    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/02/us/oregon-shooting-umpqua-community-college.html?_r=0

Fact: At least 35 school shootings and/or school-related acts of violence have been committed by those taking or withdrawing from psychiatric drugs resulting in 169 wounded and 79 killed (in other school shootings, information about their drug use was never made public—neither confirming or refuting if they were under the influence of prescribed drugs). The most important fact about this list, is that these are only cases where the information about their psychiatric drug use was made public.

My question is, "Are you, freedom loving, United States citizens, still willing to let large corporations, like the pharmaceutical companies, decide the big decisions for you"?

With zero clue about the shooter, I'd guess a case of depression and antidepressants, bullied as a teen, possibly even now, and either angry at a teacher, a bully or a girl.

So, now we're supposed to give up medicine so our death merchants can continue to sell firearms to the mentally ill?

Not yet. I'm so filled with despair for him and his family and all the families that are affected. I admit, when I saw the news, I called my niece, attending the college, to assure, myself that she was okay. I am grateful, she wasn't there. My heart goes out to all.

YES! It's an all or nothing situation. Sarcasm off. Who are these "death merchants" you speak of?

(*)(*)(*)(*)ing gun dealers who sell to people without proper background checks, gun show dealers who sell without ANY checks AT ALL. ANYBODY who allows guns to get into the hands of the mentally ill

I had a son who was going to be institutionalized until I finally got him to a doctor who knew how to USE medicine instead of telling us "drugs are not the answer" and locking him up was. Now he's entering his second term on the Dean's List and majoring in Biology, he's going to be a Doctor in New York, not a Trustee in Spring Grove

Anyone who thinks you can deal with seriously disturbed children without drugs has never tried it. Anyone who thinks we should condemn millions of children to horrible lives just so a vociferous minority of scofflaws and misanthropes can continue to not police themselves, and not even submit to reasonable policing, is seriously twisted themselves

Your all or nothing is typical conservative. "All for me, nothing for you" doesn't cut it with most people.

You sound very angry. My brother was an institutionalized violent schizophrenic for more than 30 years. I grew up with him. He is the person I love most. I know how difficult that is. (BTW your conservative comment is making many people laugh right now.) I don't have a problem with medicine, in general. I have a problem with prescribing drugs that have not even been evaluated on young people. It happens, often, in the pharmaceutical industry, they do trials on healthy adult males and then recommend that drug to juveniles and women. The chemistry of both are different than that of the study groups.

Let's set all of that aside for a minute. What does the warning label on the drug say?
Antipsychotic drugs, like virtually all medications, have unwanted effects along with their beneficial effects. During the early phases of drug treatment, patients may be troubled by side effects such as drowsiness, restlessness, muscle spasms, tremor, dry mouth, or blurring of vision. May cause death. (I think we should set that particular warning aside, because mentally ill people don't understand what death means.)

I would say they were probably not withdrawing properly. I personally know several folks who were on SSRIs and just decided to stop taking them. In some cases they went 'cold turkey' and in other cases they withdrew too soon. In every case their personalities changed for the worse. These drugs effect brain chemicals...One can be convinced one is really sane while acting insane to those around. If you or anyone you know is on one of these drugs PLEASE do not stop (or let them stop) taking them unless under strict doctors supervision...Please...

It's probably another failure of psychiatry and some in the media are insinuating the guy was Christian, then as more information comes out they will never mention that part again.

I can't hate. Only try to understand. If something had happened to my Lizzy, I would be an unstoppable monster, no better than the shooter, in my rage, at ending him. Because it was not my loved one, I can take a calm look at the situation. People that are emotionally involved have a right to their anger, the rest of us need to look for resolution.

I'm pretty sure religion has little to do with it.
