In my home state of Oklahoma a bill that would have made school vouchers possible was not allowed to be considered in the House or Senate.....why.

Based upon this report https://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=66 we the United States spent 12,401 per student in the 2011-2012 school year. All I can say to this is Holy (*)(*)(*)(*) that's a lot of money. My wife any I are not wealthy, but we see that the public school systems as a whole are broken and getting worse. (Before you start jumping and screaming that I don't know what I'm talking about I do pay attention, talk to friends and my mother is a retired public school teacher and my sister is currently one.) For this reason my wife and I pinch and scrape to send my 2 sons to private school.

Here's the funny thing though........neither school they attend cost us 12,401 per year. My son in grade school cost approximately a 4th of that and my son that just started high school 3/4 of that.

At this point we could argue about the quality of education, but I propose we not since there are many reports/studies for and against. For me the issue is choice anyway. If I pay the taxes why can't I use a portion of what pay to send my son's to a different school?

I would also think that thinning out the public school system would be a good think for educating since we hear reports all of the time about class size and how hard it is to teach a large class.

I am indifferent but the "I pay taxes so why shouldn't I be able to" argument is a weak one. I pay taxes so why shouldn't I get a voucher to send my dog to obedience school?

uuummmm....because you don't currently pay taxes to send your dog to public obedience school? Of course there are some usual laws on the books all over the country so I guess you could.

Not really sure why that is weak either. I am taxed every year so that my children can attend school "free" of charge. If I choose not to use the "free" school why shouldn't I be able to pay less in taxes?

Your only say in where your money gets spent is when you vote. If yu get vouchers so should I for dog obedience school by the logic that we somehow get some special different say than just our vote.

Agreed, but the Unions and politicians won't let it get to a vote.

Then we will both stand in line. If you want to jump in line ahead of me, however, you probably should make an argument for how a child benefits from vouchers. Anybody who has ever met my dog would have not doubt it is in grave need for obedience school.

As I indicated in my OP, I'm not going to argue the benefits. I can march very educated people out that say it's better, but the Unions can march out an equal number that says it's not. Like many things it comes down to personal opinion because all of the "experts" cancel each other out.
