    For nearly two centuries now snus has been the most popular form of tobacco in Sweden and for some unexplained reason, the product has been outlawed in every other country and EU even want to outlaw snus completely, all to ensure the cigarette industry can keep hold of their monopoly.

    The product is a very old cultural product of Sweden that holds no real health risks and despite this is being actively opposed by various organisations and lobbyists. Some Swedish politicians even look to ban flavoured snus and want to change the layout of the packages, banning the labels and etiquettes because...no reason at all. Recently the warning-label was changed from "this product might be addictive and might have negative effects on your health" to "[...] is addicative and has [. ]"

    The hypocrisy is disgusting.

    Snus is considered a luxury in Sweden and often a bride's father will present her betrothed with a large amount of it as a dowery.

    It is a really good one for that price, certainly. However, I prefer Göteborgs XR, but then you have to be prepared to pay a little more.

    Not exactly. Basically it is just a bag of tobacco you put under your lip and just let it rest there.

    The history behind this fantastic product is a very nice one. Columbus had seen some Amerindians sniff some weird powder-esque substance, he later discovered this was "powderized" tobacco, he brought it to Europe and, apparently, it cured a migrane the Spanish princess (or something) had been suffering from for several months.

    Soon the whole aristocracy of Europe were snorting that crap. The trend and the tobacco-plant eventually reached Sweden. Obviously the climate here was not ideal for harvesting tobacco, the farmers then came up with a brilliant idea - you can optimise the poor harvest by mixing it out with water, creating a goo which you then put under your lip for a more long-lasting effect.

    Unlike the snorting version, this new discovery gave you a nice nicotine rush and it caught on really well within the working-class. Later they put a little flavour to it by adding salt and other herbs.

    Some nutsacks still shove up that old-school powder under their lip :)puke:), I prefer the "bags". I am not sure exactly how snus differs from chewing tobacco, they are quite similar but there is some difference somwhere. I think. :p

    Sorry for late response lol.

    Actually there is very little proof that snus would cause mouth cancer or any other damages on health. At most, one might get a heart attack from the nicotine lol. Sweden has the lowest number of tobacco related health problems in the whole EU, possibly because Swedes prefer snus over cigarettes.

    What snus does however is damaging your gums, but if you quit the snus the gums will heal. Unlike ciggies that cause permanent damage on your lungs.

    The government recently released a health report about the risks of "snusing" stating something like "From a tobacco-political point of view, snus is dangerous as hell." Lolz "tobacco-political point of view", it is like they've already decided it is bad before even doing any research; "it is not really bad, but we say it is bad anyways." Probably this gives them reason to put even more taxes on the product. :no:

    Obviously it is not healthy to use this crap, best one can do is stay clean. But truth is that current research cannot point out any real health risks with snus.

    I think I have a nice level of nicotine-resistence; I can use snus for a few weeks and then I can stop and not even touch it for months without any withdrawal symptomes. The devil cannot beat me on this one. :grin:

    It sounds like chewing tobacco, and it is a fact that chewing tobacco causes mouth cancer, gum cancer, loss of teeth, yellowing and brown staining of teeth, throat cancer, etc.

    So it may be safer but still you are probably better off not doing it at all. Right? :)

    Well, this is an excerpt from the Mayo link . . .

    Snus. Snus (pronounced snoos) is a newer smokeless, spitless tobacco product that originated in Sweden. It's similar to snuff but is pasteurized during the manufacturing process to kill bacteria that can produce cancer-causing chemicals, and it must be kept refrigerated up to the point of sale. It comes in a pouch that's placed between your upper lip and gum. The snus sold in Sweden seems to have a lower risk of certain cancers, but the snus sold in the U.S. is not manufactured with the same regulations as the Swedish product.

    Swedish Health Department writes;
    The damages caused are mostly temporary that will heal if you quit stuffing your mouth. The "might-part" does not really say how high the risk is or how frequently one have to use snus to reach that level of damage.

    The report states it is not beneficial to snus when pregnant (well duuuh, ut is nicotine and god knows what chemicals in it.)

    :D

    Yeah, just lump everything together there. :)

    The Norwegian study concluded that;
    That is literally more than 100 bags shoved under your lip a day since one pack contains 24 bags. Nobody can possibly snus that much, if somebody does ut still indicates it is not really that dangerous of a product. I bet 5 bags of Skittles a day would give you diabetes and screw your teeth too and we don't see warning-labels on candy bags, do we? :)

    Okay...

    Exactly! :D

    For certain. I do not even use it on a regular basis, I am far from being addicted. I just think it is disgusting how government and the EU tries to kill this product by banning it without even having any real scientific proof of it being dangerous!

    Recently they changed the labels, completely out of the blue, from "this product might hurt your health" to "this product does hurt your health". The Health Minister wants to ban flavoured snus and even wants the table of content removed from the packs (lol wtf?). They even want to change the size of the packs (because f- it) and writing laws that say the packs have to be plain, no text, no logos, no nothing (because f- it).

    Meanwhile the EU are completely quiet about cigs, prolly because top members France still earn loads of cash from tobacco plants in their former African colonies. :rant:

    It is banned all over EU, only available in Sweden. It is a unique historic and cultural product that must be preserved! :p

    Mhmmmm. :nod:

    I can agree that the government is hypocritical when it comes to banning certain items and allowing others. Cigarettes are heavily taxed here. I think almost half the price is taxes.

    I suppose cigarette-packs in the US nowadays too have these pictures of rotten lungs and other gross stuff on them, yes? They want to do the same with snus but there simply is nothing they can put there because science is yet to prove it rots your teeth, your intestinals etc. If they want to scare people away from snus there is, however, one picture to put on there - a oicture of the Health Minister. Now that would surely work.

    There's quite no person on Earth who hates fun and freedom of choice as much as him. A few of the things he has suggested over the years are;
    - Ban menthol-flavoured cigarettes
    - Ban flavoured snus/remove logos and table of content from bags
    - Ban online alcohol shopping
    - Ban people from smoking outside (no joke, he suggested this)
    - Ban people under 18 from using tanning salons.
    - Restrict individual salt and sugar consumption
    - All offices should have tables by which you stand instead of sit (okay, sitting is bad but most offices already have tables which you can lower and raise. Forcing everyone to stand is just sick though lol)

    Now if that is not a scary person, I don't know what is. :roflol:

    Lös och portion snus är välkommen i Sverige för alltid. Även i Norge. Och i Finlands båten.

    I Danmark vet jag inte om de har snus. Men det är en nordisk pryl.

    Loose and snus are welcome in Sweden forever. Even in Norway. And in the Finnish boat.

    In Denmark, I do not know if they've snuff. But there is a Nordic thing.

    In Google translation's. From Swedish to English.
