The Turkish army has expressed concerns to the United States’ top military figure over Syrian Kurdish groups’ attempts to create a “Kurdish corridor” in northern Syria and change the demographic structure of the region to the advantage of Kurds.

The messages were delivered to Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who held talks with Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu on Jan 6.

Dunford, the highest-ranking military officer of the U.S., visited U.S. troops stationed in Turkey’s İncirlik Base following talks in Ankara.

Military-to-military talks focused on the joint fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and on developments in Syria and Iraq, as well as other regional issues, daily Hürriyet learned.

One of the most important issues the Turkish army raised was the attempts of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in crossing the Euphrates River and therefore entering the Azaz-Jarablus corridor.

Turkey claims the PYD is an offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and, ergo, “terrorists” even though the U.S. and other anti-ISIL coalition members see them as a legitimate political party.

“We are aware of their desires and attempts to establish a Kurdish corridor along the Turkish border by entering the Azaz-Jarablus line. We have declared so many times that Turkey will never accept this,” a security source said.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (QSD), a coalition composed of Kurds, Turkmens, Christians and Arabs, succeeded in seizing control of the strategically important Teshrin Dam on the Euphrates River, but Ankara has complained that 85 percent of the coalition consists of PYD members.

“Turkey is in favor of the protection of the territorial integrity of Syria. We are sensitive on this issue,” a source said about one of the key messages given to Dunford.

    PYD commits demographic change

The Turkish army also claimed that intelligence has shown that the PYD is continuing its efforts to change the demographic structure of the region by forcing Arabs and Turkmens to leave the area. “Attempts at demographic change should not be tolerated,” a source said.

Committed in the fight against the ISIL

The two countries’ military teams discussed the ongoing fight against ISIL inside Syria and potential joint operations to be conducted to create an ISIL-free territory along the 98-kilometer strip of the Turkish border, known as the Marea-Jarablus line.

The Turkish Chief of General Staff expressed Turkey’s commitment in the fight against ISIL and said recent measures taken to close the border were explicit proof of this commitment. However, he criticized some anonymous U.S. soldiers for reportedly proposing the deployment of 30,000 Turkish troops along the border to stop infiltrations by ISIL members, describing these ideas as “palliative” and “imaginary.”

The Turkish army suggested that ISIL’s presence in Jarablus could well be defeated through an intensified aerial military campaign.

    Russian impact on anti-ISIL fight

The two top soldiers also discussed developments following the downing of a Russian warplane by the Turkish Air Force and its impacts on the joint anti-ISIL operations. Turkey complained about Russian threats of retaliation against Turkish warplanes, which forced Turkey to stop flying over Syria to take part in anti-ISIL fights.

interesting how Turkey and Russia are alike. They both oppress minority populations, both committed/ are committing genocide, both deny that they ever committed genocide. Turkey/Russia Two Birds of a Feather[

The Kurds like any other people of the world who desire an independent state should have one. Politics, greed, and bad or evil policies of certain country prevents that.

What minority populations is Russia oppressing? Last I heard, there are 123 different languages spoken in the Russian Federation. Oh you must be thinking of the Russians in the Donbas, but it's Kiev that bombing and killing them, not Russia.

    - - - Updated - - -

Strange that you should say that, and yet you would deny the Donbas area their freedom.

I have news for Mr. Erdogan, the US is inconsequential in Syria. So Turkey can give Washington all the warnings it wants, it doesn't mean though that the Syrian army or Russia will listen.

Right now Russia owns the sky, and Assad the land.

That's amusing.....the title says warns the US. But then it describes Turkey expressing concerns.

Okay.....concerns noted. We will let you know when there is something you should know.

Until then, sit down and be quiet. There are adults talking.

Erdogan has to project himself and Turkey as being in a position of strength and authority. His followers expect that. This by the way is why he can never apologize to anyone, and why he keeps bullying everyone...including ambassadors. I'm amazed at what the American Ambassador Riccardione had to put up with.

Putin knows that, he's not stupid. If Erdogan was to apologize, it would give the impression of weakness to his followers, and that Turkey is not the almighty Turkey that everyone fears and
    he would lose them.

He can get away with it until BO peep is put out to pasture. After that.....he will need to face reality and understand. Turkey isn't Almighty and can be stuffed at any given time.

I believe lthe Kurds have been treated by Turkey as Russia has treated the Ukrainians and so they have a right to their own country and be free of Turkish tyranny. Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Hezbollah, have all tried to exterminate the Kurds and Turkey as we speak is continuing its war against the Kurds after lying to the US they would ally with them against Syria. They never did. In fact they have waged war against the Kurds their supposed anti Syria ally from the get go. The Kurds share a foe with Turkey in Assad but also are under attack from Erdogan. The Kurds are despised by all sides just like Israel.

With due respect, Russia has no issue with the Kurds at this time but if the Kurds get too close to wiping out Assad they could easily attack them. Turkey is their concern at the moment, not the Kurds because Turkey is attacking pro Assad forces.

Turkey has not as a poster said attacked ISIL. They have not. That is crap. They in fact trained them and continue to finance them. They have avoided any attacks on them perceiving them as an ally against Russia and Syria as well as Iran who they do not trust.

Turkey is attacking pro Assad forces. but they also attack who is supposed to be their ally, the Kurds, not ISIL.

At least now and then Russia while defending Syria against anti Assadrebel forces actually bombs ISIL as well.

If anything Russia might bomb the Kurds in the near future if they get too close to Assad and the Kurds know this and are waiting for the British, French and US to come to some kind of agreement so they don't get attacked by Russia. Turkey, Syria, Iran, Hezbollah, Al Quaeda, ISIL, have all attacked the Kurds. Their only ally in the ME is Israel who like them have no interest in fighting with Putin not because they trust him but because they feel Erdigan is a worse option. Whether we like it or not Putin's presence has crippled Erdogan and is a major deterrent to him and that is a good thing in the long run.

Russia at this point is operating as the proxy army for China interests as well as their own.

    Those interests at this time have coincided temporarily with Britain's, France's, Germany's, Italy's Israel's Egypt's and Greece's.

Doesn't mean anyone loves Putin it means they find Erdogan, more of a destabilizing concern and so they should.

Erdogan unlike Putin does not have the ability to be cold blooded. He rants and rages in fits of emotion. Putin on the other hand is a cold sociopath.

Its easy to see of the 2 who will go down first and Obama is in zero position to do a damn thing except do the lame duck waddle.
    .

So I do not buy the above pro Turkish b.s. and if I have to choose between Turkey and Russia at this point I go with Russia. Putin is blatant in his agenda, Erdogan is a liar.

As much as I do not trust Putin I believe his moves in Syria are blatantly transparent and the fact is Britain and France support his presence.

Erdogan is a radical pro ISIL supporter and despises Putin for supporting Syria and making it difficult for him to get at the kurds.

If the kurds get in Russia's way they would bomb them. They aren't at this point, so they are not getting attacked by Russia. To expect Russia to give Erdogan clear room to attack pro Syrian rebels as well as anti Syria Kurds an actual foe of Russia is stupid and petulant.

Erdogan is a pathetic, dangerous man and at this point he's so stupid he pissed off the only country (Russia) that was in the position to wipe out the Kurds in Syria. Now they will sit back and let the Kurds do a number on the idiot Erdgan. It suits Putin just find to watch this idiot once again stick a knif eup his butt.

Erdogan never fails to make new enemies.

Excuse me when did Russians start killing Ukrainians? Other than the Gallician Byzantine Catholics with their Nazi and paranoid mentality, the Ukrainians were under the Russian Patriarch. Why would they persecute their own people?

I know that Turkey did try to exterminate the Kurds in the 1980's and about 200,000 ran into Syria. As for Iran, I never read that they tried to exterminate the Kurds, or Hezbollah for that matter. I'm not sure, but I don't think the Shias have ever exterminated people. Saddam who was a Sunni did gas them the way Turkey did, even though the Kurds themselves are Sunnis.

The Kurds are not despised. There are different factions though. When Erdogan turned on Assad, Assad gave over the areas bordering Turkey to the Kurds.

The Kurds want their ancestral lands. Those lands should have been given to them at the end of WWI, and had the Treaty of Sevres taken affect, they might have had them. Most of their lands is now part of Turkey, that is why they are having the most trouble with them. A large part is also in Iraq, and a smaller part in Iran and Syria. The majority of Kurds in Syria today, are the ones who ran out of Turkey to escape the genocide.

As for Russia, there is a small part that lives there, but Russia does give people equal rights, so there would be no problem. If Turkey were to have done the same thing, then maybe things would have been different. But Turkey fears they would want to join the other Kurds, so instead of giving them more rights it started killing them the same way Kiev is killing the Russians in Donbas.

The people of the Donbas wanted more rights, but Poroshenko refused to talk to them and started killing them. Russia doesn't want them, and the Minsk agreement says they must remain with Ukraine, but I think now it is too late. Too many people have been killed and maimed in the Donbas for them to ever want to rejoin Ukraine.

Turkey and especially Erdogan and his family buy oil from the wells ISIS has stolen and then ship it through the criminal Barzani government in Iraq to forty countries. Russia has a list of the countries that are buying the oil and supporting ISIS but the US could care less.

Russia took care of the ones who were threatening the Latakia area first, and then it attacked ISIS. Russia had continuous sorties on the oil tanks and tankers that was being transferred from ISIS headquarters to Turkey.

Russia has no reason to bomb the Kurds...they are not an enemy. They do not want Syria to break up though. Russia's major enemy at this point is Turkey.
    .

You might be right here, although at one point China will enter the fray.

You're wrong about Putin, almost everyone in the world respects and likes him because he is honest and concerns himself with human lives and people's welfare. You are listening to Western propaganda.

As for Erdogan, he's a megalomaniac who feels he has a messianic purpose to restore the Ottoman Empire.

They are on opposite ends of the moral spectrum. Erdogan has no concern towards human life, it's immaterial to him. He even slapped a miner who lost a loved one in a mine accident, because he spoke rudely to him. It was taken on a video. Even now he is committing genocide on the Kurds in his country and covering it up with lies.

This is why he gets along with Obama. They understand one another, and killing and destroying others for their own benefit is only a game to them. This is why Vladimir Putin at the UN said in reference to the US, do you at least understand what you have done...meaning; do you understand how many millions of people's lives you have destroyed in the Middle East, Africa and Ukraine?

He hates Putin for hindering his plans on grabbing part of Syria to rebuild his empire. Putin knows all of his plans the way I do, and he will hinder every single one of them.

You have it all wrong, Russia is allied with the Syrian Kurds, and because Erdogan is helping Kiev in attacking Crimea, Putin will start helping the PKK as well.

Putin said he will always do back to nations what they have done to Russia in equal measure, but will never exceed it. If you notice, every time Washington did something to Russia, Vladimir Putin came back with an equal response.

To understand people you have to listen to what they say, not what the MSM is telling you they said.

Turkey is a terrorist state who wants to crush the independence of Kurds in their own county as well as Syria. But the Kurdish people are brave and free, so it will be difficult for Turkish gangsters like Erdogan to stop them from gaining their independence

Yes. And you can add the US to that list too. It's a much bigger player in all those departments.

This is what I don't get about you Yanks on this forum. You're so blind to what the US does and always, but always, spend your time pointing the finger at others, when you should be sorting out your own house.

    Such hypocrits.

It is well known that most of US citizens are less than average culturally and intellectually. Most of them even do not know how many states they have or what are the biggest 10 states in USA. But they like to watch hollywood movies and tv series a lot.
So,it is very normal to hear some of them writing in this forum as if they are watching tv and then reflecting a scenario here.
But wake up dear friends. Real life is different.

In real life a country with the name of Turkiye is able to fight against EU-Soviet-Iran-Syria backed seperatist Kurdish terrorism for more than 35 years.
Of course we lost 40 thousand people (together with our civilians, soldiers, policemen, teachers, employees, imams, terrorists)and billions and billions of dollars, time...But we are still a united country with a solid army.
In real life a country with the name of Turkiye sends its troops to Iraq for its own protection and keeps them there no matter what USA, Russia, Iraq tells.
In real life Turkiye is the strongest partner of USA in Middle East region and it supports US army with its air bases, ports and additional intelligence services.
In real life a country with the name of Turkiye does not listen any warnings(or concerns :) )from Soviet Union and USA and sends its troops to Cyprus to stop Greek and Christian Cypriots killing Turkish Cypriots in 1974. Now there is peace at Cyprus because there are 2 countries on the island no matter only Turkiye recognizes one of them.
In real life Russia has a huge power, Putin has a big tounge, he invades Ukrain, he invades Georgia whenever he wants...But in the end a country with the name of Turkiye warns them (or should i say gives its concerns :) )many times for not violating its airspace and not bombing Turkmens in Syria. And in the end it downs Russian warplane.

And in real life everybody can tell whatever they want to.
But the realities are allways on the table.

Do not feed the trolls please.

You’ve got to wonder where the Turks who post here live.

In real life shooting down a Russian plane proved to be a completely idiotic move. Not a single Turkish plane crossed the Syrian border since the shooting took place. The Turkish planes were grounded.

In real life Syrian Turkmen continue to be bombed by Russkies. As a result of Russia’s retaliatory measures far more Turkmen died in Syria after Turkey shot down Russian plane than before. All Turkey can do is watch them dying.

In real life the Turkish infrastructure and interest in Syria have been mercilessly bombed.

Turkish red lines? You’ve got to be joking. The Kurds crossed the river. Turkey did nothing.

Turkey may finally be 'accepting the inevitable' in Syria
    http://uk.businessinsider.com/kurds-turkey-euphrates-syria-2015-12?r=US&IR=T

A Kurdish militia with ties to an organization waging an insurgency in Turkey's southeast region violated Turkey's "red line" in Syria over the weekend by crossing the Euphrates River during an anti-ISIS operation.

The Die Is Cast: The Kurds Cross the Euphrates

By the way, Istanbul Ataturk Airport is an absolute disgrace. One of the dirtiest airports in the world. If toilets at that airport were the reflection of the Turkish nation it would definitely be a definite humiliation for the Turks.

But hey, the Turks in Erdogan's Turkey have every right to be deluded that they are the great power. As I said earlier, the Turks are in for a rude awakening. Erdogan will be remembered as a man who helped create Kurdistan. Not a man who recreated the Ottoman empire.

    No,of course not.
This is the problem of most people all around the world and pf course in this forum.
Things do not have to be completely black but also completely white.
There are some subjects which are gray.
I do not care Erdogan and whatever he does.

But some people mix Erdogan with Turkish people. Well,if there are people who want to put Hitler in front of all Germans or Mussolini in front of all Italians or (let me give some positive examples, too) Kennedy in front of all Americans...then ok, I must have nothing to say.
But the reality is far different then it is.

First of all Turkish planes were not violating Syrian air space. Whoever is telling that Turkish planes have not been violating Syrian airspace since the downing of Russian plane by Turkish Air Force,is just talking nonsense. Why do Turkish planes need to violate Syrian airspace? They are not doing it already.

Under normal conditions a strong country must not show its hate agains a whole nation when the leader of that country is angry at the leader of the other nation. But in real life a country which is leaded by a racist fachist, cancels many agreements between 2 countries, cancels the right of education of Turkish students in Russian universities, cancels visa free agreement, cancels free trade (he is really stupid, whatever he is doing are all against WORLD TRADE UNION REGULATIONS,you will all see what I mean). There are more than 200.000 Russian-Turkish families living in Turkiye. Normally a serious leader must consider this fact. But a fachist leader never thinks logically and do you see how similar they are (Putin and Erdogan)?

In real life some countries make everything in front of the tvs.
But some countries seem not to make anything but for sure they have special forces who are helping their relatives in neighbouring countries.
And some countries have intelligence service but the real one which really collects intelligence and follows its government's RED LINES.

I do not care Kurdistan or any other thing and we all know that Kurdistan is going to be declared soon. But it will be with the help of Turkiye not with the help of Russia or USA or EU.
    Because we are here.Allways.

And that Kurdistan will not take any single piece from our mother land.
And that is the reason why Russian army continuously bombs and bombs and boms Turkmens instead of ISIL. But Turkmens continue to become stronger, continue to capture towns from ISIL, continue to protect and enlarge their lands for future TURKMENISTAN in Syria.

And put your real flag at the top instead of English flag.
    Be honest and brave please.

P.S: I do not know when and how you found toilets at Istanbul Ataturk Airport that much dirty. But as a man who has been travelling all around the world since 17 years, I can very easily say that IAA is at top 3 among all airports around the world for many subjects including its cleanliness.
