Doesn't make a lot of difference....the church is on it's way out:

    http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2014/03/07/6-new-findings-about-millennials/

"Millennials have fewer attachments to traditional political and religious institutions, but they connect to personalized networks of friends, colleagues and affinity groups through social and digital media. Half of Millennials now describe themselves as political independents and 29% are not affiliated with any religion—numbers that are at or near the highest levels of political and religious disaffiliation recorded for any generation in the last quarter-century."

    I appreciate the effort here.

No one is denying the negative aspects of religion. I understand this well and I am happy as you might be that religion has lost much of the influence of the past.

My argument is against the stance that religion has been worthless. For instance what do you think motivated men like Galileo and Newton to look into the world and become curious about it? I assure you if you read what these men wrote you will find it was to learn the mind of God. Religion has played a role for many others we revere as great men.

The idea of a god is mythical nonsense which came from the developing imagination of ancient man. He believed in witches, thought the earth was flat, (*)(*)(*)(*) on the ground and wiped on his hands. No Thanks.....I've had my fill of idiots!

All things come from the imagination of man.

With the total lack of acknowledgement of my points I see your ambition lies in simply attacking religion than a intelligent discussion about it and its effects on the thoughts of man.

I shall leave you to it then.

It's not that simple. I was baptized before a congregation of nearly 1000 in the spring of 1957. I became a member of the Brotherhood, taught Sunday school, worked with RA boys, visited the sick on Tuesday evenings, served as usher on occasion. My wife and I tithed our gross income. I never believed that fairy tale....not for a minute. When I retired at about age 60 I quit all of that and told my family how I felt about all religions and I've never gone back. It's ancient malarkey and the modern youngsters know it....they're dropping out like flies.

    Cool story.

How does it effect why Newton became inspired to make some of the largest scientific discoveries?

turning to science for the answers was the beginning of the end for some religions

they saw this years ago, that is why Christianity tried to destroy all things science during the Inquisition, they did not want people to eat from the tree of knowledge

Im just of the opinion religion had its place. Societies need Plato as much as Aristotle.

I also think religion was needed, it played the role of government for years, it was the stepping stone to modern secular governments

How else are people going to believe if not through witnessing miracles?

Charity is the only salvation for the churches. [Matt 25:31-to end]
churches are just the doorway to Christ as they have reproduced and printed out the Bibles they thump to get the congregations together they need for the support of their priests.

But we see churches which have also served causes like Civil Rights, where Rev Martin Luther King stood so strongly.
Churches today replaced the many religions that existed before Jesus.
Religion is all now focused on the Bible.

So, it us time for the messiah to arrive, and save us all, as he speaks to just one religion today. [Rev 5:5]

Before Jesus, every nation had gods.
They used them in a theocratic way.
This meant people had to behave as they were expected too.
    Kings existed, but not 911.

    No we don't. We're a fraternity, not a religion.

A fraternity is the closest a deist is going to get to a "religion".
