Trump said he would self-fund his campaign. Well, let's look at the facts: Trump raised $247 million for his campaign. $56 million was from Trump himself, which leaves say $190 million from other donors. $75 million was raised for outside PACs for his benefit. This includes tens of millions of dollars donated to his campaign by folks he has just happened to nominate for White House positions. So already, Trump is doing favors for those who gave him money. Who are some of his biggest donors? Linda McMahon $6,000,000 Irving Moskowitz Foundation $1,000,000
Hillary raised over a billion. (And you can bet she didn't spend a dime of her own money) Is she somehow not "owned" by her donors? Big banks paid her millions to attend speeches. But few people bothered to attend her free ones. Makes you scratch your head and go, "Hmmmm??????" I don't know if Trump is owned by his donors. But one thing is sure: Tump is "owning" the competition.
trump won, Hillary lost. so now Trump is owned by his donors and that's why he is giving his donors big favors
If Hillary had won would you be expressing these concerns? No of course not. Just the opposite I'm sure. What exactly does that say about this thread and all the others like it? Elections have consequences. You can learn to live with it or not. So far your not doing well.
Looks like Ford, Carrier, Black & Decker (and others) aren't on the list of donors who "own" him does it?
the difference is Trump said he would fund his own campaign, didn't need any donations, and that he would be independent and not owned by his donors. and now we have Linda McMahon.
Darn it! I missed my chance. I didn't donate but now I wish I had. I could have had a job in the White House or maybe been appointed ambassador to Ukraine. So Ronstar, do you think it's unusual for a president to be owned by his donors? Clinton had many many more donors. Edit p.s. You have no proof he's owned. Only that he took the donations and returned the favor. Returning a favor isn't the same as being owned. I return favors all the time to friends but that doesn't mean they own me.
The more important question is whether or not the Clinton Foundation will be refunding that 1 billion dollar front.
Yep, you got him this time. Trump is owned by his donors.... the American people who donated to his campaign.
and yet his biggest donors are getting the biggest favors. hell, they even offered a candlelight dinner with Trump if they donated $1 million or more to his inauguration.
Unlike many of Obama's appointees who were academics with no real-world experience, Linda has been a highly successful business person. Besides........look at the bright side.........she might be able to get Trump in the ring again..... (the real fun starts at 0:55) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NsrwH9I9vE
And yet the overwhelming majority of his donations $360 mln were small donations made by millions of regular hard working American people. Trump is owned by the american people, your typical "all or nothing" logical fallacy notwithstanding.
I don't see an issue with that. If I donated a lot of money to Trump or Clinton then I'd hope they'd give me a favor in return. This doesn't mean I'd own them, only that I'd expect a favor. You don't own a person unless you can make that person do things they don't want to do. I have a hard time imagining Trump do anything he doesn't want to do. If you gave Trump money and then made a demand he didn't like, well, you'd be screwed. He'd just laugh at you and tweet insults at you. Trump has many faults. Being someone's lackey isn't one of them.
Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders, who didn't even make it to the nomination, took in more than twice as many individual donations. But since the GOP helps the rich and not the middle class or poor, I guess trump's number is some sort of an accomplisgment. I guess.
Word is that Mr. Trump is also pretty much broke beyond loans but, we will never even know. http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/295072-trump-policy-staffers-quit-after-not-being-paid
The comparison with Sanders is apt. The republicans went with the man representing the working people... too bad the democrats chose a corrupt, power-hungry embodiment of the establishment, the ruling class and special interests as their standard bearer.
tell that to all the working people that he REFUSES to pay for all their hard work on his projects tell that to all the working people that he REFUSES to give a minimum wage increase. tell that to all the working Americans that Trump refuses to hire, and instead brings in foreign laborers.
