My ex (from Massachusetts) lived in California for a job for about 6 months, and a few people there thought he was from Australia. Lol. Being born and raised here, I don't see a similarity between the two accents at all, so I don't know why they would have thought that.

    1. Israel it has great weather, sometime it rains rockets but it comes and goes. Economy is alright, nice clubs, and beautiful people good combination of things.

    2. Russia, weather sucks but vodka is cheap, they have intelligent culture laws, low taxes, beautiful womens, and good music.

Paris is magnificent, although tough on the wallet. It also has the advantage that it is the only city where it is impossible to get lost in. Wherever you board the subway system, the listed station will be the last stop on the line. If you don't take the subway's, just locate a German in Paris, they have conquered the city so many times, they know exactly where everything is. In the Americas? Panama City or Cabo San Lucas at the end of the Mexican Baja Peninsula, Rio or Argentina are supposed to be nice also. Japan? Too crowded with unpredictable natural disasters. Bankok, Thailand or Australia might be interesting too. Gotta win the lottery to make moves like that though............

Having spent some time in Germany, I'd happily return there to settle. I'm also open to most any country that speaks one of my languages, though.

Ummm...Tibet. I would love to live in Tibet with a modest income and social status. I would live in a gliding around in a bathrobe with a hoodie while chanting mantas. Only if I could take my computers, cameras art supplies and electronics including my telescopes and other instruments. Yes the areas beauty and its people speaks for itself. ~

Normally I would just pick Canada but their internet service absolutely sucks. Probably the UK then, I don't feel like having to learn another language already. I am currently learning Spanish but all those countries suck.

I wouldn't mind living in Hawaii. That is still part of the US though. ;)

Germany. They gained their status out of trial and error scheme meaning they are not afraid to commit mistakes for the pursuit of wisdom. What they did in both world wars made this planet an even better place to live due to the lessons we learned. Other than Germany, I will stay to where I am. There are still more than 7000 islands that I havent visited in the "Pearl of the Orient Seas".

I was considering expatriating several years ago, when I could still work. Top of my list was Iceland. Still can't abide their gun laws, though.

Oh, I see. I guess I am more focused on weather given the terrible winter we just went through here in the northeast. Any place tropical for me!

you have to stipulate having "x amount of money, with "x amount of income. Plenty of us would love to live in the virgin islands or in Switzerland, but you have to be a millionaire and have 10% per year income on that million, or a great onliine biz, etc, to sustain yourself in such places.

I've been thinking, and I would live in Cabo San Lucas, if Mexico was a bit safer that is.

Or perhaps the Bahamas, any of the islands would do. Beau-ti-ful!

I want some place where I can hunt and shoot. Some of the philippine islands are great. Parts of S America, too.

If I had to move somewhere overseas it would likely be Spain which is my ancestral home. While my parents families were exiled because their ancestors were Judios, somewhere deep in my heart I still feel that is the place where I belong. My ancestral home is Segovia but prefer to live in Galicia. I do not speak Galician or any language other than Spanish but am sure that I can readily communicate with the locals.

We spent a bit of time in the Tibetan Autonomous Region of western Sichuan, in the Garze Prefecture. Beautiful spot high on the Tibetan Plateau. Lovely people but and a big but, the Han Chinese don't like foreigners there, especially Westerners. You'll be watched like a hawk. For the three weeks we were there we had to report to the local police daily and explain our activities. We finally gave up and returned to Chengdu.

In spite of all the damage Obama and Democrats have done to this country there is still nowhere in the world its equal! If you don't like things are where you live, you're free to move. No government restrictions. It's just a case of doing a bit of research and even going to where you want to live first.

Wow! I would of thought the Chinese would have by now loosened up their distrust of Americans. I mean according to most the Chinese have made small inroads to accepting the Wests ways etc. Oh btw much of my post you quoted was self-satire' and wrote with a degree of well meant lightheartedness. I really would love to live there without really big brother leaning on me. The people are interesting etc but the mountains and land seems to present a metaphysical quality, its truly is a sacred place.

It's not about "accepting western ways" it's more about the Han Chinese believing foreigners potentially witnessing human right violations on ethnic groups. Some parts of the Tibetan Autonomous Region, especially Garze prefecture, are still a hotbed of trouble.

    Canada
Not a huge culture shock or language barrier, even the French-Canadians are for the most part bi-lingual. I'm not a fan of Winter however, that would require some adaptation. I could learn to love ice hockey with no problem, the NHL Blues are very popular here in St. Louis.

I lived in Germany for three years, so I suppose that would be my 2nd choice because of familiarity with the culture and a decent grasp of the language.
