Of course they do and this has nothing to do with ISIS. The Saudis are 100% vested into removing Assad - the Saudi's arch-enemy Iran's primary ally. The Russians are committed to keeping him in power.

The Saudis should be content with the status quo though, Assad is still there but he has no country to lead so he is a burden, not an asset to Iran.

The war will continue for years and eventually Assad will be removed, to be replaced by god knows who, hopefully something similar to the Egyptian junta.

The Saudis want to keep Iran off the Arabian Peninsula and prevent Iran (or Russia) from controlling the chokepoints at the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al Mandab, but KSA doesn't need a gas pipeline to Europe.. They can go East to West and North.

its funny how we, still use this term , but Assad controls only 14% of Syrian territory and can not get more. the situation is exactly similar to A-stan in 90s

The Iran-Saudi mutual hatred is religious, political and economic, it's a feud going back centuries.

    - - - Updated - - -

As of now ISIS 1 - Russia 0.

    Define Russia's victory?

The Saudis don't give a fig about Syria.. They don't want to rule Syria or take their land.. They want Syria to stop funding the al Houthis, HAMAS and Hezbollah ...

Russia can't compete in the oil business so they want Saudi Arabia to cut production???

So they do give a fig about Syria then LOL And that's not about the terror gangs you mentioned, it's all about the Saudi-Iran rivalry for domination in the region - religious, political, economic and military domination.

Saudi Arabia isn't trying to control Iran or take territory or rule Iran.. Saudi Arabia wants Iran to stay off the Arabian peninsula.

Hamas is a Sunni terrorist group, very different from Hezbollah (a shia terrorist group) or the Houthis (a loose federation of shia militias). You also mix up the timelines of the troubles in Yemen (involving the Houthis) and Syria. And Saudi arabia very much has a vested interest in trying to overtrow the shia axis of an Alawite-run Syria, a shia-dominated Iraq and a Shia-ruled Iran.

Overall, when it comes to fighting jihadi terrorism we should remember that Saudi arabia is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

It wants Iran to stay within its borders and off the Middle East. Saudi Arabia wants to control the Middle East, religiously, politically, economically, militarily, so does Iran.

There is no simple and neat solution in Syria, but if anybody is to provide outside leadership for genuine moderate Sunni Arabs in Syria it would better be the Saudi's archenemies, the Hashemites now ruling Jordan.

I am not advocating the creation of a new monarchy. But some serious re-ordering of boundaries in the Middle East is overdue.

There are plenty of problems to go around, not just with Sunni Arabs.

HAMAS like Hezbollah emerged in the 1980s with cause, but now they are an obstacle to peace and a justification for Israeli aggression and refusal to pursue a diplomatic solution..

Further, KSA is supportive of peace and development in Lebanon.. and both Israel and Syria are aggressive towards Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia doesn't care about Iran and Iraq.. They are not so stupid to think they can alter the demographics of either country... and they don't covet their land or their oil.

You should do some deep background on the al Houthis.. Try .. Al Houthis: Critical Threat .. published in 2010.
