Now, I have never studied pure Gender Studies, so to speak. Only have I encountered a few studies from the discipline studying social anthropology, ethnology, peace and conflict and politixal science, so I might not have the purest of opinions regarding this whole issue, but can one really call gender studies an actual scientific discipline?

The little experience I have with the discipline tells me that gender studies is nothing more than a political tool rather than a science. First and foremost the whole subject is buildt on the worldview of Feminist ideology, something that- of course - dramatically hampers the disciplines objectiveness (and objectiveness is the very cornerstone of science). Furthermore, the discipline is used to push a political agenda rather than conducting science- through the universities they want to push for societal change.

In Sweden they have been very successful and politicians seem to take gender studies' "discoveries" unreasonably seriously and the government keeps funding the gender departments with loads of tax money.

My questions are; have you ever studied the discipline and what are your thoughts about it- can it really be considered a science?

It's a stupendously idiotic waste of money. I've met ONE person who took 'womens studies' (equally idiotic), and she's a first class PITA. A strident, dour, self-absorbed lesbian who talks to her partner as though she's 6 years old.

Genders studies is strictly for dysfunctional kids who aren't smart enough to take STEM courses, and who have imbeciles for parents.

I tried to take a gender studies course once but they said no cis-males allowed.

You should have told them you're a woman trapped in a mans body that identifies as a male.

If one takes a look at the kind of studies that earn people PhD's in Gender Studies here in Sweden, one gets really uncomfortable. A few years ago this one woman earned hers by concluding that subways and train stations, in themsekves, oppress women and a few years before that, another one get hers by "analysing the trumpet from a gender perspective". :icon_jawdrop:

Now, if f that ain't cringeworthy, I don't know what is.

Everything sanctioned by the state. Honestly how can anyone get research grants for something that nonsensical? Norwegian state telly (NRK) analysed theur Gen Stud- departmebts a few years ago and it resulted in the government pulling back their fundings.

Here you can see it. Quite funny, but at the same time frightening:

    Nailed it! :D

I've met three women who study the subject- One of them a radical feminist and a lesbian and the other an average "do-gooder" SJW who always shares "No human is illegal"- and whatnot posts on Facebook. The third one is so obviously a gender studies major even a blind donkey could point it out- short, blue hair, glasses, nose piercings and slightly fat.

In Sweden education is "free" so atleast here, I can "understand" people seeking themselves to useless degrees. There are not really any incentives of getting something meaningful, people just pick what they find interesting or fun(I myself am guilty of this too). Of course in US, where you have to pay, it is harder to grasp how people can seek to get such garbage majors, not to speak about their parents allowing them to. Ugh.

One of the dumbest ironies about gender studies is how they continually teach the gender pay gap. The gender pay gap is a false claim which has been debunked and irrefutably proven to be manufactured time after time after time. Yet the gender studies clowns still preach and believe it while willfully ignoring facts.

The irony is that one has to ask what do gender studies majors do for a living. They may be qualified to wait tables or flip burgers or any other menial job but that is it.

So gender studies majors are enormous contributors to their mythological pay gap

    Yup.

I like the "pink tax" more gives me a great laugh- "Oh mah Gawd different product have different prices! Oh mah! PATRIARCHY."

As one intelligent woman once said if you wish to reduce the pay gap drop your gender dance therapy studies and major in electrical engineering.

Or just let the market free and make the public sector, where most females work, private. :D

More competition=Higher salary. Demand and supply, you know.

What utter BS, even the most rigorous studies have not been able to extinguish 100% of the pay gap . .you just "assume" that they have.

The utter BS is yours an yours alone.

Yes all studies have shown there is no pay gap period.

The income gap is based on personal choice and although no difference can ever be 100% accounted for it is in fact non existent when personal choices are taken into account.

So before spouting your proven false and debunked horsecrap ( and it is factually disproven ) do not try and put words in my post which i never said.

The pay gap is a myth go to school grow up and learn something

Complete and utter crap, even the most rigorous studies when all things have been taken into consideration, including personal choice, show there is still an ~5% gap . .so I would suggest it is you who needs to go back to school, grow up and learn something.

If as you (wrongly) assert it has been disproved, post the relevant data and research to show it ... I know exactly what you will post and it does not prove or show that when all things are taken into consideration that the pay gap disappears, as I said you just "assume" it does.

What about the studies that show women under 35 making more than their male counterparts?

Yep, I agree. But it has nothing to do with the management wanting to pay a person less based on their gender. If the boss has someone that offers to work for $25/hr, and another person who will work for $20/hr, and they are both mutually qualified for the same job, guess who will get the job. Its the same reason why having illegals come to the country is so detrimental to wages of the poor, cause they are willing to work for less, under the table. People who run businesses aren't stupid, they know they need to cut costs everywhere they can. Women typically have undercut their own value when negotiating pay, their boss wont stand up and just say, "hey, you are asking for $20, but I am willing to pay you $25."

Not to mention the "pay gap" is also based on the fact that men tend to work longer hours and take more off time shifts than women do, which gains them more money even if both males and females make the same per hour. So its actually an "earnings gap", based on personal choices.
