It's easy to dismiss this as one district that's liberal bastion. However, this is important. This is Trump's home turf. If Kasich can win here and decides to stay in on the west coast he might be able to win in places like Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, San Francisco, Berkeley, and LA that Cruz can't win. Trump won't admit it, but losing Manhattan has got to be a disappointment. If he lost Clinton County, it would be like, ok, that's basically VT so who gives a (*)(*)(*)(*)? This is an even bigger surprise to me than when Trump lost Maine. I didn't think he'd just win Manhattan, I thought he would win it easily. He's Manhattan's boy, one of the richest, most successful people there.

like i pointed out in another thread NY was actually an incredibly bad place for Trump. It is a closed primary and you had to change your affiliation 6 months beforehand. The system there favors establishment republicans like cruz and kasich as their supporters would already have been registered.

Do you think Trump will do better in places like Seattle or San Francisco? I think that Manhattan is more transient than the rest of the state, but that's reflective of other liberal bastions as well.

When you win about 89 of 92 delegates, I think it's pretty easy to dismiss one district, even if it is Manhattan. Not sure what happened there; Trump is a pretty brash fellow, maybe he picked up a lot of detractors there over the years. It also may have more to say about Kasich than it does Trump. If Kasich wins only in the most liberal of closed primaries, and gets trounced everywhere else, it just goes to show how unfit he is for the Republican party. Why doesn't he just quit, and join the Democratic Party; where he can further champion the cause of persecuting Christians and celebrating the unconstitutional imposition of gaydom upon all of America.

Manhattan? That's where Wall Street bankers and brokers live, right? :D Trump got 44% and is behind Kasich by whopping 70 votes.

    Sorry, it's a non-event.

Yep, more than 50% in 23 out of 27 CDs, top spot in 26 out of 27 CDs, 90 out of 95 delegates, 61% of the popular vote and 36% margin of victory.

But whatever makes you feel safe and pacified. Lol

That's not the point. The point is that Kasich can be a factor in these major metropolitan areas that are liberal bastions. Particularly in well educated liberal bastions.

I think this might have been it. Kasich didn't win NY County but substantially won in all others. But NY County is by far the most liberal and establishment County perhaps in New York and perhaps the whole country. And since Trump's support has not been from establishment Republicans but rather the more libertarian, and anti-establishment types, he could be expected to be weakest in NY County than anywhere else. And Kasich only won a narrow victory there and probably got a substantial number of his votes there--he IS the establishment candidate. And because Trump has attracted so many disenfranchised folks back into the process, you may be right that they just didn't get excited enough soon enough to get registered. Of course the establishment is going to vote mostly for Kasich.

I think the race between Hillary and Bernie would have been a lot closer for the same reason--Bernie's supporters are mostly the young and newcomers to the process and they probably just didn't get registered in time to vote.

New York (state) Democrats outnumber the Republicans maybe 10 to 1? By a substantial number anyway. If any Republican has a chance to turn that red anytime soon, it will be Trump.

That's a small fraction of Manhattan, though maybe a very large share of Republicans on the island. I worked at a trading firm and most people tended to be Ron Paul guys during that cycle. Probably mostly for Trump this time or are waiting for Gary Johnson. Hard to see how they'd be for Bernie Sanders given that his tax proposals would put them out of business. However, guys at the large financial corporations such as the large banks, are probably more establishment.

Not only silly but also humiliated. One's got to be completely off his/her rocker to try to paint a massive Trump's victory in NYC as some sort of defeat. The biggest and most convincing victory so far. And only register Republicans had the right to vote.

Wall Street voted for Kasich - and everyone else when with Trump. And Kasich should brag about this?

And it is important to observe that Kasich didn't win by much even in NY County. Had the independents been allowed to vote in the NY primary, I think Trump would have won there too. Kasich did not get 50% of the vote in Ohio, his home state. Cruz didn't get 50% of the vote in Texas, his home state. Trump got 60% of the vote in New York, his home state. Nobody can say Trump didn't solidly win New York.

    Mostly people registered Democrat.

But in NY County Republican primary, the 12th congressional district, Kasich edged out Trump by less than 1%--this is the Wall Street district and the most liberal of all NY State. In almost every other NY district, Trump won by well over 60 or 70%. If independents had been able to vote, he almost certain would have increased the margins and would have won NY County as well.

It would seem that the people of New York actually do share Trump's "New York values," as Cruz put it. So bad for Cruz he literally ran away from NY the day before the election - and stayed away.

Trump got 90 delegates (out of 95), he is up 18% in California - second poll showing him with such enormous margin. But being the only anti-establishment, anti-special interests candidate in this election cycle, I am sure he is mortified about his loss of the Wall Street congressional district by 70 votes. I bet he lost sleep LOL too funny
