Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and former technology executive Carly Fiorina will not appear on the primetime debate stage when the Republican Party's 2016 presidential class faces off later this week in South Carolina.

Debate host Fox Business Network announced the debate lineup Monday evening, dealing a blow to both candidates three weeks before Iowa's leadoff presidential caucuses. Just seven candidates — the smallest Republican group so far — will be featured in Thursday's 9 p.m. ET main event, based on criteria established by the network that relied on recent polls.

Real estate mogul Donald Trump, the leader in most recent polls, will again appear center stage in the debate. He'll be joined on stage by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

Paul and Fiorina were invited to participate in a 6 p.m. ET "undercard" debate, although Paul said he would skip the second-tier faceoff.

"An artificial designation as being in the second tier is something we can't accept," he told CNN on Monday. "I won't participate in anything that's not the first tier."....snip~

What a crock of (*)(*)(*)(*).....I think Fiorina should also bow out of the Second tier Debate. Force Fox Business to lose that slot and some money. We need to take the Media out of Determining who gets to be in a Debate.

Unreal they would knock Fiorina out and let that Puffed bag of wind Christie in. Same with Kasich who has been a disappointment. Neither belong on the stage with the first tier Candidates. What say ye?

Kasich should not be in the main debate. He polls lower than Paul. I agree that Paul should be in the main debate and Kasich should be bumped to the kid's table (even though I feel Kasich has done good things for my state, his numbers suck and as such, he should have to deal with it).

    It should be:

    Trump
    Cruz
    Rubio
    Carson
    Bush
    Christie
    Paul

In addition, after tonight, people polling lower than 5% should drop out. We need to start thinning the herd...

Kasich has been a big disappointment. I thought he would be doing better. Christie shouldn't be in the Main Debate. Nor should Bush-Lite.

Neither are polling well in Iowa or NH. Nor S Carolina. Paul doesn't have much of a ground game in either state. Fiorina does and its more than what Bush has on the ground.

FOX should not have deleted Carly. The women voters who supported Carly may now throw their support to Hillary.

Word is Nicki Haley is being looked at. Although she brings nothing to the table other than she is woman and minority. Fiorina has been direct with her message and she is the one that damn near everyday is calling Hillary out. Hence the MS media looking to cover all that over and avoid Fiorina as much as they can.

They don't want her to make Hillary look more incompetent than she already does.

He seems more focused on his Senate seat. That should give people the clue with Paul. Debating Santorum and Huckabee would be a joke. Both Paul and Fiorina would tear those two up. So its a waste of time.

I had high hopes for Carly. But I doubt she will be a VP pick. Usually the VP is expected to deliver votes and Carly hasn't shown the ability to do that. Her home state of California isn't going to vote Republican even if she is on the ticket.

Rubio, Christie, and Bush are all there legitimately is for any dream to come true, and Rubio is by far the best (with Mitt hiding around every corner), too bad he's so despised that even some of the angriest kons will stay home, but with a homerun vp he might not lose too tragically

Well The Repubs get goofy and then the next thing ya know. Everybody then learned about Palin from Alaska. Then again, Johnny Quest McCain never was all that bright. Johnny more than likely just wanted to tap that. But Palin was having none of that.

I don't blame him for wanting to hit that. I would be glad to myself. :rock_slayer:

I think McCain intended to counter the "Black" vote with the "Woman" vote. He just didn't understand that the only thing that matters to Democrats is the letter (D).

My first thought was protect them from the glaring spotlight for awhile. They are the most legitimate candidates anyway, just not the most media savy and charismatic. Either Carly of Rand is a great improvement over recent choices like Palin or Biden. They would have made a fine pair, but if We can get either , it would be a victory.

Well Palin doesn't care for Hillary much. But that can't be said for Johnny and his protégé Lindsey. Hopefully Johnny will get knocked from his seat this time round.

Oh and as to Sarah. [IMG]

Women just vote for women because they're all sexist. They don't care about what a candidate says or does, they just care what the candidates genitaila is. GIRL POWER!!! I think people that think Hilary is gunna get some kinda advantage from her genitaila, are fooling themselves. "Women" aren't simple minded and playing the whole girl power card is going to backfire. Its insulting to there intelligence.

I disagree for two reasons: 1 Kasich is the most qualified of all the candidates running. . . (A), he served in Congress for nine terms, and as Chairman of the House Budget Committee, gave this country it's first balanced budget since 1969; (B). he is a moderate conservative; (C). he is currently Governor of Ohio, winning reelection in 86 out of 88 counties in a landside; (D). he has worked in the business world for Lehman Bros; (E) and he is truthful in what he says and does, which is rare in the political field these days! and (F) The GOP needs both Ohio and Florida for the electoral votes in order to have a shot of winning, and a Rubio/Kasich ticket could provide that. In addition, no Republican has ever won the Presidency without carrying Ohio!

    2. On July 24, 2015, Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight site featured an article written by Zogby entitled "John Kasich is the real deal - pay attention to him." Since that site has been correct for the most part in picking winners and losers in politics, people tend to pay attention to what they write.

Kasich may not be as egotistical and flashy as some, since that is not his style, but elections should never be a personality contest, but who is most qualified to do the job, IMO. We will get what we deserve...

BTW, I believe Paul and Carson have already dropped out of the race.

For the sake of clarity...no one "selected" or kicked people off the stage. The rules were clear and NOT limited to 7.
    1. Anyone placing in the top 6 poll average places nationally is in. In ORDER that is Trump Cruz, Rubio Carson Christie Bush
    2. Anyone placing in the top 5 in Iowa is in: That adds NO ONE to the list in #1,,, Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Carson, Bush
    3. Anyone placing in the top 5 in New Hampshire is in: ONLY Kasich gets added. .... Trump, Rubio, Kasich, Cruz Christie

Nowhere does Fiorina, Paul, Huck or Santorum show up in any way. For the record:
    Nationally....Paul is #7 at 2.8%....Fiorina #8 at 2.0%.... #6 Bush is at 3.8%
    Iowa....Paul is #7 @ 3.8% and Fiorina is #9 @ 1.8%... #5 Bush is at 4.6%
    New Hampshire Paul is #7 @4.0% Carly is #8 @ 3.8%.... #5 Christie is at 9.5%

Paul asks party leaders to include him in prime-time debate.....

Rand Paul has asked Republican Party leaders to include him in Thursday's prime-time presidential debate, using the results of a new poll in Iowa and his unusual coalition of support as leverage.

Paul did not qualify for the prime-time debate on the Fox Business Network because an average of recent polls in Iowa and New Hampshire did not have him among the top five candidates. But a poll from the Des Moines Register and Bloomberg Politics released Wednesday has Paul in fifth place in Iowa with the support of 5 percent of likely caucus goers.

That poll was not released in time to be considered for the debate. But it was conducted before the deadline.

Fox Business Network spokeswoman Caley Cronin said the network would not revise its lineup, pointing out the criteria released in December said all polling had to be completed and released by Jan. 11 at 6 p.m.....snip~

What do you think? Should Paul be allowed in?

in a month or so it will be down to Trump, Cruz and maybe Rubio and I am giving Rubio the benefit of the doubt there. The establishment candidates are burning through the cash here in SC. Watch CNN or FOX and you will see every other commercial is a Rubio or Bush piece. I don't see where they are having any effect in the polling and if you toss out the outlier polls both Bush and Rubio peaked back in mid November. I don't see where either has much hope for anything changing. If for some reason Trump would drop all of his support would go to Cruz in my opinion
