurt the economy or the society?

Chances are that if you walk the English streets at night you are 100 times more likely to get stabbed by an Englishman.

But let me tell you another thing. I don't believe that what you say is true any more than 20-25%. British nationalists would have stabbed and set on fire any non-British bums a long time ago.

And there are ZERO Britons claiming unemployment benefits in Romania.

You Romanian immigrants are a scourge on British society. You come over here (thanks to the bloody EU) and rob people at cashpoints and set up squalid and filthy camps in places where it is illegal to do so, and when you are moved on - leaving behind a mess of rubbish and used needles - you return again within days. In fact, the crime rate in areas of the UK where there are a large number of Romanian immigrants has increased dramatically, and that's no coincidence.

No it's not natural. There is nothing natural in the fact that one in sixty of all Poles now lives in Britain. There is nothing natural in the fact that Polish - a foreign tongue - has now supplanted Welsh - a native tongue - as Britain's second-most spoken language.

Britain needs to drastically reduce the number of EU immigrants to Britain (Liebour let more immigrants into Britain between 1997 and 2010 than came here in the previous 2,000 years). And we can only reduce EU immigration, and keep you scummy Romanian thieves out, by LEAVING the EU. That is what Britain must do. We'd be far better off, both economically and socially, out of the EU. And we WILL leave the EU. We're inching ever closer to the exit door every month.

I'll be voting Ukip on May 7th.

Only because the vast majority of people living in England are (for the time being, at least) English. That is the ONLY reason why. But you Romanian immigrants to Britain (the vast majority of you settling in England, so the Scots, Welsh, and Northern Irish don't realise the scale of the problem facing people in England) are walking crime waves. You now constitute most of the country's cashpoints robberies. Crime rates in areas where you settle have increased.

You don't have to believe me. It doesn't take away from the FACT, though, that Romanian immigrants to Britain are causing an increase in crime and are responsible for a huge surge in cashpoint robberies. And that's why I, and many others, will be voting Ukip on General Election day on May 7th. We need to drastically cut EU immigration, and we can only do that by LEAVING the EU.

Criminal gangs from Romania are responsible for a boom in cash machine card thefts.

Over the past year the number of thefts related to ATMs has trebled and police intelligence suggests more than 90 per cent are linked to Romanian immigrants.

There were some 7,572 cash machine card thefts in the first four months of the year, up from 2,553 during the same period in 2012.

Initially there was a dip in card fraud, however this is now rising again. The total cost of fraud on debit and credit cards leapt 14 per cent last year, by £47million to £388million, Fraud is expected to top £400million this year.

The City of London Police’s dedicated cheque and plastic crime unit calculates that 92 per cent of all cash machine fraud is committed by Romanian nationals.

In March, authorities in Europe arrested 44 members of a global card fraud network in a joint operation against a criminal gang targeting victims in Britain and 15 other countries. The operation, dubbed Pandora Storm, shut down illegal workshops producing card machine theft devices and involved 82 house searches in Romania and the UK.

In 2008 Romanian fraudster Adu Bunu, was jailed for five years after he was convicted of cloning more than 2,000 cards, which allowed him to steal up to £1.1million.

Police found photographs that showed his young son rolling around in a mountain of stolen cash.

Your party Ukip and its followers have a problem with reality. Economics and demographics is the topic of this thread yet you rant about hobos and homeless people on and on and the square meters they occupy under the open sky. They are an inevitable aspect of western society. How does this relate to economics? The costs of removing a messy camp of the homeless is superficial at best. Instead of concerning yourselves with the real issues of the country, you Nazi Ukip people waste time believing that certain people sabotage your country, just like Hitler did. He was convinced beyond any doubt that Jews are holding back his country.

Some people never learn. The Ukip want power. All of it. And that's why it should be given to them. That's the only way you'll learn. Some countries may need to go through it all in order to learn the lesson. Germany has. It's possible that you are next. I hope that Ukip wins the elections. It would be funniest English political show in decades if not centuries. It will be at your expense. It won't be at anybody else's. Many in Europe including myself will be buying a lot of popcorn and soda for the show, watching what that professional fisherman Farage does with your country.

There are lots of small and large British businesses enjoying the policies of this country. It's a tax heaven. We will kick them all out once you vote UKIP or we might establish differential fiscal policies to redefine their role here. When it comes to taxes we are very indulgent with them and they make millions which is money that goes to Britain. I know of a few examples of British businessmen who own entire apartment towers.

    No. You europhiles do.

    There's nothing "inevitable" about it.

By being in the EUSSR, with its silly "free movement of people laws", Britain has become nothing more than a dustbin for all the scum of Romania and the rest of Eastern Europe. We're a dumping ground for Romanian criminals who love to come here and steal cash from people at cashpoints.

Thanks to the EU and its racist "free movement of people" law, Britain has to accept ALL waifs and straifs from the rest of the EU who want to come here, regardless of whether they intend to work or not, whilst we have to limit immigration from the rest of the world. So we're forced to accept Romanian Roma scum, who mug old ladies, yet we have to tell Indian doctors that we can't accept them.

The only way Britain can have PROPER control over its borders and decide who can and who can't come into this country is by leaving the EUSSR. That way we can limit the scum from Romania wanting to come here and accept more doctors and engineers from the Commonwealth and elsewhere.

Those filthy, disease-ridden camps set up by your fellow Romanian scum in places like Hyde Park wouldn't exist if Britain weren't in the EUSSR.

Immigration IS a real issue concerning Britain. It is regularly one of the Top 2 issues concerning the British people, along with the economy, and most British people want a drastic cut in immigration. But we can only limit the scum coming in from the rest of the EU only by leaving the EU.

And if you want a Nazi analogy, don't compare Ukip to the Nazis. Ukip and the Nazis are very different parties (the Nazis were left-wingers for a start). A better, and more accurate, Nazi analogy is to compare the EUSSR to the Third Reich.

I'll be voting Ukip in Bolton South East during the General Election to elect the 56th parliament of the UK on Thursday 7th May. Ukip are the only party who can make Britain a better place to live.

Do you even know the difference between economic left and social left? What you are thinking you are addressing here is a social issue (immigration and whatever). The Nazis were far right at social level. But economically leftist. I know! Economics is not something ukip people like or know much about.

You can do what you like. Britain will be far better off outside the EU and our days within it are, thankfully, numbered. We shouldn't be blackmailed by you lot or anybody else into being part of an empire that serves no benefit for Great Britain whatsoever.

And once we're out of the EU we can kick you scummy Romanians out and instantly cut crime rates dramatically; rebuild our once-great fishing fleet and industry, which have been deliberately shrunk by the EU, and kick EU fishing fleets out of our waters, the richest fishing grounds in Europe; and finally have most of our laws made by elected politicians in Britain rather than unelected foreign bureaucrats in Brussels (and Strasbourg for a couple or so time a year - when the whole EU shebang upsticks and travels to that city at great expense to the British taxpayer - for no other reason than to suit French egos).

Romania can continue giving up its sovereignty - the Romanians obviously don't care about it . But Britain should get off this Titanic before it finally hits the iceberg. Britain will be rich and prosperous and outward-looking, whilst Romania will be nothing more than a minor, long-forgotten region in an inward-looking EU that is in terminal decline both economically and politically.

As for Ukip's economic policies, you know little about them.

If you wanna quit the EU, do you also want to quit NATO? You know that by being part of it you also give away a great deal of sovereignty. While in NATO you don't have full control over your army and are obliged by treaty to defend countries and interests that are very remote to you. So wanna quit NATO as well? What sovereignty is that if you have no control over your armed forces?

If I were you I'd worry about the Russian bomber that flew along the English Channel loaded with nuclear bombs just about week ago.

As far as Romania is concerned it will not be a minor, long-forgotten region in an inward-looking EU. This country is a top asset for the NATO alliance given its 650 km long border with Ukraine. Our seashore is the land closest to Crimea that NATO has.

Britain quitting the EU won't make much of a difference to the EU. It will to Britain. Your country will be the only major loser.

There is no comparison here, pal. It's not NATO which has aspirations of becoming a superstate. It's not NATO which has its own "national anthem" and passport. NATO doesn't have its own parliament and its own currency. I've got no problems with NATO. It's the EU that is becoming ever more state-like each year, and I don't like it.

Don't worry about that. We soon chased it off. The Russians will be making a big mistake if they mess with the British militarily.

As part of the EU, Romania is not a soverereign nation state. It is a mere region - and a fairly minor one at that - of the EU, and an EU that, year on year, is declining both economically and politically. Whilst in the EU, Romania is nothing more than an insignificant region of an entity that is in terminal decline, which saw its moribund economy - whose share of world GDP is shrinking year on year - being taken over by the booming Commonwealth in 2013. If you want Romania to be a mere insignificant region of an economically and politically declining power, then so be it, but don't expect the British to want the same for their great nation. Britain should be aiming for something higher than being a mere region of a declining EU.

Britain quitting the EU will affect the EU more than it will affect Britain. The EU needs Britain far more than Britain needs the EU. Britain will boom and prosper outside the EU, whereas the EU will continue to decline, sinking beneath the waves and taking Romania and all the other Member States with it.

Britain needs to get off the Titanic before it hits the iceberg.

Romanians steal £350 in coins from Tower of London moat

The stolen money was destined for the Royal British Legion and was returned by police after the men were caught

Four homeless Romanians stole £350 worth of coins from the Tower of London destined for the Royal British Legion.

Police made a special visit to the famous London attraction to return the cash that had been donated by tourists after the thieves admitted stealing it.

Staff and members of the public raised the alarm after the four men were seen in the moat picking up the coins from an area in front of Traitors' Gate which can be covered by the Thames at high tide.

A member of the public shouted at the men and they attempted to run away. But they were detained by Tower of London staff and army personnel.

Met officers attended and the men were taken to a local police station where they were charged with theft. All four pleaded guilty at Thames Magistrates' Court to taking the money at about 7pm a week last Saturday.

On Tuesday they were each given a six month conditional discharge and ordered to pay victim surcharges of £16.

They were named as Ieronim Cancel, 24, Albert Pruteanu, 19, Tarciziu Cancel and Istoc Ionut, both 22. All are Romanian nationals of no fixed address.

On Friday officers from Tower Hamlets returned to the Tower to return the cash to a Yeoman Warder of Her Majesty's Palace and Fortress, more commonly known as a Beefeater.

PC Lee Juniper, from Limehouse Police Station, said: "It was a privilege to return the donated money to the Royal British Legion.

"The officers who assisted in the arrest of the four men were new recruits, on their very first day out in Tower Hamlets."

That's where many disagree with you. Formal governments are just a mere front of the secret governments. Whether you like it or not, secret pockets of power, small and large are in place since men stood on two legs and discovered fire.

There's no way to chase off a nuclear bomber. It has to leave by its own will. You can't shoot at it over England, or even anywhere in the vicinity can you?
See... since I last posted it happened again. This time it was two bombers and it was widely commented on by the media. The stark truth is... all you can do is follow them and watch. If you shoot it down you play in Putin's hands. Russia could bomb Europe back into the Stone Age. I'm not saying that Russians are ill intended. It's just that an engine malfunction can happen at any time. Radioactive sickness and the life of millions depends on the good functioning of every single nuclear bomber that flies over the Baltic and North Sea. If one crashes or is shot down into the sea, your beloved fisheries will be radioactive for 50 years to come.

Indeed as you put it, they shouldn't mess with the British military. They don't need to and they won't. But they can with your economy for example.

Where did you come up with that?

Britain quitting the EU won't make a difference in the fact that Land Rover ended up a subsidiary of Ford, having been sold to BMW a long time ago in the first place, given the risk of an insolvent national business.

By the way, I just love the name of the Chief Executive and Chairman of Rolls Royce: Torsten Müller-Ötvös and Peter Schwarzenbauer.

That's just two examples. Wake up to the reality. Germany took over your country in subtle ways a long time ago. Quitting the EU would earn you a great enemy in an economic war where the Germans have all the means to sabotage Britain and cause an economic nightmare.

TheTitanic was British made not German made hahaha.

You have to remember that it is the EU, not Russia, which is to blame for the situation in Ukraine. This situation in Ukraine came about because the EU, not Russia, is the expansionist power in Europe.

As for "Putin bombing Europe to the Stone Age": Britain could equally bomb Russia to the Stone Age. I daresay it wouldn't take too many of our 250 nukes or so to destroy Russia.

If Russia does anything to harm the UK economy - which is bigger and wealthier than Russia's - it will all be because of a conflict in Ukraine which started due to the actions of the expansionist EU empire.

Reality came up with that. Romania is not a sovereign state. You're a minor region of the the EU, an EU which is in terminal decline both economically and politically, whose economy was overtaken by the Commonwealth's in 2013. Britain would be wise to quit the Titanic now before it sinks.

And it won't make any differentce to the fact that the Germans would still want to sell us their overrated cars and the French would still want to sell us their stinky cheesies and crappy cars.

The EU needs Britain far more than Britain needs the EU.

Absolute bollocks. Twenty years from now Britain's economy will be larger than Germany's, and so will her population. Britain will soon become the biggest country in Europe both demographically and economically and Germany, Romania, France and the rest will have to play to BRITAIN'S tune.

And why would the Krauts be so spiteful as to break international law by "sabotaging Britain's economy" - something they cannot do - because we left the EU Empire? Are they really so desperate to maintain a European Empire that they would attack a country's economy just because that country wants to be a free, sovereign, wealthy state once again? Do you live on Cloud Cuckoo land, mate? Here's a stat: In 2012, Britain overtook France and the US (the same US that Germany trades with despite the US not being in the EU) to become Germany's biggest trading partner, whilst Germany's trade with the rest of the EU - just like Britain's - is declining. It seems that Britain - a Britain whose economy is powering ahead of Germany's and the rest of the EU and which is producing mor jobs than the rest of the EU put together and whose economy is on course to overtake Germany's in sieze - is VERY important to Germany and that will remain the case when Britain leaves the EU.

It's silly and spiteful and nasty comments such as this yours are making Ukip ever more popular and why a new poll shows that the majority of the British people would vote to leave the EU if there were a referendum tomorrow.

Britain should leave the EU and forge closer links to the Commonwealth - our true friends.

Too right it was. Britian made 90% of all the world's ships at the time.

Well don't start it. A few "English rapists from Spain" are nothing compared to the huge nationwide crimewave in Britain which has resulted from immigration from Romania and other Eastern European countries.
