    "Inequality is bad, right?

A new survey documents that some people own lots of guns, while others own only a few.

    That’s not fair!

Funny, I don’t hear liberals suggesting the government give out free guns to help balance gun ownership inequality.

The left-wing Guardian newspaper examines the issue in Gun inequality: US study charts rise of hardcore super owners:

Americans own an estimated 265m guns, more than one gun for every American adult, according to the most definitive portrait of US gun ownership in two decades. But the new survey estimates that 133m of these guns are concentrated in the hands of just 3% of American adults – a group of super-owners who have amassed an average of 17 guns each.

The unpublished Harvard/Northeastern survey result summary, obtained exclusively by the Guardian and the Trace, estimates that America’s gun stock has increased by 70m guns since 1994. At the same time, the percentage of Americans who own guns decreased slightly from 25% to 22%.

The surge in the number of guns owned is fueled by the ladies:

The new survey, conducted in 2015 by public health researchers from Harvard and Northeastern universities, also found that the proportion of female gun owners is increasing as fewer men own guns. These women were more likely to own a gun for self-defense than men, and more likely to own a handgun only.

Women’s focus on self-defense is part of a broader trend. Even as the US has grown dramatically safer and gun violence rates have plummeted, handguns have become a greater proportion of the country’s civilian gun stock, suggesting that self-defense is an increasingly important factor in gun ownership."

So, are you a "hardcore super gun owner?" I am. But I don't think Obama, Clinton and Democrat politicians want fair gun distribution like they do for your money - taking some of my guns to give them to people who don't have guns. They want everyone to be in "gun poverty," having no gun at all.

I'm a fairly casual gun owner. I have a fairly small collection but everything plays a role.

Me? I don't own anything. Big question is why they want to quote an unpublished article?

Well, a hardcore gun owner. I don't have nearly 17 guns, but I have more than one.

I have no doubt the stat about super hardcore gun owners is correct. I don't buy the stat about the 256 million gun estimate. Guns don't wear out. I think the 300+ million gun estimate is closer to real.

I believe no study or survey on who owns firearms or how many they own.
There is no accurate mechanism in place to keep track of firearm ownership. There are many firearm that have been around for decades and according to the NICS system, we are adding approximately 41,000 guns each day to the total. We know that these "studies" consist of random phone calls to a limited number of people. We also know that gun owners are rightfully not forthcoming with their ownership information. The only thing that I believe in this study is that there is an increase of women owning firearms, and thats because that has been what I have witnessed with my own two eyes.

First off "Hard core" anything is something of a "dig" rather than an acolade in this case.

As I see it, "IF" I use such a term as hard core, loosely speaking, A "hard core" gun owner would not be determined by the amount of guns actually owned, but by how seriously a person considers their own and their families safety in proportion to how dedicated they are to personal carry to insure that security or safety.

    I consider
( in my own unwaxed opinion) a person that hunts occasionaly and goes to the range a few times a year, owns a few or even many (10 - 20 ) ARs and AKs, various other Rifles and pistols and a good supply of extra magazines and ammo, accesories, only carries on rare occasions, or may not have CCW or may not carry at all all, to be a "casual" Gun owner, Guns are just not that crucial to some folks everyday routine, and that is perfectly OK.

Liberals would paint this person as a over the top "Hard Core" Arsenal owning Gun Owner, and speak of why does anyone have need of so many Guns ?

The real litmus test, is how many concealed carry permits are out there, this is more indicative of how many "Serious" or so called "hard core" gun owners are out there.

I am stating this as my own opinion, I am not stating any of this as fact.

I fully support the right of everyone who can legally own a gun to have more guns than me.

I'm by no definition 'hard core', but I own more than one.

One in the bedroom doesn't do much good if you are in the living room. ;)

I don't own 17 guns, but I'm not counting my guns for anybody. That makes any survey or poll useless. I can't be the only one who won't enumerate their guns for the public.

I don't carry one room to room. The holster is for when I'm out and about. ;)

    No offense taken.

There's firearms that have been around for 100,150,200,250+ years.

Not only that, prior to 1968 and the Gun Control act of 1968, it was perfectly legal to purchase firearms Mail Order, no Registration required, etc......

There is no way to ever really or accurately know, how many guns were sold in the years from 1870 to 1968, or how many of those guns, still exist in personal and private collections, not even including War trophies.

.303 Lee-Enfield, No. 4, MK I. It's one of my few guns expressly made for killing people, and that has had a possibility of having done so.

I would be surprised if such antique guns have ever been used by super-predator gangsters in their day to day acts of thuggery here in the US. They are too long to haul into 7-11's and can't be quickly moved around inside of cars to do drive-bys against cops or rival gang members.

Well, in hindsight, I realized I didn't want to reveal as much about firearms that I own. Just a bit of opsec.

Nobody except me knows how many guns i have,or don't have. The government has no business knowing how many guns any legal gun owner has.
