Yes, we get that. Most folk are good and kind and only need to spend a small amount of time with 'the other' to realise we're all human etc. But this isn't simply a matter of small town white people feeling uncomfortable when talking to someone with black hair and an accent (that's the stuff which is easily fixed), this is a pervading unease based on past history and known issues.

 

I think a lot of people on this forum who constantly fear monger Muslims are old white people who've never seen the world, they've lived in small towns with predominately white populations. It skews their bias. They've an unrealistic view of the world. Where they are from its usually white people that are the criminals and yet they aren't afraid of their own race.

 

it's bog ordinary people, who inexplicably think they're interesting enough to warrant sharing themselves with the world. probably didn't get enough attention as kids. there is no rhyme or reason to popularity in YT land.

there are exceptions, of course. one very good example of someone who has really earned the millions of subscribers he has, is known as "Primitive Technology". he's never said a word, and no one knows who he is. utterly magical stuff. he makes bear grylls look like a fluffy kitten.

 

Since you weren't there, you are speaking out of ignorance. Those who were there considered this mans actions to be disruptive and were uncomfortable. The person in question has a history of gaining attention through stunts. Should the captain have forced several people to feel uncomfortable to appease one person?

I don't know that many old white people, but of those I do, the only ones who have weird ideas about Muslims are Christian. I don't know if their religion is the reason (maybe their Pastor incites fear?), but it's worth noting.

My observations (from inside the migrant/non-white/muslim-familiar bubble) is that those who are the most ignorant of the culture (of islam) are white hipsters with minimal exposure to same. They tend to be inner city dwellers, and have very little opportunity to spend time around ordinary muslim families - who almost all live in the suburbs. Hipsters hate the suburbs, so never cross paths with the real deal. They are as clueless as the oldies, in my experience.

 

I remember that story. Turned out she had no qualification ID on her to present. Are you saying you'd be happy for airline staff to allow anyone who claimed to be a doctor treat your child/family member/self? Or would you prefer that they verify qualifications first?

It's true. If you're white you're more likely to be violated criminally by another white person. But instead white people are afraid of anyone with a different skin colour.
