many straight clubbers are overthinking this question... I have always been two-minded at this issue, but why does it matter what orientation you are? They offer drinks, good music and a social environment just like many bars. So is there really this negative feature about being straight and going to a gay bar? Is it really bad for a straight person to enter a gay bar?

Considered bad by whom? I couldn't care less, and if someone does care, tell him or her to kiss your ass.

I would go into a homosexual bar, in some cases. I would have no problems there as long as they respected me and backed off when I would ask them to back off and respect the fact that I am not gay.

It seems pointless to send out false signals by showing up. I would feel guilty if I ended up with a free drink.

If straight - I do not see a reason to go to a gay bar if you are alone...other then maybe meeting up with friends.

Sometimes people go into one without knowing that it is one.

No, it's not bad. Usually a lot more fun all around and better music.

I used to go to a lesbian bar, although I didn't know it was a lesbian bar. It just had lots of chicks in it. It was a nice place, but I did wonder why I was having such dismal luck with the ladies. Then the bartender explained what was up, and we both had a laugh.

I think some of the butches didn't exactly appreciate me trying to talk to the femmes, but probably enjoyed watching me strike out like Casey at the bat.

I guess if one wants a drink and the place is their only choice...then I get it.

There was a gay bar in El Paso called the Old Plantation and women would go there because they felt safe.

Its bad for the kids, as they grow up seeing the Barbie doll as the way for women to live their future.
And then Gays are openly noticed and they appear on TV and media, demonstrating their sexual preferences,... as do the Straight people, too.

Hence, kids grow up in an environment which tells them to sexual, to delay marriage until age 26, to be "adult,"... and act as they see adults acting.
The result is Welfare to half the nation, 50% illegitimacy rates, bastard kids who suffer Child Abuse i=well above the averages fr two arent kids, and high rtes of violent crime.
    Prisons fill up.
And every social evil becomes legal, because everyone is "doing it."

    MOD EDIT - Rule 5

Do straight men back off from women they come on to because they are polite, or because the law will rush to help her if she get mad?

What you will start seeing is that two gays will approach straight men who they believe they can taunt or tempt.
As it gets late, they may be intimidating or start to apply force and criticism.
We do not yet have laws to protect men from this in the way law does for women.
And, Gays will shortly get the same power found in Canada.

In Canada, Gays can accuse a guy of sexual harassment and get him arrested and charged with no legal expense to themselves.

If a straight person goes to a Gay bar, invitations seem encouraged.
Trouble can easily begin when Gays believe you are rejecting them especially, but are really gay.
And if trouble starts, you will seem the problem as police wonder why you went there, and what was your part in any trouble which occurred.

What makes you think gays are more prone to violence than straights?

In NYC, I loved the music coming from the gay bars. I just couldn't bring myself to go into one, though. It's not that I felt there was anything wrong with it, it was that I didn't know what to expect. Besides, a fair amount of gay guys came to the 'straight' clubs and there was a lot of overlap in the club scene.

I am saying that there are two Cultures possible.

One is what the people before 1950 experienced, and the other is what changed that in the Feminist Sexual Revolution of 1960.
    Simple isn't it??

I certainly had a preconception of what a gay bar would be like, and it involved a lot of leather and men with less than honorable intentions. What I found out is that it's much more like this...

Then why the hysteria over "trouble" escalating in a gay bar?

Nothing changed, Dave. Humans are a promiscuous species. Always have been. Always will be. The only thing that's changed is that we now are being honest with ourselves. I see that as a good thing.

Yep. A bar is a bar. Here, you can find biker bars with Hell's Angels, Dikes on Bikes and Christian bikers all getting along.

    ?
    You MUST be kidding.
    Right?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_revolution
The sexual revolution, also known as a time of sexual liberation, was a social movement that challenged traditional codes of behavior related to sexuality and interpersonal relationships throughout the Western world from the 1960s to the 1980s.[1] Sexual liberation included increased acceptance of sex outside of traditional heterosexual, monogamous relationships (primarily marriage).[2] Contraception and the pill, public nudity, the normalization of premarital sex, homosexuality and alternative forms of sexuality, and the legalization of abortion all followed.[3][4]

Bad is a subjective term as what is bad to one will be anything but to another. By my measure of morality there is nothing wrong with a straight person going to a gay bar nor is there anything wrong with gay person going to a bar in general as I have never heard of a straight bar.
