I was in my local town shopping this morning. I followed a woman and child into the 'mall' who was from some part of Central Africa. Her facial features and skin colour was very dark brown. There was an elderly man who was obviously from the Far east with their distinguishing facial features and skin colour - almost yellow. There were plenty of 'white' people. We have an outdoor market and while walking through there was a family from the Indian subcontinent with intermediate coloured skin and features.
My point? There are many colours of skin between 'white' and 'black', usually associated with climatic conditions. and there are many facial features which originate in different parts of the world.
Ancient Egypt was a large country stretching farther south than today. Most of it was ruled by people with light brown skin. Nubians in the far south were of darker (black) skin. They only ruled Egypt for a short time.
So Pharaohs were not white. Neither were they black.

 

Are you sure? Perhaps they're from Rome City, Indiana. Oh. hang on. Can't be. They don't allow Christians to be thrown to the lions. They feed them to the crocs. Sorry.

Many northern Africans tribes were black, including ones which intermarried with Egyptians. So there would have been some blacks among the pharohs and other Egyptians nobles.

We know that the Hittites, whom we know were black, were heavily intermarried with the Egyptian royalty.

 

The only Dynastic pharaohs that were Black were the Nubian Dynasty. The other 30 dynasties were mixed brown colours.

Even today Egypt and Africa - north of the Sahara are not the same colour as those generally south of the Sahara.

Have you studied the Death Masks of ancient Egyptians? Are they the same as Africans?
Have you studied the picture posted earlier of the Nubian (Black) Pharaoh and the 2 captives. History tells us that this Pharaoh conquered the other parts of Egypt. These 2 captives are representative of the Egyptians he defeated . Notice their colour? Not exactly black, are they? Neither are the numerous pictures we have on documents, on palace walls etc.

Egypt is part of Africa but populated but populated by races from Semetic tribes. The Berbers and other people in North Africa are, in the main, not the same as those south of the Sahara.

No-one is trying to take Egypt out of Africa.

 

Heaven help us. The Hittites were NEVER black. Neither did they heavily intermarry with the Egyptians. They exchanged 'Princesses' to seal treaties. The Hittites originated in the north before settling in Anatolia (Turkey). They fought the greatest chariot battle of all time against the Egyptians. After about 700 years they disappeared except a few members of the Royal family who were settled in a city on the Euphrates. There are theories as to where they went.

It obviously depends on what you mean by 'black'. Extant wall pictures and art work show Egyptians in many shades of 'brown'. They weren't concerned with showing their colour accurately, it was more their culture and beliefs. Concensus today is that Egyptians are a seperate, indigenous population. Not the same as the Sub-Saharan African. The article below will help.

How do we know the Hittites were black? Or Abraham? If he existed at all the claim is the he came from Babylon or that area .. They weren't black either.

 

A lot of the statements these posters make show lack of knowledge of the real Ancient Middle East. Afrocentrism comes to mind.

This is not a complete answer, but is interesting.

Most Egyptians were not 'Black'. In the south of the country there was a nation of 'Black' peoples - Nubians. When the 'Brown' northern people were fighting among themselves the Nubians took advantage and conquered them, bit by bit. This was the Nubian dynasty - one among 30 others. The only 'black' dynasty. It lasted about 100 years and then the Assyrians invaded and pushed them back.

It's all in Egyptian history.

 

Well, they also think the Hittites were black because they were descended from Noah's grandson Canaan. They weren't of course.. They spoke Indo European languages.
