Also include Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus and every other religion, faith and belief that walks this planet.
Reading just the Torah this god-being is a spoiled child with horrible morality on his own, Atheists seem to be far more moral than he is. Come on according to believers he committed global ecocide and mass genocide (The Flood), more mass murder twice on his own by divine acts (Sodom and Gomorrah and the Tenth Plague on Egypt) and condoned slavery. So I'm sorry if I find it not the best source for morality so why should anyone look at it as a source of morality? What is so bad about enjoying life some its the only life we have, one might as well savor what pleasures we are allowed?
Your whole argument is that you feel bad for being called a name, and so you are going to do that same thing back to them. That is a sign of emotional immaturity.
It happend as an example. If one goes to subjective morality then one strays from God and finds pleasure but can psychologically ruin their life like drugs, alcohol etc, God is more or less being hard to make us fear him in the same way you fear dangers like heights, fire etc, its for our own good. Usually why there exists hell and heaven.
So you believe in God because of fear of something (hell, God's displeasure). Is fear really a good base for a belief?
Just a small correction: Atheists are the ONLY moral and ethical people. Religious people cannot have moral, nor ethics. They do what their god tells them to do. It is not up to them to decide what is moral.
You could argue that for sure. People say Jesus did it, not themselves. Jesus removed the desire to sin. And it is true that many people without religion have acted morally and ethically by avoiding the processes of behavior that hurts other people. Nevertheless, when one is immoral, it is a sin against the Reality they exist within.
The reaction to fear is what became Consciousness to men. We are Conscious because we have maintained a constant state of Fear. We have learned to "wait," and not immediately react with flight or fight. That pause has become a 24 hour/7 day phenomenon for mankind. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
No it is not a fact. Atheists tend to be more law abiding and less hedonistic than Christians. Christians ( and people of other faiths ) are often more likely to have substance abuse problems and sex scandals.
They have far superior morality than people of faith. Notice how prisons are filled with people who profess to believe and have faith. It is difficult to find an atheist in prison.
As with theists. We constantly have Christians, specifically, in this subforum saying that slavery used to be morally permissible, but it isn't now. Infanticide used to be okay, but not now. Polygamy. Killing people for believing the wrong things. Killing homosexuals. The quickest way to find a moral subjectivist is to read the Bible to a Christian.
Sin cannot be against reality. The classic Sin needs to be against some deity. Since Atheists do not follow and such thing, you may adopt the concept of sin against the thing they behaved immoral against. But this is a little too thin for my liking. I'd simply say he behaved immorally.
The fact you cannot articulate an idea, but only are able of attack a person who can, may or may not be related to the fact you are religious.
We as Atheists as a tendency to base moral actions on a basic standard of this and its really complex ... does said action hurt anyone or cause anyone to be harmed? Gay Marriage doesn't hurt anyone so is not immoral. Stealing does hurt someone the stolen property hurts the owner of the property. So hard.
Subjectivity plays a role in how we see everything regardless of what one believes or doesn't believe. The irony in this statement is that most atheists value facts and evidence, science. Science seeks to limit subjectivity while religion thrives on it. You make the mistake most theists make in arguing that without religion people would just do whatever they wanted to and it's a terrible argument for several reasons. When you don't believe you will live on forever in another place after you die this world, this life means so much more. It is religion that renders this life meaningless.
Anyone you meet will be eclectic. While they may name themselves this or that, functionally (how they act, versus how they say they act), they derive their mode of living from a diversity of ideas and experiences. As you said, the west was founded on Christianity- very brutal, and very destructive, both to themselves and others. Not much different than many others who have attained the power to do so.
You're not paying attention. I have no idea what you're talking about; but then, most likely, neither do you. That you consider a plainly stated truth a personal attack indicates a problem on your end, obviously.
