You don't speak for America any more than I alone do.

Incidentally, anyone who hated Russians during the cold war was a small-minded sheep.

I have spent the most of my life in California. From end to end and side to side, I have seen much of the state, but not all of it.

I do not like the politics of today. We had an excellent governor called Pete Wilson and we also had George Deukmejian also a fine Governor. Gray Davis was a poor governor. When he was recalled from office, Arnold got elected.

If by AJC you mean the airport, I was actually talking of the closest to Hollywood, LAX.

Haha. What part of almost every state government opposed housing Syrian refugees did you miss? What part of the US always sides with Israel did you not understand?
Americans hated Russians during the Cold War because Russia was a threat. It was a very intense arms war. I was a child in the 80's and in 2nd grade I knew Russia was the enemy. I imagine Anne Frank knew and hated her threat and enemy.
By the way, the US is a Republic, not a Democracy.
The most amazing country on earth. Gawd, I am profoundly thankful to have been born here.

You mentioned the Atlanta paper. That would be the AJC or Atlanta Journal and Constitution.
I cannot express how grateful I am to be a southern American. I cannot even fathom wanting to be anything else.
As for California, one day I want to drive down the west coast which is very different from my east coast. There's a song that says it never rains in southern California.... I can tell you it snows from October to May in Colorado. The most beautiful place I have ever laid eyes on. But after nine months there, I found out how much I love Georgia and how much I love my home.

I think in Southern California they are getting some floods. North of me, north of San Francisco, it has rained a lot.

I have been into Colorado. We agree it is very pretty. It is a fairly rural area despite Denver. In California, our Sierra Nevada mountains top the Rockies. For a wide variety of reasons. Still the Rockies are awesome. CA could probably be 3 states to make clear differences. Forests from the Oregon border south to some miles north of San Francisco. When I say trees, I mean enormous trees. Trees back east only make decent branches for the redwood. The Sequia tree, a type of redwood is just thick. I walked on a cut down Sequia about 35 feet to cross the trunk. Redwoods around the Coast never get that huge, though the redwoods can be 150 feet taller.

Parts of CA snow from October and you get snow into May. The Rockies going through Wyoming are beautiful and Yellowstone Park is a beauty only with rather small trees. They are called lodgepole pines because they are very thin trunks.

That paper of Atlanta, sorry but that was 55 years back and I can't recall reading it all the time. We did not have TV to watch at the time so there is a chance it was printed in Columbus, GA also. I wish I could recall.

As a Georgia girl for 35 years my concept of mountains were the Smokies which are lush and green and beautiful. Seeing the snowcapped Rockies absolutely took my breath away. Colorado's landscape is VERY different from Georgia. Colorado also has a very arid climate and for a southern girl that has always lived in a humid climate, it is hell on your sinuses and skin. I flew into Denver but lived in Carbondale, CO from October until May. It never rained. Not once. Colorado precipitation is very different from Ga. When we have freezing temps they are borderline so our snow warms up, melts a little, then turns to ice at night. Colorado has powder, not black ice. Mount Sopris was probably one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Colorado is MUCH more sparsely populated than mrtro Atlanta. I drove into Utah's deserts with the Rockies brhind me. Unbelievable. As majestic as it all was, 9 months away from Georgia made me realize how much I love it.
When I got back I played Georgia by Ray Charles over and over. There are many places I'd like to see in my life. But there is no other place I would ever want to live.

You know Kode, I sat over here on the other side of the world, fingers crossed and cheering on all those ordinary Americans who put their hands in their pocket to finance Sanders run, and at the same time, I was terrified he'd get in and the plutocracy would crush him and that would crush all those Americans- especially the Millennials. And you wouldn't have been told he was repeatedly blocked by his own party, you'd have been told he was an ineffectual, imcompetent President.

The American people have been promised so much and been given so little for decades of administrations now.

Whoa there, Xanzia! Nearly 100% of the white working class? You're dead right about the psychology, but blaming the class that got left behind for their rage and fear will just create more rage and fear and divide the people further. And who do you think the white working class will vent on first? The rest of the working class and the poor. People punch down, not up.

I was a country boy in the 80s and never gave Russia a thought. See, without media or paranoid peers telling me to hate and fear Russia, I never had a reason to.

I have seen many places in the East as well as the Ozarks and what they call mountains, we in california call hills. I have hills almost in walking distance that are as high as most of the mountains back east. The eastern hills are more attractive for sure.

That said, what I recall in Georgia was the humid conditions. I expected to run into that in Florida and Hawaii too yet did not. It was summer in Georgia but spring in the other places. Hawaii seldom gets over 90 degrees i believe and next to the ocean gets those breezes. Much of CA is not highly populated. We get our population mostly from Los Angeles and the SF Bay Area must have 9 or more million population so it is busy, but not like Los Angeles. Even the state capitol is not more than a half million people. However Sacramento has outlying towns that though not heavily populated, all in all add up. Utah is almost entirely desert but of course has plenty of trees in their mountains.

I can't deal well with high humidity of your area. At least in 1962 it was troubling.

Still enjoy your story and appreciate your comments.

Haha. Ok. Never saw Red Dawn, huh?
Any American child in elementary school in the 80's knew Russians were the bad guys.
It was like the Challenger or Cosby Show.

Ha. I had a look at that much later. Utterly ridiculous. Taking that movie seriously would be like taking Capricorn One seriously :p

You have argued that it only matters if it is legal. That it doesn't matter if it is right or wrong, only that it is legal. I was only pointing out that legality is not always the only issue when it comes to Presidential orders or even laws passed by federal and state legislatures.

Do I think Trump will invade Mexico? Of course not. I was trying to prove a point. That said, he is being very aggressive, and he seems bent on destroying ISIS. Sending combat troops to the Middle East to accomplish that would be a serious mistake. So, he might not invade Mexico, but he might invade Syria, the ISIS stronghold.

I think it is important to know when and how often our President lies to us. I will accept your excuse for evading the issue.

Attacking ISIS would be a serious mistake. It would be like attacking a lion in its den. For over fifteen years we have been trying to eradicate Islamic extremism in Afghanistan and the Middle East. If anything, ISIS, AQ, and the Taliban are stronger now than fifteen years ago.

It has never been possible for the at one time Soviet Union or Russia to invade North America even if they crossed the Bering Strait like in the fantasy movie Red Dawn.

The Soviet Union and Russia now days both have and had determined an invasion of North America to be impossible.

We can eradicate the ISIS but to do it will take leadership and a proper plan which we have.

Mattis is a good general and, as SecDef, he controls the Pentagon. In the Pentagon there is plenty of support for the supposition that Islamic terrorism is a problem that does not have a military solution. As an example, former Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno once told CBS This Morning that sending as many as 150,000 troops to Iraq to crush ISIS would only end in futility without long-term cooperation from the Iraqi government. Odierno is particularly qualified to discuss the prospect of success and failure in Iraq, given that he’s spent six years in the region. For two of those years, from 2008 to 2010, he served as head of all foreign troops.

“I could put 150,000 soldiers on the ground and defeat ISIS? Yes. But then what?” he added. “A year later it would be right back to where we are today.”

No Islamic terrorist group has ever been destroyed by military force. Why? They are guerilla fighters. They will not stand and fight to hold ground. The have no capital, no state to defend. They meld into the populace. They move from place to place. Eventually, Mosul and Raqqa will be taken. That will not destroy ISIS. It will only be a setback from which they will recover. That has been the history of Islamic terrorist organizations during the entire course of modern history.

In addition, sending American combat troops to the Middle East is exactly what the enemy wants. They wish to kill the soldiers of the Great Satan. It worked in Iraq where nearly 5,000 Americans were killed. It can work again. They will be waiting.

I believe for these reasons Mattis will be somewhat ambivalent to Trump's orders to come up with a plan to defeat ISIS. Hopefully, he will make Trump see the light.

Only Islamic nations can destroy Islamic terrorist organizations. As long as Western nations are attempting to do that for them, Islamic nations won't even try although Islamic extremism kills more Muslims than any other ethnicity.

You three (Robert and GeorgiaAmy included) can't bear to talk about Trump and his policies and lying that is splitting our country apart. You three just wish it to go away. Well, it isn't and I am here to remind you.

It galls me to read that one military force can't defeat other military forces. ISIS thinks it owns the ME

This is pure Democratic party loser talk.

Has it occurred to you that your words will not remove Trump? Has it occurred to you that we all have 4 years to endure this constant hate trump talk?

We try to show that things are not as different during Trump as you pretend they are. Your sole mission in life today on this topic is to run Trump down.
