"We can do SOMETHING about it"? That's about as vague as it gets, isn't it? Why can't he just state what "SOMETHING" he's got in mind instead of just playing the role of a progressive 'anti-rights' populist for once? I mean, what a crock! Yet, progressives love to instill a sense a panic followed by a call to action by saying stuff like "we can do SOMETHING about it" and then sling ridicule at anyone who doesn't get on the "SOMETHING" bus with them. Obama did "SOMETHING" about fixing HC, right? He did "SOMETHING" about illegal immigration, too, and now our dear man of action leader is squawking "we can do SOMETHING" to stop crazies from shooting people without specifying what "SOMETHING" he's talking about (although it's pretty clear how progressives what to "solve" the problem).
Here's the deal; Obama & his progressive-minded problem solvers lied through their teeth to enact their "solution" to HC costs & now we're living with that disaster. Obama, behind the curtain, gave us his "solution" to the immigration problem & now we're living with that disaster, too. His ME policies have been a complete disaster and so is HIS economic recovery for the middle class. And, soon we'll be living with his grand solution to "climate change" (WFT does that even mean?) because we must do "SOMETHING", "ANYTHING" before it's too late! What's he going to do? Well, we don't really know, but rest assured he'll do "SOMETHING" we'll be stuck with. So, when Obama (or any progressive for that matter) rallies behind "we must do SOMETHING", rest assured it means greater centralized control, less freedom and, more times than not, less money in hands of the middle-class American's.

It should be politicized intelligently. Obama and Hillary did NOT do this. When the first thing out of your mouth is MORE gun control, you've already proved to be ignorant of the facts. We already have plenty of gun laws. How about ENFORCING them? And taking guns away from legal owners won't do a DAMN THING and everyone knows it. The ONLY thing that does is insure those who don't care about the laws won't have to worry.

Basically crazy people can't be stopped from getting guns illegally. Crazy people if you don't know they're crazy can't be stopped from getting them legally too. So what is the similar thread with every single mass shooting. Millions of people have guns but never shoot anyone. But EVERY single mass shooter has been mentally ill. So what is technically the problem? The crazy people. Now I wonder what connects all those crazy people together? Drugs, lack of morals, broken families and in many cases, Islam.

Saying guns are the MAIN cause of gun violence is like saying cars are the main cause of car accidents. Neither are dangerous when operated correctly and responsibly, since neither can hurt anyone without a PERSON AT THE CONTROLS.

    How's that for sensible?

A total ban on handguns, rifles and automatic rifles. Shotguns and small calibre rifles are permitted if the owner can show that he needs them for vermin control in rural areas. That's how it works in Britain-and it does work.
America needs to get over this ridiculous obsession and worship guns. They are NOT symbolic of freedom as the pro-gunners trot out every time a tragedy occurs-any truly free society has no need of 300 million guns in circulation. They are, however, symbolic of a very broken society which seems to be either powerless, complacent or entirely impotent when faced with these inevitable and predictable killings.
Never mind though, it'll be off the front pages by next week so all you gun nuts can conveniently forget about it until the next massacre finds the gun lobby, the NRA and their sponsors and paymasters (the gun industry), rubbing their hands in gleeful anticipation of the panic buying which always follows these horrific events.

You apparently have this 'American Dream'. It's about time you woke up.

Yes, he needed all 13 legally held guns for defence. Saves having to reload if the first 12 run out when defending against 63 muggers

Should we ban knives and all materials needed for bombs too? Lots of people are killed by vehicles. We can ban them too and force people to take buses and subways. What else can we ban?

Only because you are a Christian minister, I will offer one reason why we are seeing such increased violence and hatred being focused on Christians: it is referred to as "Epistemological Self-awareness". Some refer to it as Epistemological Self-consciousness. I can recommend one among literally dozens of books that involve this concept: "The Days of Vengeance", by David Chilton -- http://www.amazon.com/Days-Vengeanc...4&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=days+of+wrath+chilton

Slowly, but surely, we are falling into various camps, and the camps themselves are consolidating into fewer and fewer, larger and larger groups -- all of which are growing to fear and hate each other. Whether you are an other-worldly high-church Episcopal or a fire-breathing fundamentalist, "primitive" Baptist, the meaning of all this won't be lost on you. I have never been the same after reading Chilton's monumental book on Revelation.

Despite some constantly wringing their hands and proclaiming their impotence in confronting the relentless gun slaughter in America, there are reasonable measures that have public support and could reduce the mayhem to which Americans are far too often subjected.

Politicians may fold before the zealots' tirades, but even the gunniest regions of the US are dominated by common sense folks:

Some promote a paranoid nation in which all are armed, so that at the crack of a gun being discharged maliciously or accidentally in a public space, all in the vicinity can whip out their shooty bits and start blazing away - with all the cool, coordinated precision that is typical of occasions of mob panic.

Even those thoroughly smitten by the gun mystique have to admit that legitimate and thorough background checks would not be as noisy.

That's what's been reported - all were legally purchased. Problem with guns is their only purpose is to kill at a distance so they can be accidently discharged and kill someone, or deliberately fired in a crowd to kill many.

I'm sorry, my paranoid friend, but because someone supports reasonable gun controls does not mean they want to take yours away from you. It only means that some people do recognize there are holes in our laws that allow nut cases to easily obtain weapons and ammunition. The addition of a few regulations and tightening of ones already on the books would help. Once again note that states with more regs have lower numbers of gun deaths per 1,000 of population.

You know what they won't politicize? The fact that there was an ex-soldier in the class room. A disarmed man because it was a gun free zone sadly. That brave man charges the gun man and was shot 7 times for it. Had the ex-soldier had access to his rights, this would have ended much better. You can't take the heroic bravery away as easily they did his gun. This is the real unreported tradegy in this event.

Chris Mintz, a 30-year-old student, father and Army veteran, was shot seven times while rushing the gunman at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

    P.S. Grizz is an anti-gunner.

But we can give these types of guns to the Libyans , The Syrians , The Iraqis , The Afganis' to name a few so they can fight for their freedom? Do you suppose when Americans loose their freedoms and need to fight for them, that the Iraqis will be right over to arm the Americans? Anyone else going to fight for your freedom?

That would be my greatest nightmare. A hyperliberal, Constitution-hating socialist autocrat like Obama issuing one of his infamous "pen and phone" decrees to control weapons of self-defense? There is almost nothing I can think of that would horrify me more than that....

Gee, brutha, you make a very good argument for getting a CCP (concealed-carry permit) and having a firearm with you everywhere you go at all times.

Excellent points! We move heaven and earth, get thousands of our own military personnel killed and wounded, and squander billions of dollars trying to arm, train, and motivate people in the countries you named -- but the hyperlibs in our own country want to strip us of our ability to defend ourselves and throw us to the whims and cruelties of BEASTS. I ponder it every day of my life -- just how (*)(*)(*)(*)ed up can a person's mind be to even suggest things like that?!

You're one of my favorite posters, but i honestly thought you were smarter than this. Trying to figure out the mind of a liberal? Seriously? You'll be much better off if you do what i do and deal with them the same way i used to deal with the dementia patients at the nursing homes and hospitals.

Yes, he would be one dead mother (*)(*)(*)(*)er, you would not believe how fast I am :roflol:

There's always going to be a situation where a gun won't save your life, but the odds that is will a great that it will.

It absolutely boggles the mind to think liberals like Obama actually try to make a point like in the first part of the quote: "Obama chided opponents of gun control legislation, including those who argue the country needs “more guns” to prevent mass shootings".

Amazing, so in Obama and liberals minds, if a gun had prevent 5 of those 10 shot dead, somehow that is a bad thing? I want a liberal to answer how saving the lives of 5 with a gun and sadly not being able to save all 10 is somehow a failure?

Armed bad guys have never been an issue in my daily life or most everyone elses daily lives either for that matter. I'm more worried about someone running into my car with their car. That's the threat. So anyone who fears firearm liberty is simply brainwashed by the media.

Yep you are a bad boy if you can grab a pistol from the glove or inbetween the seat and shoot a cat when he already has a gun in your face. That's some TV (*)(*)(*)(*) right there.

    - - - Updated - - -

Who said anything about being afraid of firearm liberty? I own several guns, I just asked the question how much good does a firearm serve you when one is already in your face.

    - - - Updated - - -

Correct some situations it will, some it won't.

There is plenty of evidence that most the time it will, most bad guys won't mess with someone if they don't know if they have a gun

A 5 foot tall, 105 pound woman can easily take down a 6'5" 275 pound man with a shot to the brain, that is a fact
