Obama to People of New Orleans: You Inspire Me, and America

Obama, as usual, didn't skip a beat on getting his jabs in on the Republicans.

He visited all the black neighborhoods and spoke to them about the Congress needing to pass a budget to help them out, and that the Republicans will threaten to shut the government down, and blah blah blah... I highly doubt those people in the Ninth Ward even cared, much less knew what he was talking about.

Obama needs to look deeper to see why there are more poor blacks in that area than whites. He needs to take his racist blinders off. He's embarrassing himself and all who support him.

Did he visit Galveston, Texas yesterday, August 27 for its 115 year anniversary? 8,000 to 12,000 deaths on that one. (Deadliest hurricane on record)
Will he fly down to Florida on September 6 to speak on the 87 year anniversary of the Lake Okeechobee hurricane? (Second deadliest)
Maybe the Florida Keys on September 2 for the 80 year anniversary of the Labor Day hurricane.. (Most intense hurricane on record)
Pass Christian, Mississippi had catastrophic damage from Katrina, no visits there on their progress, they don't even make the news.

The only category Hurricane Katrina ranks first in is the most costliest, and all obama wants to do is give them even more money. More handouts. If they haven't rebuilt from 108 billion dollars then they aren't budgeting worth a crap.

So I ask, why just New Orleans, why just Hurricane Katrina, and why just the 9th Ward?

Whoever wrote this doesn't know much about the history of New Orleans.

Well considering someone outside of those areas (myself) had no idea those disasters even occurred, while Katrina was one of the most publicized disasters (and a complete failure of the Bush admin), I can fully see why he would visit that area, as it is the perfect visible record of 'Republicans' for him to to work the media with regards to the upcoming budget fun.

Kind of hard to help an area that shoots at helicopters and turns into a war zone. Easy to criticize but a lot harder to actually give realistic solutions.

Plus it's the 10 year anniversary. I doubt presidents will be visiting for the 93 year and 2 month anniversary like the op wants Obama to do lol

It was a complete failure on local levels. Grab a bus, grab a boat, look after your neighbor, help others. Look to your community, your mayor, your councilmen first. Next move is the Governors.
Had that chain of command functioned, had they done first and apologized later, Bush or no Bush wouldn't have made a difference.
Locals know best what locals need.

How was it Bush's failure? Bush was one of many that urged residents to evacuate.

NO had a mayor and governor who dropped the ball and then blamed Bush. Nagin also failed to evacuate people on school buses that were available but didn't. People build cities below sea level and then blame Bush when a hurricane hits? I don't think that's even remotely fair.

And as always, Obama is catering to blacks....it's always blacks.

You didn't read what I wrote, and if you did, I'd urge you to comprehend it. I asked if he'd be visiting on those anniversaries because they were worse than Katrina. In other words, what makes Katrina so special?

It's getting seriously impossible to take Right Wing criticism seriously.

"Oh he visited those black people for Hurricane Katrina anniversary.. What about the whites killed in Galveston 115 years ago!?!?!!"

LOL are you (*)(*)(*)(*)ing kidding me? What a joke. The manufactured outrage is hilarious and pathetic at the same time.

It's more recent, as in there are actually still people alive who experienced it

Why don't you tell us about all the white people he either speaks highly of or visits but who aren't his donors. When was the last time Obama defended a white victim of a black crime? Has he ever done it? It's racism when a white guy kills a black guy but a gun problem when the opposite occurs. Explain that to me.

No offense, but you seem to not know much about the Katrina disaster either. This was not so much a failure on Bush's part or on HLS, as it was a failure of the local government....and if you really want to make it partisan, that leadership was Democrat. Though I agree that Bash and HLS could have responded much better, much of the offered help in anticipation of the hurricane was turned down by local government. The Mayor even delayed the evacuation order until 19 hours before the storm hit. You can not evacuate a city the size of NO in a matter of 19 hours.....especially when you fail to insure the resources were in place before hand in order to do so.

How about this last Wednesday regarding the two killed white reporters:

"It breaks my heart every time you read or hear about these kids of incidents," President Obama said.

    Wow, that was easy.

Why does Obama have to use Katrina to make a political point? Can't we just concentrate on the recovery and the people of New Orleans and keep this positive.

FYI Pres Bush Jr is also in New Orleans on a good will tour. He is visiting the poor neighborhoods too and saying pretty much the same as President Obama.

Obama the man who can't stand to pay his respects to soliders killed in a terrorist attack on American soil but runs to NO to celebrate a 10 year old event. Now that's real leadership.

Probably cause he actually cares about those people, as opposed to right wingers who'd just as soon have the whole city underwater.

The ones raging cause Obama talked with Black people and ate fried Chicken. You do the math.

    Sigh...

The President joined military leadership, soldiers' families and Texas lawmakers in mourning the loss of the three soldiers killed at Fort Hood on April 2. He added he would "step up efforts to reach troops and veterans that are hurting"

    Sigh....

Look at his response to Chattanooga. After the Nooga attack I lost what little bit of respect I had for the race baiting piece of (*)(*)(*)(*). And his out reach has worked out so well, hey. The VA is firing on all cylinders and really delivering excellent service. Oh that's right they are putting people on wait list to die.

To hear people talk one might get the impression that hurricane Katrina was exclusive to New Orleans.

Also that New Orleans had no mayor or local government with responsibilities to it's residents and Louisiana had no governor or government with resources for and responsibilities to it's residents.
