A carbon pool of this size could emit dangerous carbon that could have a direct effect on humanity as we know it
    BY MARGI MURPHY

    14th February 2017, 5:48 pm

SCIENTISTS have discovered a colossal pool of molten carbon stretching 1.8million square kilometres under the United States.

The grim find is a warning to humanity that the planet could easily spark climate chaos without the help of humans.

    [IMG]ALAMY

A molten carbon reservoir under the Earth’s surface has startled scientists Geologists at Royal Holloway, University of London’s Department of Earth Sciences found the melting region – which is just 350km below Earth’s surface – using a huge network of 583 seismic sensors that measure Earth’s vibrations, to create a picture of the area’s deep sub surface.

They were shocked to discover a massive reservoir under western US.

Scientists believe that if any of this carbon was to be emitted into the atmosphere it could have grave consequences for the environment.

“We might not think of the deep structure of Earth as linked to climate change above us, but this discovery not only has implications for subterranean mapping but also for our future atmosphere,” concluded Dr Hier-Majumder, “For example, releasing only one percent of this CO[SUB]2[/SUB] into the atmosphere will be the equivalent of burning 2.3 trillion barrels of oil.

“The existence of such deep reservoirs show how important is the role of deep Earth in the global carbon cycle.”

Liberals would normally blame too much molten carbon on Bush but a lot of millennials don't remember George that well. It's better if they blame it on Trump now and get on with the plan.

So, you post this article, which one would think that you are using to warn of possible climate problem's down the road, but then you decry the article as a blase attempt to grab more of people's money.

Do you think the article is lying about the deposit?

Do you think that if the deposit exists, it is not a theater and is something we can ignore?

To me, this article shows just how silly the left-wing "global warming" issue really is. We're told that a climate disaster will befall us if we don't cripple our capitalist system and scale back our standard of living, yet we have natural events like volcanoes and ocean vents that outproduce our CO2 output without even trying.

How do progressives plan to deal with these natural, Mother Earth related CO2 threats? Tax them? Shame them on social media? Parody them on SNL? I don't think any of their usual tactics are going to be effective.

Does this kind of thing exist on other planets like ours too? Is it the norm? if it doesn't and isn't....ummm...what pray tell can man possibly do about it??

Oh noes its only 350km below the surface.

WE MUST STOP GARDENING WE COULD HIT THE VEIN OF CARBON.

    We're doomed.

    350km below the surface?

That kind of depth is billions of years old, and besides, no one knows for certain whats down there- one can only take inferences from seismic data, which data would be most unreliable for that kind of distance.

A "deep" earthquake has a hypocentre at about 60km.
Most volcanoes source magma from 20 km

350km? Forget about it. Its not going anywhere, ever....

the cool part is God says he wont let man finish off ourselves,
It will be when he is ready, but maybe the signs are there

Timothy 3:1-5 “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.

Previously a jet of molten iron was discovered between Russia and the West; it is believed to be responsible for the earth's magnetic polar shifts:

    DAILY NEWS 19 December 2016
Molten iron river discovered speeding beneath Russia and Canada
    ...
“If we can understand how the field is generated, we understand how it changes over time and whether and when it will weaken and reverse,” says Livermore.

Other geophysicists agree. “The more we understand the core’s behaviour at various time and spatial scales, the more we can hope to understand the beginnings, renewal and future of our magnetic field,” says William Brown of the British Geological Survey’s geomagnetism team.

Earth’s magnetic field seems to have been weakening, especially since around 1840, at about 5 per cent per century. The magma stream should help geophysicists predict more accurately if and when the magnetic field of the planet’s core will flip, and the magnetic north and south poles trade places, which happens every few hundred thousand years."

Quick, file a restraining order against the lake of boiling carbon.

If you could get the mineral rights to it you would become super rich when it turns into oil.

Yeah, this isn't even remotely the same as climate change debates. That type of thing can be directly influenced by mankind's pollution. A reservoir of magma in the mantle of the Earth is going to do whatever it's going to do regardless of how much pollution we cause.

Honestly, this is borderline satire to suggest this discovery has anything to do with those folks who support reducing mankind's fossil fuel use and pollution output.

Its carbon (carbonate actually), not hydrocarbon. Its like a salt lake. Pretty useless. No stored energy

There are over 7 billion people infesting this planet. Nothing wrong with a little extermination.

Or annihilation. The human race is nothing but a primitive disease.

    OP

Don't worry about it - it's just the 'scientists' way of asking for more 'research funding'. Space 'scientists' do it all the time.

That's because there have been no world wars lately? World wars are nature's way of heading off over-population. With what's going on these days, and the hysteria about 'Russian aggression' (or 'resurgence' as the BBC would have it [IMG] ) hold that thought?
