Why would this guy say those unkind words about Christianity which is Obama's stated religion?

I dont understand how people get away with this argument in public.

"You disagree with me so you are intolerant." How does this even make sense? Isnt the other person just as "intolerant" as they are accusing the other of being?

Its a debate, you have a different opinion. Quit crying racism and intolerance, its a joke

Martin Castro is an Obama political appointment to one of the most politically leftist organs in the entire US government. You might as well dig up Karl Marx and ask him what he thinks of religious freedom.

It's incredible the degree to which the US government has become radicalized under Barry Sotero Obama. His father was a Marxist. His mother was a Marxist.
His "uncle" Franklin Marshall Davis was a Marxist. His friends were Marxists. His pastor was a Marxist. His Chicago mentor and political advisor, Bill Ayers, was a Marxist. And so on, and so forth.

This may come as a shock to some people, but "religious freedom" is part of the reason this country was founded.

Religious freedom does not mean the ability to impose your religious beliefs on others.

Correct, there is legal discrimination. In fact, there is Constitutionally protected discrimination, and everyone discriminates every day. There is nothing in the Constitution that mandates discrimination per se is banned. The idea that everything that can be perceived as "discrimination" is bad and can be banned is stupid.

    - - - Updated - - -

There was nothing about "imposing beliefs on others" in the link. It was a blatant attempt to ban religion.

Indeed it doesn't. Which is why I take precautions when arguing certain topics with very religious people and definitely judge them harshly when they hide behind religion as an excuse for something.

Its time for the government to act with regulations on religious organizations and people to promote a civil society for all when such are hateful to various groups.

The chairman isn't accusing Christians of asserting a victim's status. He is saying exactly the opposite; that Christians feel they're superior and above the law.

Is it your belief secularists aren't trying to minimize/marginalize Christian influence in public policy? That's pretty naive, to say the least.

Please go on. Detail these regulations, and expose your tyrannical, dictatorial schemes. I can't wait to see this.

The way I see this is.

You are denying my Religious Freedom if you do not allow me to impose my interpretation of my religion upon everyone else.

That's what the argument sounds like.

Does Article 18 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights pass your 'anti-tyranny' stance?

    "Article 18
    1. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This right shall include freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice, and freedom, either individually or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in worship, observance, practice and teaching.
    2. No one shall be subject to coercion which would impair his freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice.
    3. Freedom to manifest one's religion or beliefs may be subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law and are necessary to protect public safety, order, health, or morals or the fundamental rights and freedoms of others.

I hope you can accept the validity of the 3rd paragraph; ISIS violate it regularly.

I suppose if the UN attempted to deal with these blatant human rights abusers, like Saudi Arabia and Iran, they would simply leave. It's a tricky problem.

Interestingly, the traditionally more 'moderate' and less repressive Islamic countries like Turkey and Indonesia are now in danger of increasing internal disorder, as fundamentalism seems to be increasing in these and other countries (for which the case can be made that the West must bear some of the blame).

Today Indonesian police had to fight it out with 4 Islamic extremists; and in Turkey police had to kill one of their own who had assassinated the Russian ambassador, apparently on religious grounds (he was shouting the usual "God is Great", before murdering the ambassador.

We are certainly fortunate in the West to have separated Church and State several centuries ago, even if our internal Christian fundamentalists can cause considerable strife at times.

[I wonder if a large banner proclaiming: There is Only One God for All Mankind , if hung in the UN General Assembly chamber, would work some magic by unconsciously sinking into the minds of the delegates, over time].

Refusing to bake your cake isn't imposing anybody's beliefs on anybody.

Christian doctrine does that as well. "My kingdom is not of this world", "render unto Caesar, that which is Caesars", "obey all authorities instituted among men" etc. Unfortunately, Islamic doctrine makes the church and state one and the same.

The phrasing "religious freedom" to defend a proprietor's wishes to not serve gay poeple is retarded. No religion bans commerce with homosexuals.

Why can't we just call this what it is? Property rights. You don't have to defend property rights with religion. It's a (*)(*)(*)(*)ty defense anyway.

It shouldn't matter what religion you are or if you are at all. You should be allowed to decide who you want to do business with based on whatever principles you wish to apply.

These accomadation laws don't violate any right to religous expression. They violate the rights to property.
