No it hasn't. Tell me how many did VW kill ? More have died from lack of fossil fuels that's for sure. Millions every year
And you think that the government should take it's marching orders from big banks? After handing them over a trillion dollars? The oligarchal kleptocracy notes your service. You shall surely be rewarded, minion.
I accept that. Humans alter their environment to serve their purposes. Part of that alteration involves mild warming due to CO2 emissions. By itself, this would be an uncontroversial statement. It is true that humans are killed by climate disasters. The problem is you take this fact out of context to imply that man made climate change causes an increase in deaths due to climate events. This is wrong. The opposite is the case. LINK Climate related deaths are down way over 90% since about the 1920s. More support: LINK
Exactly what do you not understand about toxic fumes... specifically about it being toxic. And what is it that you dont understand that VW got cars producing more than what the government thinks its safe.. as in more like 40 fold the amount of toxic fumes? And it's just like smoking. You think it's fine, until statistically you get cancer much more often and die earlier. - - - Updated - - - The scientist paint a picture that the banks believe is true. And the way climate change affects things, like more extreme kind of weather. More extreme kind of weather is costing the banks money, no doubt.
CO 2 is not a toxic fume. How about the millions who die every year inhaling toxic fumes because they are forced to use dung for fuel since they have no fossil fuels.
Its not just that mild warming. It's also massive deforestation, the emptying of the seas, and polluting the environment with a heck of a lot of toxic waist. Oh get real. That is ignoring the medical world has leaped gigantic steps. http://www.theguardian.com/environm...on-increase-due-to-climate-change-study-finds Storms are getting worse. Worse stomds -> more deaths.
Cars produce more than just Co2, among them toxic fumes. And VW cars went something like 40 times over that maximum what is allowed. I recall Beijing going all out for the olympics to cut down the massive pollution that was just always present in the city. ^^ crap doesnt look healthy to anybody with a brain.
I believe Climate Change is real but this is just bull(*)(*)(*)(*). The large banks now suddenly back action tackling Climate Change? We all know they are following the money and don't actually give a damn about the environment. CC is and can be big business for large banks, corporations and the like. I don't believe these banks would actually do much to try and tackle the issue at hand.
Sure I oppose pollution but this thread is about climate change where its claimed CO 2 is the villain . CO 2 didn't cause that
I'm thinkin this strikes of fascism. All those banks are tied very close to the government and promotes government agendas. I remember a couple of years back when Bank of Oklahoma rep came to our workplace to go over some parts of our benefits package. At that time, the government had a program where they would either pay off bad loans, or insure against bad loans....can't remember exactly the program today. The rep said that Bank of Oklahoma chose not to participate because the program came with an assortment of long-term strings that relingished a certain amount of control from the banks. Got me thinking...how easy it is to control industries and businesses by enticing them with money and fabulous deals.....and threatening them with over-reaching regulation. The carrot and stick strategy.
Do we need to do better when it comes to the planet, yes, but without getting China and India on board it will be a wasted effort in the long run.
On the thing of "fossil fuel energy is a huge net positive for human life"... this is the side effect where people are paying with their lives. On your question, how many people did VW kill? Who knows. But that pollution is a killer. On your idea that it now must be about Co2. Yeah climate change -> more extreme weather. Extreme weather kills people and destroys properties.
You can bet the "Big Banks" have found a way to profit from it. Otherwise, they wouldn't be interested.
China has recently made plans to do something. India is about 50% of what the US does. The EU has plans. While the US, with no plans what so ever, has the 2nd largest Co2 footprint on the planet.
IMHO... nothing data to back it up... but banks also do insurances. And with climate change causing more extreme weather, and more extreme weather does more damage to properties = banks turning out more money to people who are insured. They could always raise the insurance amount. But that might scare away too many customers. Something like that is probably behind it all. It's costing them money. It's that, and/or they really want to invest in new technologies that curb Co2 things. New technologies to have is new opportunities to make money. And it's do I put my money in that or the iffy stockexchange... It's not out of a philanthropically vision or something. Banks never had that. So that seems not really plausible.
Fascism involves government controlling private business to further its agenda. You really think banks lobbied for the honor of standing with Obama on climate change?
Because we produce the most. Also we have cut emissions more than the EU has - - - Updated - - - Its the other way around. Play ball or pay. Lots of money to be made on green energy
And this is private business influencing the government. The other way around. What kind of long term Co2 commitment does the US government have? They signed Kyoto or something similar?
There is not more extreme weather. That is a lie. There were major floods in the 40's, earthquakes in the late 1800's. Settlers told of twisters out west in the 1800's. Man made climate change is a lie. We haven't had many atlantic hurricanes this past decade. Few years ago the 'experts' called for 5 hurricanes here. We got none.
Ive been around a long time and the weather was worse in the 50s. You cant control the weather any more than you can control the climate So you claim CO2 is a pollutant . The we should strive to eliminate it right ? - - - Updated - - - The US has cut emissions more than any of those countries
