Political correctness created safe spaces where free speech is not allowed. Try again.

Like Twitter, in the manner the president elect uses it, as a place where he can say what he likes and pretend counter points do not exist?

If people want to burn the flag in their own home or on their own property, fine, go for it. But when they burn anything in a way that impedes traffic or endangers the public, lock 'em up.

If you will notice that the first vote in 1989 went 5-4, the second vote went 7-3. If every Justice that is currently thinking about stepping down does, then Trump could fill the SCOTUS with Judges that agree with him. Then a vote could end up 5-4 in favor of protecting the Flag. But there are a lot of hurdles between here and there. First, he would need the justices. I personally don't think that he can find that many justices that would vote to curtail the right to free speech. Second, he would need the Congress to pass a "Protect our Flag law", Not as easy as he might think. Then they would actually have to arrest someone for burning the flag. A prosecutor would have to be willing to take the case to court, and a judge would have to allow the case to proceed. Then if you can get a jury willing to vote for conviction, you can have something that can make it to the courts. The Defense Attorney would have to appeal the ruling, and the Appeal Court must rule the law unconstitutional. Then the Administration has to go venue shopping to find a appeal court that will agree to reinstate the jury decision. Again, may no be as easy as he might think. Then, and only then would it make it to the SCOTUS. Frankly, I think his chances of pulling that off is about 1 in 1000. I also believe that he knows that it would be impossible.

So, why would he issue the Tweet? To divert Attention away from who is riding his elevator every day? To give the press something to whine about and allow him to pick his cabinet with everyone in the country looking over his shoulder every micro-second. I personally, can not remember so much coverage or speculation on potential nominees in the past. Sure there were some, but not to the extent of ignoring everything else 24/7 like this. Believe it or not, there are other things going on in this world. MOD EDIT>>>RULE 3<<<

Trump spoke his mind. He isn't trying to push for making it law. He is staring his opinion. I fully agree. I hope anyone who burns the flag accidentally sets themselves on fire too. Doesn't mean I would push for a law to limit freedom of speech. People who burn the flag are idiotic, selfish, ungrateful, confused little (*)(*)(*)(*)s that deserve to be thrown in a wood chipper, but it's their right to act that way, and trump's right to voice his utter disgust for them.

Uh... no. As offensive as I find it, YOU should be able to do anything you want with YOUR property. Now, if you burn MY flag, then we'll have a problem. Also, remember all relevant burning ordinances are in effect; make sure you get a burning permit, etc.

I can agree with your descriptors of a flag burner. I don't agree with burning a flag, but I also don't agree with removing that part of free speech.

I may not like it, but I will defend their right to do it.

As intolerant as Trump for wanting the government to strip the citizenship from people who engage in speech he doesn't like?

How is he not engaging in political correctness using your definition of the term? Or are you a hypocrite you won't apply the same standard to Trump?

Trump stated his opinion just as obama has stated his opinion on cops. I agree with Trump and not obama and most Americans are with Trump too or should I say President Trump.

Then I, and many millions of my fellow Americans, should all be serving life sentences.

I fly the flag above my house and I live in a very windy area. I'm lucky if a flag lasts a year. When it has served it's purpose and can no longer be displayed properly, it is removed, folded, dropped in the fire pit, doused with lighter fluid, and set on fire.

I've done this twice a year for more than twenty years.

    Come get me.

It sounds like you used the correct way to dispose of a worn out or messed up flag.

Well, that would certainly bring our laws into line with Finland, France, Germany and many many other countries. The Flag Desecration Amendment has passed every House from the 104th to the 109th and only failed the Senate by a single vote last time. I wonder if they flip coins to decide who will be the one shy vote.

I have mixed feelings about it, while I hate flag burning, I wouldn't prohibit it. I think its better that these folks publicly identify themselves, than that they be driven underground.

Lol, big difference between properly disposing of a flag and destroying it in protest.

No, we aren't, since the majority didn't vote for him at all.

Trump is a dangerous demagogue. I agree with pieces of his policy, but this rhetoric and threats to our rights need to be outright condemned by EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTS OUR REPUBLIC.

Trump is acting like a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing moron.

Exactly. Now, if I do that while reciting The Satanic Verses and cursing Trump, would I deserve to have my citizenship stripped from me?

There isn't nearly as big a difference as you'd like to make of it.

Never said I'd change the Constitution and neither did Trump, just voicing our feelings on flag desecration which is a feeling your average liberal can't grasp.

Well if you've read my opinion on the matter, no. I wouldn't claim you were disposing of it properly at that point, though.

So you advocate for laws you know to be unconstitutional just they make you feel better?

Don't you guys jump down Progressives throats for doing the exact same thing?

The supremes classified flag burning as free speech so it's not about the Constitution it's about a court ruling and if Trump gets to appoint two or three new judges he and myself might get our wish

They did it twice. It's a done deal. The Constitution protects flag burning as free speech. Period.

You missed the point of this all entirely! I would suggest actually reading the background on this issue.
